CHAMPIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

Section 20.2. A dog awarded WINNERS at a championship show held under these Dog Show Rules shall be credited with a number of championship poi nts (ranging from 0-5) and the determination of the number of championship points to be credited to a dog awarded WINNERS shall be as pr ovided hereunder. Section 2. The schedule to be employed in the determination of the number of points to be allocated

to a dog awarded WINNERS shall be as follows:

CHAPTER 8 Section 4.1.3 – JUDGES

A Judge officiating at a show held under these rules shall not be subj ected to any indignities of any kind during the progress of the show, and it shall be the duty and obligation of the club holding the

show to see this rule is effec tivel y enforced.

CHAPTER 13 – ENTRIES AND ENTRY FEES Section 2. Every dog entered in Championship Shows held under these Rules mus t be registered, or eligible for registration in the CKC. If a dog is not registered i ndi viduall y in the CKC, it may be

entered i n a show hel d under these rul es as a “listed” dog, provided a) it is not a Miscellaneous breed, b) if born in Canada, is eligible for registration in the recor ds of the CKC. The entry of a “listed” dogs at a show held under these Rul es must be accompani ed by a listing fee. CHAPTER 8 Section 8.6.2 DISHONOURED CHEQUES

Tendering of a dishonoured cheque or credit card i n payment of entry fees shall be consider ed non-payment of entr y fees. Clubs may refuse to accept entries from any exhibitors who have been known to tender dishonoured cheques in payment of entr y fees unl ess such entries are accompanied by a money order or certified cheque.

CHAPTER 14 Sec tion 14.1.4- DISQUALIFICATION A dog once disqualified for any reason at a Championship show held under these rules cannot again be shown or entered at a show held under these r ules unless and until sai d dog has been r einstated by the CKC. All awards earned by a dog shown in violation of this secti on will be cancelled by the CKC and the owner of sai d dog is subj ect to disciplinary acti on.

CHAPTER 5 Section 5.1.5 SHOW OFFICIALS A show-giving Club will be held responsible during the show for the conduct of exhi bitors and spectators. Any person acting in an abusi ve or obj ectionabl e manner mus t be removed from the show on complaint to the Show Superintendent

All entries mus t be complete, signed and mus t be submitted on the current official CKC entry form (back side of form not required). Entries submitted in any other size or format will be rejec ted. Telephone entries are not accepted. Incomplete or conditional entries, entries r ecei ved without full entr y fees or valid credit card numbers, or entries received by the Show Secretar y after the advertised

Regular Classes – Div ided by sex: Junior Puppy (6-9 Months), Senior Puppy (9-12 months), 12-18 Months, Canadian Bred, Bred by Exhibitor, Open and Veterans. Specials Only. Exhibition Only.

Sexually Altered Classes – This is a Regular specialty class; judging will be after Best of Breed in the Regular Classes. For any sexually altered Whippets eligible f or registration with the CKC ov er six months of age. There may be one award f or: Winners Altered

Male/Female; Reserv e Winners Altered Male/Female, Best Altered in Breed.

Awards of Merit – Presentation(s) will be made after Best of Breed judging. One Award per ev ery 10 entries competing f or Best of Breed may be offered.

Non-Regular Classes – Brace, Stud Dog and Get, Brood Bitch and Progeny, Field Dog.

Puppy Sweepstakes Classes – The f ollowing classes are off ered f or both dogs and

bitches: Junior Puppy (6-9 Month Class), Senior Puppy (9-12 Month Class) and 12-18 Month Class.

Veteran Sweepstakes Classes – The f ollowing classes are offered for both dogs and

bitches: 7-9 Years Class and 10 Years and over Class.

REGULAR JUDGE HELEN BRETTELL

I started being involved with show dogs in about 1968, when my mother got her first Borzoi. They were two brothers, born and bred in Canada, who became

group winners and addicted the entire family to the showing of dogs. I still have Borzoi today, who are descended from those original two dogs. I got my first

whippet in 1975, from Jean Ueltschy. This was a rose fawn dog that did well in Canada, but was not the right “look” for the U.S. My involvement in whippets

might have ended there except that I became romantically involved with Cloyce Almonrode, of Briarwyke whippets, who had recently become divorced.

Briarwyke whippets were strongly bred on English lines, especially Barndance. We married and carried on with the whippets, but the relationship did not last.

We eventually divorced and I kept the whippets.

I worked to preserve those bloodlines, but have also moved in different directions. Nine years ago, Mary Downing and I co-bred a litter from one of her

bitches bred to an Allerei dog and this has been a new start for me. I have a multi-specialty winner from that breeding, Ch. Lost Creek Malted Milk Whimsy, a

mostly white dog who has done nice winning for me and has produced some lovely puppies. Everything I have now I descended from him and I am happy

about how it is all going. Last year one of my young dogs was honored to win the Whippet Club of B.C. Specialty under Pauline Oliver. I only breed once a

year, or less, and prefer showing at Specialties to all-breed shows.

