BOARD REPORT
On behalf of the Club Board of Directors I would like to extend to our members and guests the compliments of the season to you all. We hope you enjoy a wonderful time with your families and friends over the Christmas break and if travelling stay safe on the roads. Santa will
be making an appearance at the Club on Sunday 15th & 22nd December at some stage during the Raffles on Sunday Afternoon.
To all our bowlers who have given their time and energy throughout the year playing and supporting the Club in various capacities I thank you for your efforts and sincerely hope you can continue in 2020.
To our social members and guests thank you for your patronage throughout the year, the Club could not function without you.
Firstly, I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their support over the past 12 months. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our newest Directors, Mr Chris Blake, Mr John Seward and Mr John Knight to the Board and I look forward to working with you over the next 2 years.
Secondly, I would like to thank our General Manager, Mr Ian Doherty and the administration staff for the fantastic work throughout this year. The tireless work behind the scenes that has been
completed over the past 12 months has resulted with various improvements throughout the Club.
To the Bar Staff, you are the face of the Club and I would like to thank every one of you for a great year of wonderful service to our members and guests, your enthusiasm and smiles do not go unnoticed.
To the Green keepers, Phil and William along with Nick who left the Club in October, thank you for your continued hard work. We are the envy of other Clubs in the Zone in regards to the way our greens have been presented and prepared week in and week out. The gardens are blooming nicely at this time of year to make the Clubs surroundings bright and colourful for our members and guests.
To VIEWS Bistro staff, thank you for your continued efforts throughout the year. Your team is one of the many faces of the Club and our reputation is often placed in your hands.
Thanks, must also go to Presidents, John Seward and Barbara Thurtell and their committees for their continued efforts throughout 2019. These committees have been ably supported by our Bowls Manager Adam Jeffery.

Men’s Bowling Club President’s Report
Hello Bowlers.
On behalf of the new Men’s Bowling Club Committee, I would like to wish everyone the compliments of the season.
Firstly, congratulations to those winners of Club
championships this year who were acknowledged at our joint Presentation Night recently and well done to all those who participated. I am sure those who attended had a most enjoyable evening.
Many thanks to our Bowls Co-ordinator, Adam Jeffery, Barb Thurtell, Mary Teasdale and their team, Alex Fotheringham, Ian Doherty and their staff plus those others who contributed to making
it such a successful occasion. Also thanks to our ‘happy snapper’, David Lane. It was also great to see our sponsors and the legends of bowls who attended.
2020 promises to be challenging but exciting and with everyone pulling together I am sure we will have a successful year, especially with our new Club shirt giving us a lift.
So let’s continue to talk up Grandviews, get behind our Pennant sides, be positive and enjoy ourselves.

Women’s Bowling Club President’s Report
What an incredibly successful year 2019 has been for Grandviews Women’s Bowling Club.
Headlined by our Grade 3 pennant side who travelled to Kingscliff for the State Championships. While the
results didn’t go our way, I was very proud as a President to attend such a large competition with Grandviews Bowlers. With elite bowlers from all over NSW on the greens it was wonderful that our women were amongst it all.
We also had 6 ladies play in the Mavis McBride Cup – a competition which pits each Georges River Districts’ club major singles, pairs and triples champions against each other. This year Grandviews won the trophy which was a brilliant result.
Five of our Grandviews ladies were also selected to be a part of the District team which took on the Sutherland District team in fierce competition. After 20 years of being pipped at the post, this year Georges River District prevailed and claimed the honours.
In our other major Club competition results Mary Teasdale was our Major Singles champion, Carol Lander the Minor Singles Champion and Judy Hunt and Kerry Boughen took the Club Pairs Title. Judy Hunt, Kerry Boughen and myself had to fight to the end to win the Triples Championship. Fay Bickerton, Jan Smedley, Annette Ryan & myself won the club fours. This year’s Consistency Final was fabulous to watch, with Mary Teasdale winning by a very narrow margin over Judy Hunt.
Unfortunately, this year we decided to close the book on our annual Charity Days but boy did we go out with a bang! The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children were thrilled with this year’s
donation of $5420. In just the last 10 years alone we have raised more than $50,000 which is an extraordinary effort. So many charities have benefited from the Ladies generosity and as a member of this club, and this community, it has made me so incredibly proud.
We were also able to acknowledge the enormous amount of work and volunteering that Judy Hunt has done for our Club. This year we nominated Judy Hunt in the 2019 St George Community Awards in the Senior Volunteer of the Year Category. The awards night was a fitting occasion to thank Judy for all she has done.
In the past 12 months we have been saddened to lose some crucial members of our community and we think of them each week when we play. As a tribute to Sandra McCartney we introduced Sandra’s Day, a joint venture with Club Grandviews and the Men’s Bowling Club, to raise funds the Leukaemia Foundation. The inaugural Sandra’s Day, was a very successful with $4,250 being raised for the Leukemia Foundation. We look forward to this event building in future years.
I look back on 2019 with pride at our many achievements both on and off the green, but as we look towards 2020 we focus on the playing numbers in our club. We are always on the lookout for new members, and encourage you all to recruit any friends and family who are looking to join a wonderful community, expand their social network and keep themselves fit and agile. All ladies are welcome at Grandviews.
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year with your families, and I look forward to seeing, working and playing bowls with you all again next year.
Barb Thurtell

Bowls Co-ordinator’s Report-October/November
The Club Triples Final was played on Sunday 17 November (this was a joint Finals Day with the Minor Singles) and it was Les Newman, Michael Rowe & Paul Rowe 24 who defeated Brian Steward, Mick Free & Steve Jessep 17.
The 2019 Minor Singles was won by David McCartney 21-16 over David Lane in a very good and close game of singles.
The Club Mixed Pairs was won by Jennifer Wisby & David McCartney, defeating Pam & Rocky Robinson. The Mixed Fours were won by Mary Teasdale, Shirley Morgan, nick Buttolo and Chad Grant defeating Carole Lander, Helen Broderick, Terry Broderick and Kevin Wheatley.
RE: Pennant, at this stage there are approximately 80 names, which includes 11 new women, and a few reserves, so 6 grades plus 2 Pennant Cup teams seems achievable.
The Zone 2020 calendar is now ‘Official’. See club notice board & Zone 13 Web.
Pennant starts on Saturday 15 February, with the Zone Finals commencing 16 May.
Club Pennant lists & grade nominations have to be submitted to the Zone by 6 January.

On Sunday 24 November Lane Cove and Grandviews competed for the Bob Patterson Perpetual Trophy.
Grandviews bowlers, led by President Peter Marsh, travelled to Lane Cove confident of retaining the trophy. Alas the green was just back in and playing around 11 seconds giving Lane Cove a distinct advantage on which they capitalised to win 81 to 70.
Grandviews will be hosting the event in 2020 and looking forward to winning back the trophy.
