Offensive PlaybookRun Game: Bone Formation
Bone FormationThis offense is based on spread formations. Of the 13 primary formations, every one features a 1- or 2-back set with WRs stretching the field.
Bone is a special 3-back diamond-style formation, with the 2 slot WRs lined up in the backfield with the F. Any play can be run out of Bone, but as a non-spread formation, it’s unique enough to warrant two dedicated sections in the playbook (one run, one pass).
Bone is useful in goal-line and short-yardage situations, as well as when additional or maximum pass protection is needed. It’s also great for younger teams who might struggle with the spread.
