• Recorder’s Court is a high volume court established in 1972 to create a system that would effectively and efficiently process the growing number of traffic cases in Gwinnett County.

The mission of Gwinnett County Recorder's Court is to handle every case with care, security and fairness in order to effectively provide justice in a prompt and courteous manner.

Recorder's Court handles traffic citations and ordinance violations that are written by: • Gwinnett County Animal Control • Gwinnett County Fire Department • Gwinnett County Police Department • Gwinnett County Public Utilities • Gwinnett County Sheriff Department • Gwinnett County School Police • Georgia Department of Public Safety

What We Do

Recorder's Court handles traffic citations and ordinance violations that are written by: • Georgia Gwinnett College Police • Georgia State Patrol • Gwinnett Technical College Police • Environmental Health Dept. • Gwinnett Planning and Development • Gwinnett Police Quality of Life • Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner

What We Do

Mandated Services

• Keep all of the documents for all court cases • Collect all costs, fines, and forfeitures; and remit these

funds by the 15th day of the following month to the Gwinnett County Director of Finance or their designee

• Submit dispositions to Georgia Crime Information Center • Submit dispositions and failure to appear notices to

Department of Driver Services • Retain records according to Georgia Secretary of State

• $10,125,803 total fines and fees sent to the county in 2015.

• $8,658,000 in traffic and ordinance violations, bench warrant fees, etc.

• $997,696 for Stop arms cameras • $470,107 for Red light cameras

Online Payments

• Of the $7,057,102 fines and fees available to pay online $4,818,312 was collected.

• 68% of our “Non mandatory appearance” citations are paid online.

Where We’ve Been

• In 1972 Gwinnett's population was 84,000. • The court was operated by two part time

judges and a part time clerk. • Over the 44 year history of the court there

have been 8 judges on the bench, 3 of which are still serving. – Chief Judge Michael Green (1991) – Honorable Patricia Muise (2002) – Honorable Rodney Harris (2011)

Where We’ve Been

• The court has always been burdened by an abundant amount of paper and the lack of integrated technology.

• Over 100,000 citations would flow through the court each year and be passed from desk to the courtroom and then to multiple desk before being filed away.

• School bus stop arm cameras – The first citations were issued in January

2015 during the 2014-2015 school year with 230 buses equipped. Although a limited number of buses ran over the summer, the program fully resumed in August with 300 equipped.
