OFFICIAL 2013 DALLAS DOME WHO-DATS REGULAR SEASON NEWSLETTER #23

REVENGE is at hand….

In 2010, the New Orleans franchise, led by Drew Brees were denied the chance to “Repeat-Dat” when

they had to travel to Seattle and participate in a Playoff game that was hosted by a losing team, the 7-9

Seattle Seahawks, which was the first time in NFL history that a losing club had ever hosted, or been

allowed to host a playoff game.

By defeating the St. Louis Rams in a Sunday night game (a week earlier), the Seattle Seahawks qualified

for the N.F.L. playoffs in spite of having lost nine games and won only seven.

They are almost certainly the worst team to EVER advance to the Playoffs. The Seahawks of 2010 were

not any garden-variety 7-9 team however: they were an incredibly bad 7-9 team.

First, consider the Seahawks’ point differential. They allowed 407 points during the regular season while

scoring just 310, meaning that they were outscored by roughly a touchdown per game on average.

Although it is quite common for N.F.L. teams to reach the playoffs with a negative point differential,

none has had one as poor as the Seahawks’ minus-97.

The Seahawks, moreover, were probably fortunate to be outscored by only 97 points measured by

yardage, their offense ranked 28th out of the 32 NFL teams while their defense ranked 27

th.

Ironically, the 2010 San Diego Chargers led the N.F.L. in both of those categories, but finished 9-7 and

missed the playoffs that year. The Seahawks’ yardage differential — they were outgained by more than

1,100 yards that season, not counting special-teams plays — was the second-worst in football, ahead of

only the Arizona Cardinals.

But wait, there’s more! The Seahawks compiled those inglorious stats and 7-9 record against mediocre

opposition. Not only did they have the benefit of playing six games against the other weak teams in the

N.F.C. West that year (and the following year the San Francisco 49ers did the same which propelled them

to a 14-2 record), but the Seahawks four intra-conference games were scheduled against teams in the

A.F.C. West, which was also rather weak that year. The Seahawks also had the fifth easiest schedule of

the 2010 season.

The year, stats compiled by the geniuses at Football Outsiders — the Seahawks were actually the very

worst team in the N.F.L. over the course of the 2010 regular season.

I didn’t want to pile onto the Seahawks too much; but here’s another statistic: In 2010; the four teams in

the NFC West were each among the six worst teams in football that year. According to a mathematical

formula the Seahawks of that season would’ve been a 3-point favorite over the 2008 Detroit Lions that

went 0-16.

That’s horrible! And they actually got to host a Playoff game!!

So, how did a mediocre Seattle team defeat the The Boyz N Black & Gold that year? After all, the Saints

had dominated the League the previous year. They were the “Super Saints”. Well, many of you have

heard me talk about the “West Coast Kryptonite” which is a term I coined after the 2011 Playoff defeat to

the hated Niners in San Francisco but it’s not just trips to the west-coast, because the Saints have a bad

Playoff history on the road and it’s the last remaining ‘hex’ to conquer by the Payton-Brees Era.

Below; I’ve listed the Saints’ Playoff history, and as you can see, the Saints are 1-4 in Playoff games on

the road.

Overall, the Black N Gold is 6-7 in the Playoffs all-time and 5 of those 6 wins are during the Payton-

Brees Era, so if that curse is going to end, if that’s what it is, I think it’ll happen now.

THE COMING BATTLE:

Anyway, that’s in the past, but The SaintsGuy knows how to hold a grudge and now it’s PAYBACK!!!!

The top two teams in the NFC will face off on Monday Night Football on December 2nd

in what is

obviously a “playoff-preview” of a match-up that might very well unfold later this season. A point that I

would like to make is that this game can benefit the Saints in a way that the media hasn’t alerted too.

First let’s remember the dominance that Saints teams have had on Primetime games (Sunday and Monday

night) since Coach Payton arrived. In fact, just this season alone, they are 3-0 with 2 more games left to

play on the National stage.

