INTRODUCING THE NEW EDITOR Hello to all the members and friends of WWVVMC. I am your new editor for the next little while.

My name is Sue Kelly, and Craig, my husband and I, are relatively new members in the club, this being our third year here. So, I feel that I will need a bit of help with gathering information and finding appropriate things for the magazine. I don’t have a car background and I am not mechanically minded so if you have something that you want to share with everyone, please don’t hesitate to email me something – [email protected], or give me a call on 0428 616 921.

Stuart Le Lievre, who is the past editor, has done a great job in filling the pages with interesting, useful and funny articles and I hope I am able to keep things rolling along. I don’t know all the members in the club so please make yourself known to me. Stu will be contributing a page every month to help make sure that we still have lots of things to interest many of our members, and help me out when material is light on.

The Editor I understand is supposed to proof read and collate the content, so please, please, please give me lots of things to put in. I will struggle for a little while so if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Rather than having a separate Ladies Page I might incorporate anything that I find interesting into the general magazine. I would like some feedback if this doesn’t suit.

The software that I am using to produce the magazine is slightly different to what has been used in the past because my machine won’t run the software, so things might look a little different. I will do my best to keep the feel of the magazine as it has been and I apologise in advance if it’s not quite as you expect.

Wish me luck and I look forward to keeping up the tradition of producing a magazine that you look forward to receiving each month.

PS The information given to me this month has been outstanding and I have had to hold over many jokes and funny’s until a later magazine. Thanks so much.

Regards

Sue Kelly

Rego Day 2016 Don’t forget rego day this year! Sunday 23rd October, 8.30am. In case of wet weather alternate arrangements have been made to go to Robs shed, and details will be published in the October magazine.

Please make sure your RMS log book is in your vehicle (used or not). Log books must always be in your vehicle. No excuses!! Printed copies of the club run log book will be available on this day. Or they are available to download from the club web site.

This morning I was sitting on a bench next to a homeless man, I asked him how he ended up this way. He said: “Up until last week, I still had it all! I had a roof over my head, a cook, my clothes were washed and pressed, I had TV, I had Internet, I went to the gym, the pool, the library, school if I wanted to…”. I asked him, “What happened? Drugs? Alcohol? Divorce??? “Oh no, nothing like that” he said. No, no … I got out of prison.”

MID WEEK RUN At our Mid Week Run on Wednesday 17 August, we presented our donation from gate takings at the 2016 Rally, to the Volunteer Rescue Association.

This donation recognises the valuable work the VRA does for the public during emergences, and its help with car parking at our June Rally on Sunday.

Bob and Julie on behalf of our Club presented the cheque. Ray Willett and Tim Lidden from the VRA gratefully received the donation.

The donated funds will go towards fitting out one of their emergency trucks.

After the presentation of the June Rally charity money to the VRA we went for a drive up to Mitchelmore St to visit the orchid and garden display of Mr John Daws. John also had a large collection of historic spark plugs and motor cycles. It was a very interesting visit some of the orchids were of very pretty colours and in good bloom. I would like to have seen some of the vehicles that the spark plugs would have fitted, that would have been interesting too.

After the visit we proceeded down to the South Wagga Bakery for the usual afternoon tea and chit chat. I apologise to those who attended because I didn’t get the list of names but thank you very much for attending. Until next time Regards Ray T

Donald Trump goes on a fact-finding visit to Israel. While he is on a tour of Jerusalem he suffers a heart attack and dies.

The undertaker tells the American diplomats accompanying him, 'You can have him shipped home for $50,000, or you can bury him here, in the Holy Land for just $100.'

The American diplomats go into a corner to discuss for a few minutes. They return with their answer to the undertaker and tell him they want Donald Trump shipped home.

The undertaker is puzzled and asks, 'Why would you spend $50,000 to ship him home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only $100?

The American diplomats reply, 'Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead.

We just can't take the risk. Contributed

VISIT TO TARCUTTA On Sunday 21st August we headed off for a nice drive out to the Tarcutta pub for lunch. We had an informal morning tea before driving out along the highway and down Mates Gully Road. We were a bit early for lunch so headed off to the Men’s shed to see what the local men and women are building and the AW6 engine in the process of being restored.

David Campbell allowed us into his shed where we had a look at his restorations in progress – a really nice day out. Thanks to all who participated.

CLUB RUN LOG BOOK ON THE WEB SITE Most members have opted for a log book under the RMS two year trial arrangements. This means that at any time, your log book can be scrutinised by the RMS or Police and hefty fines apply for failure to comply with requirements.

Number plate recognition technology now allows vehicle use to be monitored and resulting data bases can be compared with log books.

It therefore follows that a driver needs to be able to distinguish between a club run and a log book run for a greater period of time than we are accustomed to. For club runs, drivers are currently expected to carry a current club magazine so as to be able to prove that a vehicle is on an approved run at that time of being pulled over. The use of a Club Log Book is not intended to replace carrying the Club magazine.

At Southern Motoring Association meetings, the RMS favoured the use of a diary so that an extended record of club runs was documented.

