Postdoctoral ResearcherThe Peripheral Neuropathy Group within the VIB Department of Molecular Genetics is looking for a junior Postdoctoral Researcher to supporttheir research in the following function: Job description We have contributed to the identification of mutations in genes responsible for varioustypes of inherited peripheral neuropathies. One of our projects aims to study the effect of mutations in the serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT)enzyme causing hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy. The postdoc will design and apply molecular and behavioural tools to studySPT mutations modelled in Drosophila melanogaster, as to gain in understanding the underlying pathomechanisms of axonal degeneration andopen up perspectives for molecular therapy. The fly work will be complemented by various in vitro (cell biological) assays. We offer an excellentmultidisciplinary team-oriented research environment involving clinicians, geneticists, molecular biologists and bio-informaticians. 'On-the-job' training is carried out over the course of one academic year and is combined withprofessional duties in the school.The CILT GTP is unique because it is the only GTP in England which solely recruits native speakers of French,Spanish and German, providing a training course specifically designed to meet their needs.At the end of the Graduate Teacher Programme training year, successful trainees gain Qualified Teacher Status(QTS). This enables you to apply for work as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) in England or Wales. It will not enableyou to work as a qualified teacher in most other European Union countries.
