A Mission Study is a process that a congregation goes through to seek discernment about how God would have that church to be and to act in the future. Since the last time a Mission Study was done was 1997, it seemed pertinent that another Mission Study be done. Many people confuse a congregational Mission Study with Long Range Planning or Strategic Planning because both end up with a Vision and a list of Goals and Objectives. But there are a number of differences. The first and foremost difference is that, as a church, we always seek to examine ourselves and our actions in light of scripture and prayerfully to ask God’s guidance as we try to determine the work that God wants us to do in a certain time and place. Secondly, unlike most corporations, the church is a volunteer organization. The corporate model, in which leadership sets direction and tells staff to follow it, does not work well in a church. It is important to involve as much of the congregation as possible in the process of self-examination and decision-making. There are two reasons for this. One is that as Reformed Christians we believe both in the priesthood of believers and in the corporate body of the church—that together we are richer and wiser than we are separately. The second is to develop a sense of ownership within the congregation of the new directions for the ministry of that church in the coming years. A well-founded Mission Study includes fact-finding about the congregation and the community in which it ministers. This demographic information is found by looking at past statistical reports from previous years and through some sort of demographic survey. Denise and Maggie are working on the statistical report. The congregation will give input for the rest, usually done by some sort of congregational gathering. This provides an opportunity for members of the congregation, prayerfully, to study what scripture says about the church, to learn new information about its community and its needs, to learn who they have been and who they are as a congregation, and to celebrate their gifts as a church. Once this period of learning is complete, then the congregation has the information it needs to begin to design its Vision and develop new Goals and Objectives for its ministry in the coming years. A Mission Study should be a process executed and owned by the congregation. Hopefully, this explanation helps as we move forward. Where there is no vision, the people perish…” Proverbs 29: 18 KJV God bless, Pastor Terry

Thank you for the silver dollar and snake! But more than that,

thank you for the memories, friendships and family you have

given me. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me

next year! Steph Vipond

Thank you for the graduation blessing! It is truly appreciated.

Thank you for making me feel welcome and for giving me a

second home! Once again, thank you for the generous

graduation blessing! God bless! Sincerely, Nichole Lowe

Thank you for being a place of worship where my heart feels

full and safe. I have grown up in this church, going from the

baby that the congregation sang “Behold, What Manner of

Love” to walking across the front of the church on graduation

day. I will cherish the friendships, the lessons and the memories

that were made here. I am beyond grateful to consider you

all family—my brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you from the

bottom of my heart. Sincerely, Brooke Norgaard

It is with sincere gratitude, we extend our thanks to our

volunteers, Ron & Phyllis Huisinga, Dale & Jan Eads, Roger &

Marilyn Poppen, and Gary & Helene Handeland, for the giving

of their time to deliver meals to our community shut-ins in May.

On behalf of the Christian Education Committee, a special

thank you to all who dedicated their time, talents and efforts

to make Vacation Bible School a wonderful success. Your

efforts were much appreciated. A special thank you to the

directors, Rochelle Jacobsma and Shantry Dake!

Thank you to our church family...we have been welcomed,

loved, encouraged, supported, and cared for by all of you

over the past 7 years. All praise to God our Father for allowing

our paths to cross. We have truly been blessed...we love this

church and church family. If you are ever in Orange City,

please stop and visit! This is our prayer: As we go, may Your

Spirit go before us. As we go, may we follow where You lead.

May we live what we have learned, share the message we

have heard, and be a light unto the world, as we go. Kent,

Heidi, Keegan, Addi, & Kolby Douma (new address on page 6)

Many thanks to all those who sustained us with their visits,

prayers, cards and words of condolence during the last few

months when we lost a niece and brother. God does give

strength and we are so grateful. Don & Dorothy Funk

A sincere thanks to all who helped with the 2018 Osceola

County Bible Reading Marathon. We did read through the

whole Bible in 4 days (June 28 thru July 1). What a great way

to witness for our Lord and Savior. It was great to include our

whole town and county. God also intervened with his whistle

in the wind. Thanks everyone! The Bible Marathon Committee

Thank you for all the support and prayers during our time of
