Subject: Admission to M.Sc. (4 Semesters) Degree Programme in Physics at IIT Kanpur through JAM 2013 Dear Candidate,

You have been provisionally selected under GEN/OBC/SC/ST/PD category for admission to the M.Sc. (4 Semesters) Degree Programme in Physics at IIT Kanpur based on the UPDATED list of the SECOND ROUND ADMISSION. Since you had request to be considered for higher choices after the FIRST ROUND, your first round choice is upgraded and as per that, you have been offered the above programme. The total fee to be paid for the Ist Semester 2013-2014 is as under:

General/OBC Category Students

SC/ST (for Parent’s/ Guardian’s annual income greater than Rs. 4.5 Lakh)

SC/ST (for Parent’s/ Guardian’s annual income less than Rs. 4.5 Lakh)

Registration Fee Rs. 24,517.00 Rs. 21,517.00 Rs. 20,767.00

A copy of the fee details is enclosed with this letter. All new students admitted to IIT Kanpur through JAM 2013 are expected to report at IIT Kanpur by July 19, 2013 for an orientation program that commences on July 20, 2013. All such students must bring with them the following:

(i) A demand draft for fee (Rs. 24,517.00, Rs. 21,517.00 or Rs.20,767.00 as applicable) in favour of “The Registrar, IIT Kanpur” payable at “Kanpur”.

(ii) SC/ST candidates must also bring the income certificate of the parent/guardian. (iii) A sum of Rs. 3000.00 (in cash) which needs to be deposited towards mess advance

(adjustable) to the Hall (Hostel) of residence assigned to the candidate. (iv) Photocopies of certificates and marks sheets of 10+2 and qualifying degree

examinations. (v) Physical fitness certificate.

All new students arriving at IIT Kanpur must report to the control room. The information about the location of the control room will be available at our website http://www.iitk.ac.in/counsel/. Hostel accommodation will be provided to each new student in one of the halls of residences. In case the student is unable to report on July 19, 2013, he/she must inform the undersigned, in writing, and can still register by August 1, 2013 with a late registration fee of Rs.1000.00. Note that the minimum educational qualification (MEQ) and eligibility requirement (ER) to take admission in the M.Sc. (4 Semesters) Degree Programme in Physics at IIT Kanpur are the following:

MEQ: Bachelor’s degree with Physics as a subject for at least two years / four semesters and Mathematics for at least one year/two semesters.

ER: At least 55% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for General/OBC category candidates and at least 50% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC/ST and PD category candidates in the qualifying degree. Failing to comply with any of the above requirements will automatically lead to the cancellation of your admission to the M.Sc. (4 Semesters) Degree Programme in Physics at IIT Kanpur and you will have to leave the program. Candidates whose final results for the qualifying degree are awaited have to submit the final results by September 30, 2013.candidates may also note that all their final exams including project viva (if any) must have been over before the day of registration at IIT Kanpur. Candidates admitted to programmes through OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PD should note the following. OBC (Non Creamy Layer) candidates should have a certificate in prescribed format issued after 31/03/2012. SC/ST/PD candidates should have certificates in the prescribed format. Please submit parent’s income certificate / affidavit for Merit-cum Means Scholarship.
