Ash Wednesday Service

Christ in the Passover Jesus' Last Supper was actually a Jewish Passover. David Liebman of Jews for Jesus will re-create the traditional Passover service and explain how it foreshadowed Jesus' death and resurrection in a presentation called "Christ in the Passover" at Mt. Oak United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 5th at 7:00 PM. David Liebman will set a table with items traditionally used at the Passover meal and detail their spiritual significance. He will also explain the connection between the events of the first Passover in Egypt and the redemption that Jesus accomplished, as well as the deep bond between the ancient Passover feast and the Christian communion celebration today. Jews for Jesus has presented "Christ in the Passover" at over 38,000 churches. It has been enthusiastically received by Christians who appre-ciate learning more about the Jewish backgrounds of their faith. Moishe Rosen, who founded Jews for Jesus in 1973, has also co-written the book, Christ in the Passover, with his wife, Ceil. This seminal work in-cludes a look at Passover in ancient times and how it is practiced today. It will be available after the presentation. Also available will be a DVD of the Christ in the Passover presentation with David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus, officiating. Brickner, a fifth-generation Jewish believer in Jesus, succeeded Rosen as Executive Director in 1996. Brickner has kept Jews for Jesus on the cut-ting edge as the ministry has expanded and established branches in elev-en countries, including the United States, Brazil, Israel, Russia, France, and South Africa. "We exist to make the Messiahship of Jesus an una-voidable issue to our Jewish people worldwide," Brickner states. "There are still a few that haven't heard of us!" David Liebman will be happy to answer questions after the presentation. Call (301) 249-2230 or visit http://www.mtoak.org for more information. There is no admission charge.

Our Mission: “To lead children to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

6th – 8th Grade Students Prepare to

IGNITE RE : FORMEDIGNITE RE : FORMEDIGNITE RE : FORMEDIGNITE RE : FORMED

On March 9th during the 10:30 worship service, we will be re-launching the 6th – 8th grade IGNITE class. This class will answer the foundational theological questions this age group is desperately asking on the bible, other religions, the creed, discipleship, etc. I

invite you to check out this link to find out more: http://wearesparkhouse.org/teens/reform/core/.

Our main goals with this group are,

1. For our kids learn WHAT they believe and WHY. They need their questions answered and if we, the church, don't the world will fill in the gap! 2. To provide kids that are in the most tumultuous times of their lives, with a safe place to grow their faith. With all the questions of these early teen years, we have a responsibility to guide them through! 3. To provide solid Christian Adults to serve as mentors to these kids during the prime years of foundational faith formation.

The class will be held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday’s of the month. Three AMAZING couples have stepped up to mentor our kids in their faith: Gary & Alice Ward, Jonathan & Jennifer Johnson, and Anthony & Vikki Epps. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Megann!

We can’t wait to see you March 9th!!

The Last Fruit of the Spirit “Self-Control”

“Self-control is the chief of all virtues.” (Plato & Aristotle)

If we have “self-control”

then we can control our wants & our desires instead of them – controlling us.

No other fruit

is in more direct conflict with our culture than self-control.

“Disciple” - Greek “encrotos” “en” = in “crotos” = to rule

(to be ruled from within – or to have an inner strength)

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize?”

(1st Corinthians 9:24)

EVERY DAY it’s a battle IN our minds – FOR our minds, and IN our hearts – FOR our hearts.

Two natures beat within my breast, One is foul and one is blessed. One I love and one I hate,

But the one I feed will dominate.

“Like a city whose walls are broken down is the one who lacks self-control.”

(Proverbs 25:28)

“I have made a covenant with my eyes that I will not look lustfully upon another.”

(Job 31:1)

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.
