30 September 2019 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Re: Special Joint Campaign CCCB-CCODP for Emergency Relief in the Bahamas

It is with great sadness and concern that we have learned of the extensive damage left behind by the hurricane and tropical storm in the Bahamas. I am always amazed by the generosity of the people of our diocese at the time of a natural disaster, and ask you to support emergency relief efforts for victims of the hurricane and tropical storm in the Bahamas through collections that will be taken up in our parishes. Once again, we will work with the Canadian Catholic Organization of Development and Peace (CCODP) in ensuring that the funds collected are safely delivered. Development and Peace is working in collaboration with the Caritas members in the region. In the Diocese of London, funds are to be collected at the parish level and will be forwarded to CCODP. Along with the funds, prayers are urgently needed at this time for the victims and their families. Your prayers, generosity, and assistance are greatly appreciated. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Rev. Ronald P. Fabbro, C.S.B., Bishop of London

Please make your cheque payable to your parish and mark “Bahamas” in the memo. Donations can be placed in the Sunday collection basket. Tax receipt will be issued.

Anyone in need of a diabetes tester please call the parish office.

We wish to thank our parish Philipino community for the beautiful display of their culture. On Saturday, Sept. 28, our Lady of Mercy celebrated the feast day of San Lorenzo Ruiz. In addition to the Holy Mass, we were treated to Philipino music, dancing and a meal that will not soon be forgotten. This year was a first in our parish for this celebration, but make sure to mark your calendar for next year. Thank you to the committee and everyone who participated on that special evening.

As many of you will remember, this past August saw St. Joseph bell ringing once again after a long absence. This was a special project dear to many in our parish. Several groups and individuals worked hard to make this dream a reality including St. Joseph CWL ladies and Knights of Columbus Council 1429. This project was more costly than originally budgeted for. We are grateful and pleased to announce that both of our parishes service arms came through with additional funding. Thank you to the CWL ladies for your cheque of $1000 and to our gentleman

Knights for your cheque of $1500. You inspire us with your dedication.

As fall and winter will soon be here, we are working tirelessly to complete those many outside jobs while the weather cooperates. You will notice Our Lady of Mercy 141 year old front doors are finally repainted. Many hours were spent stripping old loose finish, epoxy filling rot, priming and painting those doors. The colour chosen is close to the original paint colour used in 1878.

The cluster parish property and grounds committee are hoping to coordinate volunteers for small and medium size projects in the parish. We are looking to start an email database so we can let those interested in volunteering be aware of upcoming projects. Group emails will periodically be sent out and you can sign up for those jobs that you are interested in helping with. An example of upcoming projects include painting walls at all three of our parish halls. Maybe you can't help with something that physical, but there will be lots of opportunities for every-one. Perhaps you can help serve coffee and refreshments at our weekend Mass coffee socials. It's up to you, this is a no pressure group that will hopefully be fun yet productive. If you are interested in participating, please send Chris Burley an email: [email protected] with “Parish Volunteers” in the heading, or you can contact the parish office.