Week Game Score/Time (CT) TV

4 vs Dolphins W, 38-17 ESPN

10 vs Cowboys W, 49-17 NBC

12 at Falcons W, 17-13 NFL Network

13 at Seahawks 7:40 pm ESPN

14 vs Panthers 7:30 pm NBC

Secondly, the Rob Ryan secondary is a lot stronger than the weak 2010 defensive backfield. Although,

now, Greer has been lost for the season, but DB, Chris Carr looks great. And this year, we’ve got

Vacarro!

Thirdly, if all of you recall, every one of our running backs were on IR when that playoff game rolled

around and there was no running attack whatsoever! This year, the running game was off to a slow start

but during the 3-games that made up the ‘Evil-Franchise-Trifecta’ the Saints running-game has

exploded….and hasn’t stopped!!

And last, but not least, there’s the REVENGE factor. The Seahawks will always be the team that ruined

“Two-Dat”. Don’t tell me Brees and Payton haven’t been waiting for this day….

JOHNNY FOOTBALL SWEEPSTAKES: Many of you saw the game between LSU and

Texas A&M last weekend. What you didn’t see was the AMAZING comeback engineered by

none other, than, “Johnny Football”!! This former Heisman Winner can pass, catch, run, jump,

tackle, play defense, punt, kick field-goals and make eggs-Benedict! He does it all!!! After this

week’s events in the NFL; the Atlanta Falcons have moved into first place and the teams listed

below are in a close race to determine who will get the Number 1 Pick in the 2014 NFL

Draft………..

Congrats to the Dirty Birds for moving into First!

In 2nd Place at 2-9 and reorganizing depth chart

Currently at 2-9 and getting closer to Johnny

In 4th Place for the 4th Pick at 2-8 to get this guy

Saint Joe’s WEEKLY-RANT

Eleven Down and Six to Go!

Since that first "true loss" to the Jets almost four weeks ago the

Saints have been on a roll by desimating the Cowboys, surviving the

Forty-Niners on a justified ‘ruffing’ call near the end, and "getting

the win at Atlanta without Darren Sproles or Jhari Evans.

The Saints have played eleven games; in fact, they just completed

playing three games in the span of eleven days and they won all three

of them. To me that truly is a "sign" of a good competitive team that

is "Battle Tested" as I like to say, so let's get it going again

starting with the mighty Seahawks this Monday night.

I don't care about stats, I don't care about Marshawn "The Beast"

Lynch, and I don't give a darn about all the screaming "12th Man"

crowd noise that's supposed to influence the game’s play in favor of

the Seahawks.

Saints have a veteran offensive team that’s been there, saw that

before at Seattle, and this time we will be there with "a vastly

improved defense", led by a new leader with new players, and

a totally different attitude.

I would love to be there to see this one because this will really be

something to "behold" as a Saints fan: Russell Wilson is undefeated at

home and the Saints are just about indestructible on Monday Night

games since the Sean Payton/Drew Brees Era.

I truly believe you will see plays and formations, player rotations

and a few sneaky-keen blitzing "packages" we have never seen thus far

this year, but it will happen on Monday night.

I know it will be important to establish a running game, but don't

count on it; because this is a Sean Payton coached team, there's

nothing "old school" about his style of play calling.

Then you may say, wow that all sounds good, how do you know we will

all see all of these "fireworks" on both sides of ball Monday night?

Truth is the Saints have their backs against the wall, this game is

very significant in obtaining ‘home-field-advantage’, and the Saints

have to be sick and tired of this "they can't win on the road” media

bombardment.

Everybody is making the trip for this one; this team will be ready:

They had ten days to plan the Siege of Seattle. It won't be a cake

walk as we only saw that a couple of times this year and those games

were played at the Dome.

But as they say one game at a time, well this is truly "the one" that

will show the entire "Who Dat Nation" what we have going for us in the

upcoming post season.

I can't wait 'till Monday Night Football! This will be the best

Saints regular season showing, and a prevue of what's to come….