The September general meeting favoured the use of a Club Run Log Book, being a single page with same format as the RMS Log Book. This document is now available from the Club’s website, Members section, or by hard copy at the

clubrooms. Use is optional, but it was considered that if you use one or the other at all times, you are less likely to forget to fill out the RMS log book.

The above arrangement is possibly overkill. To the author’s knowledge, no member has ever been pulled over by the Police or RMS in NSW for the purpose of validating a run. However, in the event of an accident, circumstances could be different. How would a smart lawyer or coroner act? The stories we do hear tend to come from Victoria, but we also like to cross the border, don’t we.

The September meeting also considered the maintenance run which has always been undertaken under the conditional registration scheme. The RMS has indicated a preference for maintenance runs to be completed as a log book entry. This seems reasonable as we have been granted 60 days for free (but free for how long?). The alternative is to contact the Events Director and log a maintenance run with him.

Contributed by XEd.

These Club Run log book sheets will be available on Registration day.

THE PERFECT HUSBAND Several men are in the locker room of the golf club.

A cellular phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to talk.

Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: "Hello"

WOMAN: "Hi Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"

MAN: "Yes."

WOMAN: "I'm at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat.

It's only $2,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"

MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much."

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models.

I saw one I really liked."

MAN: "How much?"

WOMAN: "$90,000."

MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."

WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing... I was just talking to Janie and found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $980,000 for it."

MAN: "Well, then go ahead and make an offer of $900,000. They'll probably take it. If not, we can go the extra eighty-thousand if it's what you really want."

WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!"

MAN: "Bye! I love you, too." The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide open.

He turns and asks, "Anyone know who's phone this is?"

CELEBRATIONS PLANNED FOR OUR 50TH YEAR 2017

We welcome ALL members to contribute ideas and participate in this committee so please feel free to put forward your ideas at the October General meeting. We are looking forward to a special 2017.

ROB’S SOCIAL DAY This was a monster social day.

The group started off at the Riverina Regional Archives to do a bit of investigating in the old Daily Advertisers, searching for early WWVVMC meeting dates and information. Some got a bit side tracked with the old adds and articles of the late 60’s…

But some relevant information was found and photographed before heading off to the Coffee Niche for a coffee. The Archives is a very interesting place and is open to the public from 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, College Avenue, Turvey Park.

It was then time to head off to Rob’s where he was promising a “reveal” which had been 28 years in the making!!!!

Craig then did a brief demo on buffing a car, with Stu’s Fairlane as the demonstration model. Hopefully members who want to have a go at buffing their own cars may be able to do it at one of the up and coming social days at Robs.

Talk to Craig at the next meeting to see what you need to bring.

Alldays & Onions Shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Alldays & Onions was an English automobile maker which manufactured cars from 1898 to 1918. The cars were sold under the Alldays name. The company also built an early British built tractor, the Alldays General Purpose Tractor.

History

The Alldays & Onions Pneumatic Engineering Co. of Birmingham, was a company founded in 1889 by the merger of the long established Onions (formed by John Onions in 1650) and William Allday & Co. (formed by William Allday in 1720) engineering companies. They became known for their engineering and blacksmithing equipment. Like many such companies at the time they turned to bicycle manufacture and sold a range under the Alldays name. They also started making motorcycles in 1903 under the Alldays-Matchless name; these had no connection with the London-based Matchless company, and in 1915 presumably following representations from them, the name was changed to Allon. Manufacture of these continued until 1927.

In 1898, the company produced its first car, the Traveller, a quadricycle made in private and commercial forms, steered by a wheel. It had an unsprung rear end, power generated by a

7 hp model. Larger commercial vehicles of up to 5 tons were also made in the years preceding the first World War and saw service during the conflict.

The company hit commercial success with the 1.6-litre, vertical-twin side-valve 10/12, which was made from 1905 to 1913. It was popular with commercial drivers and did well in period formula events and hill-

Alldays 7HP Swing-seat tonneau 1904

climbs. A 16 hp 4-cylinder joined the lineup in 1906, and in 1908, the Enfield Autocar Co. was acquired. Shortly afterward, the range was rationalized, with most models being sold under both brand-names. The Alldays Alldays & Onions 1905

contribution to the equation was the well-established twin- and four-cylinders that put out 14 and 20 hp, always shaft-driven. A 30/35 hp six-cylinder was listed from 1911 to 1914, compressed-air starters being optional in 1911. In 1913, the 990 cc V-twin Midget cyclecar was introduced, featuring air cooling and shaft drive, selling at ₤138.10s. An 1100 cc 4-cylinder version with a bullnose radiator appeared in 1914, popular at the price of ₤175. Pair-cast side-valve four-cylinders rated at 12/14, 16/20, and 25/30 hp filled out the immediate pre-war offerings.

In 1908 Alldays & Onions merged with the short lived Enfield Autocar Company which had been formed to take over the car making interests of the Enfield Cycle Company. They produced cars called Enfield-Allday until 1925.[1]
