From speaking to student groups over the last few weeks I have been made aware of many issuesthat are effecting individuals or groups across campus. The main consensus is that the biggestproblem facing students on and off campus, regardless of self identification, is the lack ofcommunication between most departments within the University and the student population.Students are the heart blood of the University and many of you have commented that due to asubstantial lack of communication you do not feel respected or supported by Coventry University;this is the main issue that I will strive to change if elected on your behalf.

As well as the issue of communication other issues were raised whilst interacting with studentgroups. These have allowed me to formulate the following list of proposed changes that I wouldimplement on your behalf if elected.

    Reduce Discrimination across campus

Create an environment at Coventry University where everyone has the right to be who they are orwish to be without fear of persecution, discrimination or retribution.

To work with all student groups as well as Coventry University to minimise all segregation anddiscriminationthat is currently occurring on campus and create a welcome environment for allstudents.

To support all Student Repsin the fulfilment of their role, ensuring that any issue raised at alllevels of the system is recognised and adequate support is provided by CUSU to enact anyrequired research or change that the student body feels is important. As part of this I wish topromote the outstanding contribution Student Reps make and raise their profile across campus forthe benefit of all.

To work with all Faculties through the Student Rep systemto enact changes that matter tostudents, the first of these will be campaigning for the exam timetable to be released earlier ineach semester so students with external responsibilities are not discriminated against by beinggiven short notice of exam times.

Fair and Equal Platform for all

To provide a platform for every individual student or group of students to have their say on issuesthat matter to them in a free, fair and open environment. From this I will ensure the full backingof CUSU is given to all student campaigns that are in the best interests of the Student community.

    Enhance citywide links

Not all of a students time is spent on campus. Therefore I will build closer ties between theStudents Union and the city utilising my existing contacts within the Police and the City Council toenhance student safetywithin the city.

To ensure support is available to students whenever required

To campaign for a drastic improvement in communicationwithin Coventry University as a whole. The time taken for students to be contacted in regard to academic and extra curricular matters bymost departments within the University is too long. This results in students experiencing extrastress and often not being made aware of valuable information until it is too late for them to actupon it and is something I will strive to change.

To work with Coventry University to provide better out of hours supportfor students within alldepartments. Coventry University is a living breathing beast that is alive 24 hours a day 7 days aweek, why are university departments only accessible to students for 8 hours a day 5 days aweek? (This issue is particularly relevant to students who have external commitments, be themfull time employment, childcareor logistically with family living overseas.)

To build upon my existing links with Student Supportand the International Officeto ensure therelevant support is available for students regardless of the nature of their issue to enhance thestudent experience as a whole.

To offer support and guidance along side Coventry University to individual students or groups ofstudents; resulting in the resolution of issuesthat matter to them and therefore enhance theiroverall experience at Coventry University.

    Endorsements & Recommendations

Harry will be an excellent addition to the sabbatical team.
