*HYMN No. 77 “HOW GREAT THOU ART”

PSALM 51:1-17 Page 785 ANTHEM “CAST OUT, O CHRIST” -Bringle/McIntyre Cast out, O Christ, cast far away the demons that destroy: the haunting dreads that choke our souls, the hates that stifle joy.

Our raging griefs, our jealous fears are Legion in their name. Our shackled hearts implore your grace to loose our binding shame. Once long ago, from Galilee, you sailed to storm-tossed shores. And still, in power, you brave new paths to breach our bolted doors.

Your Word spreads life and health and hope that break through evil’s thrall.

You send us, strengthened, home in peace to live your gospel call.

So come, O Christ, and cast away the demons that destroy. Transform our lives to sense your love and spread abroad your joy. SCRIPTURE LESSON 2 Corinthians 5: 20b - 6 HYMN No. 382 “HAVE THINE OWN WAY, LORD” GOSPEL LESSON Matthew 6: 1-6, 16-21 INVITATION TO ABSTINENCE OFFERING “JUST AS I AM” PRAYER OF CONFESSION O gracious and merciful God, we are wounded, wayward and often wearied; we need a real God. We have gathered to acknowledge our desperate need to return to you. Reveal yourself to your people as we turn our hearts to you. PRAYER OVER THE ASHES HOLY COMMUNION
