In our world today, there are any number of people who are overlooked. They may be homeless, unemployed or disadvantaged in some way. Additionally, there are people who are simply lackluster or uninteresting. It is so easy for us to look past people. It is amazing to think of the number of people who enter and exit our life and

how many of them go largely unnoticed. How sensitive Jesus was to those who were left out. Whether it was an old and bent woman, who touched his clothes, a mother on the way to her son’s burial, a short and unimpressive Zacchaeus climbing up a tree or a dejected woman consumed by sin, no one was overlooked. In reaching out to Bartimaeus in today’s Gospel, who could scarcely make himself heard, Jesus gave a man sight and gained a disciple. Jesus understands what it means to fail, to become disheartened, to be tested and even to be rejected. Jesus knows what it means to be overlooked. In our dealings of every day, he asks to remember and consider how we might be Jesus to another. We are also reminded to turn to him for strength, guidance and healing. Jesus is a source of great comfort and consolation. Jesus stands before the Father on our behalf. He is a mighty intercessor. Please remember to fill out the discipleship survey in which all parishes in the diocese are participating. The link to the survey is listed on the next page. It takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. We are inviting all parishioners 16 years and older to take part. Your feedback will be appreciated. All responses are confidential. The survey will be available through Nov. 22. Please help us out with this. Thanks in advance for your participation. Have a blessed week, Fr. Brian

St. Andrew dinner set for Nov. 12 If you are a young man of high school or college age, who has ever given any thought to considering the possibility of priesthood, this opportunity may be for you. Bishop Donald J. Hying and Vocations Director Fr. Greg Ihm would like to invite you to a dinner on Friday, Nov. 12 to simply talk about the possibility of priesthood. Your fathers are also invited to attend along with myself. For more information or to make a reservation contact the Diocese of Madison Vocations Office at 608-821-3089. This is a great opportunity to learn more and to meet others who may be thinking about this as well. Please consider attending.

THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Liturgical Life

Brought together in Christ Paul, writing to a divided community, stresses that God is an impartial judge; he will repay each person according to

their works. Whether Gentile or Jewish, everyone is called to the same life in Christ.

This is the path that leads to eternal glory in Heaven!

Religious Education Middle, high school catechists needed!

Registration is now available for our new religious education program, “Family of Faith.” Family of Faith nights are tentatively scheduled to run from 5:30-7:30 p.m., on Wednesdays. We will begin with an optional meal at 5:30 p.m. The next two dates are: Nov. 3 and Dec. 1. There has been one schedule change. The March meeting will be held on March 9. Please make this change to your schedule. Registration is online at www.stbmidd.org/familyfaith. For more, contact Jenna Ripp at [email protected] for elementary grades and Kathleen Teodoro at [email protected] for middle and high school. Finally, please contact Kathleen about volunteering as a small group leader for middle or school classes. We need you to spend time with them and give them a reason to trust in God’s love.

Discipleship survey

is now open It’s official! The Disciple Maker Index Survey is open, and we need your help! We are participating in a parish-wide survey about discipleship conducted by the Catholic Leadership Institute, a non-profit Catholic apostolate that does leadership training and development, but we need your help. Please help us participate by completing a 10-15 minute survey as soon as possible. Go to https://portal.catholicleaders.org/d/k5d1g2 If you prefer a paper copy, you can pick one up after the daily and Sunday Masses. They will be located at all church entrances. Printable versions of the survey are also available at stbmidd.org/news/parish-to-participate-in-discipleship-survey. To submit the completed paper survey, please it drop off at the parish office. To make special arrangements for getting a paper copy, please contact Laura Angle at 608-831-5879. We are trying to get the highest response rate possible. This information will be invaluable to Fr. Brian and our various ministries as we plan for the future and strive to be the best disciples we can be. We will receive the results this spring/summer at which time we will share what we have learned with the entire parish. The survey will only be available from Oct. 14 to Nov. 22 and will ask you to reflect on your own spiritual growth and enable you to provide feedback on our parish’s efforts to help you grow. All responses will be confidential, and the parish will only receive information about the community as whole.

Our diocesan initiative breaks down evangelization into two simple parts: be holy and talk to others about Jesus. We grow in holiness as we allow our hearts to be transformed by the heart of Jesus. It has been said that we become like the five people closest to us. Is Jesus one of your five? If not, how does He want you to spend more time with Him? If He is already one of your five, how is He forming your heart? Holiness is a life-long pursuit. Ask Jesus to guide you to grow in holiness. He will not refuse!

Pheasant Branch nature walk on Oct. 23 Enjoy fall in God’s creation by Middleton’s Pheasant Branch Creek — building friendships and growing in faith! We will meet in the St. Bernard parking lot at 10 a.m., Oct. 24 and walk to the trail. Bring strollers if you have little ones! It will be led by our parish Care for Creation team. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. See you there!

group? The St. Bernard Madonna Rosary Makers meet the second Thursday at 9 a.m., every other month starting in January in the parish center. There is no meeting in July. pilgrimages, such as Holy Hill, EWTN and nursing homes. From September 2020 to September 2021, we made 3,173 rosaries. The goal of our group is to help spread Our Blessed Mother's most powerful devotional prayer. Would you like to join us? To join, contact Barb Bohringer at [email protected].