As a breeder and judge, I love all the wonderful colors and markings of whippets and truly believe that color is immaterial. I like a strong sound dog that is also

attractive in appearance. I believe that judging dog shows is about the dog, not about the presentation.

SWEEPSTAKES JUDGE LYNN CLEARY

I have been in sighthounds since 1978 and whippets since 1981 and have bred

several top Lure Coursing whippets. I have shown many of my whippets to their Championship, including BISS, BPISs, and many Group placements.

More currently we started straight racing and oval track for whippets. I believe Form follows Function. We have held CKC Lure Trials on our property over the

past 18 years, and straight racing for the past 4 years.

It is a honor to be asked to judge your Sweeps, and I am looking forward to seeing all your lovely puppies!

Stained Glass trophies will be offered f or: BOB, BOS, Awards of Merit, BOW, Puppy, WD, WB, RW, Best Veteran, Brace, Sire, Dam, Field Class, BOB Altered, BOS Altered,

Winners and Reserv e Altered. A souv enir plate with the 2008 logo will be offered by NWCC or by indiv idual sponsorship f or f irst in each class.

PERPETUAL TROPHIES

Steve & Linda Buchholz (Swif tsure) offer a perpetual trophy f or Best of Breed in lov ing

memory of MSBIS MBIS Am.Can.Ch. Swiftsure Out of Af rica. “Gilly ” won the NWCC National Specialty twice f rom the Veteran’s class. This trophy is to remain in the

possession of the NWCC

Terry Taft (Baccarat) offers a perpetual trophy f or Best of Winners in memory of Can.Am.Ch. Astrologer of Alery. The trophy is a 13” bronze whippet on a base. It will

remain in the possession of the NWCC until such time as one owner has won the trophy 3 times (not necessarily with the same dog).

Aikerskaill Kennels offers a perpetual trophy for Veteran Dog (Senior) in memory of Am.

CH. Whippoorwill Tanzanite. This trophy is to remain in he possession of the NWCC until such time as one owner has won the trophy 3 times (not necessarily with the same dog).

Patricia Miller (Woodsmoke) offers a perpetual trophy for the top breeder/owner handled

Whippet in memory of BIS Am.Can. Ch. Woodsmoke’s Share a Moment – one of the top winning breeder/owner-handled whippet in breed history . The trophy is to remain in the possession of the NWCC until such time as one breeder/owner/handler has won the

trophy 3 times (not necessarily with the same dog).

Winsmith Kennels is pleased to offer a perpetual trophy f or the Senior Veteran Bitch in memory of Ch. Tuckerton Minnie Pearl. Minnie was an Award of Merit winner at the f irst

National. This trophy is to remain in the possession of NWCC until such time as one owner has won the trophy 3 times (not necessarily with the same dog). .

Janet and Bo Juzkiw offer a perpetual trophy for Best of Breed Altered in honour of Ch

(Alt.) Dauntae’s Our Little Rascal, Am.Can.CD and AmCan Ch Rav enridge Beltane Fire, Am.CD, both past NWCC National Specialty Best of Breed Altered winners. This trophy is

to remain in the possession of NWCC until such time as one owner has won the trophy 3 times (not necessarily with the same dog).

PROCEDURES AND AWARDING OF STAKES

Whippets entering sweepstakes classes must be entered in Regular or Exhibition Only

classes. The f irst place winner of each class will compete for Best in Puppy Sweepstakes or f or Best in Veteran Sweepstakes. Best of Opposite Sex will be chosen for each sweepstakes.

Prize monies will be awarded f or each age class as follows: First place 40% of stake monies collected f or that class Second place 20% of stake monies collected f or that class

Third place 15% of stake monies collected f or that class Fourth place 10% of stake monies collected f or that class

Best in Sweepstakes 5% of stake monies collected f or all classes

March 1992 - June 10, 2006 We picked Nipper up from the Montreal SPCA the week before Christmas, 1992. That was the start of a fourteen-y ear adv enture. She coursed, camped and canoed. She hunted with our Border Terriers, locating activ e holes with unerring accuracy but nev er participating in the rough stuff. She counter cruised to the detriment of sev eral dishes and raided cupboards to the occasional detriment of her own digestiv e sy stem until we found a foolproof sy stem of bungees, and other whippet-proof dev ices. She trav elled ev erywhere with us, making friends - two-legged and four - wherev er she went.

May you ever run with the wind swift

friend. Your velvet muzzle, zest for life and regal sight hound expectations are

still missed. The void you left in our hearts may be filled but your pawprints

will never be erased.
