30TH ANNIVERSARY
On the 12th of April 2014, at 8pm (EST), being
midday in Rome, Pope Francis made the
a n n o u n c e m e n t t h a t
Fr Columba MacBeth-Green,
was nominated as the Seventh
Bishop of Wilcannia-Forbes.
This was a great day of
rejoicing and celebration for
the Pauline Order as this was
the second Pauline to be
elected a Bishop in the last ten years and more so for the
Australian Province as this is the first Pauline Father to be
nominated a Bishop and to receive such an office.
Born in Forbes, New South Wales, on the 30th of June
1968, Bishop Columba was educated at Red Bend Catholic
College, Forbes. Upon leaving school, he taught music and
joined the Army Reserve as a
Piper. In 1990, he joined the
Pauline Fathers. He studied for
the priesthood at St John Vianney
College, Wagga Wagga. On the
15th of September 1996, he made
his final vows and was ordained a
priest on the 22nd of November 1997.
In 1997, Bishop Columba was Administrator of
the Parish of Tarcutta which is in the Diocese of
Wagga Wagga and between 2002-2004, he was
Subprior of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy,
“Penrose Park” and Parish Priest of St Paul’s
Parish in Moss Vale from 2004-2006.
CONGRATULATIONS BISHOP COLUMBA!
Building Project Report by Fr Richard Green OSPPE
It is with great joy to inform all the pilgrims of Penrose Park
that the approval of the septic system for the toilet block has been
granted to the Shrine by the Wingecaribee Council and the Sydney
Catchment Authorities. This is fantastic progress as the building project can continue once the septic system has
been put in and installed, as this section of work is the vital lifeline for the entire complex. The contract was signed
on the 24th of October 2014 with work planned to commence mid February 2015.
The Pauline Fathers are on the look out for anyone to oblige who may have been in the trades of any kind.
Your help and expertise will assist in making this project run smoother as well as we are on the look out for
donations towards elements and materials that will help in the completion of the Project. The forecast is to look at
having the toilet block completed and operational by the end of 2015.
Thank you everyone for your help and support whether it was Spiritual, material or financial. Every little bit
helps just as we are motivated to help our pilgrims by providing them with this pilgrim centre.
From 2006-2011, Bishop Columba had quite the the
involvement with the Police forces, he was Chaplain at Police
Headquarters, Brisbane and also Chaplain for the South Eastern
Region, Queensland since 2011. He had previously been Police
Chaplain in Camden local area command (2002-2006) and
Wagga Wagga local area command (2000-2002). From 2006 till
his Episcopal Ordination, Bishop Columba was the Superior and
Rector of the Second Pauline Sanctuary in Australia, known as
Marian Valley which is located in Canungra, Queensland.
Bishop Columba’s Episcopal Ordination took place
on the 3rd of July, the Feast of St Thomas the Apostle at
Holy Family Catholic Church, Parkes, New South Wales at
11am. The Principal Consecrator was the Papal Nuncio,
His Excellency Archbishop Paul Gallagher with the
Principal Co-Consecrators being
Bishop Peter Ingham, (Wollongong
Diocese) and Bishop Michael
Kennedy (Armidale Diocese). The
Priest sponsors for the Bishop-elect were Fr Oskar Osinski OSPPE and Fr Anthony
Robbie. There were in attendance over 30 Bishops from across the nation as well
as the Pauline Fathers first Bishop the Most Reverend Stanislaw Dziuba OSPPE,
from South Africa. Representatives of the Pauline Order also came for the
ceremony including the Father General and members of the provinces in the
United States and Germany. The Church was packed to capacity with the
congregation representing all the areas that Bishop Columba had worked in as a
Priest and Chaplain. Bishop Columba was installed as Ordinary of Wilcannia-Forbes on Saturday the 5th
of July at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Broken Hill.
The celebrations were great days for the Church in
Australia as well as for the people in Wilcannia-Forbes,
who had been without a Bishop for the last 5 years due to
the resignation of the Most Reverend Christopher Toohey.
The people sang praises to God and thanked the Holy
Father for appointing a local boy as their Bishop and for
giving them a Pastor to continue leading them to God.
