PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I am pleased to announce that AG (Dr) Michael Irving has been appointed District Governor for 2016/17. My sincere congratulations to Michael and Roz, and I have volunteered to serve during his term. I hope that our club will swing behind Michael and provide all the assistance he needs. We had our first induction of the year and I was so pleased to induct Rotarian Helen Moorfoot and my friend Rotarian Allan Thompson into our club. PDG Governors Heather and Ian Yarker was there to present their Rotary pin. Words cannot explain how happy I am. Last night we celebrated Rotary 109 years birthday and were fortunate to have both PDG Ian and Heather Yarker with us. They have show us what seemingly impossible can be made possible through Rotary. We are so privilege to have our own PDG (Dr) Graham Jones in our club. My year as President would not have been possible without his wisdom and guidance. It was another great night and thank you everyone for making this all possible.

ATTENDANCE AND SECRETARYS REPORT: G Jones Graham Jones advised that there were 24 members, 5 partners, 4 member’s guest and 4 visiting Rotarians for a total of 37 people Graham put forward a motion that Lambert be the Club nominee at the District Conference business meetings. Seconded by Gary Wachter, unanimously approved by the Club The Chairman then called on the President to conduct the induction of two new members- Helen Moorfoot (sponsored by Tony Pritchett) and Allan Thomson (sponsored by Lambert Wang). After going through the formalities Lambert called on PDG Heather Yarker to present the badges and pins. The Club then congratulated and welcomed the two into the fold. SERGEANT:

Sergeant Duncan Plastow raised money by fining Don for drinking red wine and Tony Stenton for destroying an indestructible golf tee. Most of the Club had to chip in after failing to name all of the three medal winners at the Winter Olympics. David was fined for kitchen mishaps and Andrew got fined for accepting quilts for a hot country. Sally Pritchett was fined for causing riots in foreign countries. The secret greeter turned out to be Ann Penfold, anybody who hadn’t greeted her had to cough up. The new concept of a secret greeter had everyone running around before the meeting greeting each other frantically. RAFFLE WINNER: Leanda HEADS/TAILS WINNER: Tony Pritchett GUEST SPEAKER: -. The guest speaker was Ian Yarker who took us through a journey of discovery of the wonders and benefits of being a Rotarian, not just personal benefits gained from the opportunity to do good but also benefits to society at large which, if it were not for Rotary, may never have received the help they needed. Ian spoke about the various projects he and Heather have been involved in and the countries they have visited. Ian added to the Rotary slogan – ‘Rotary brings people together who would not normally meet, to do things they can’t do alone’ in places they would normally never visit.

Heather made the poignant comment that Rotary work is ‘not all about the money’ but more about ‘Donations in Kind’ Ian’s presentation was ‘assisted’ by commentary from an E-Club meeting going on in the background on his laptop. A reminder for all members of how far Rotary has come in the last 109 years. For the two new members the presentation must have been a fascinating glimpse into the ways Rotary provides opportunities for making a difference. “Rotary takes ordinary people and gives them extraordinary opportunities to do more with their life than they ever dreamed possible” – Sir Clem Renouf Past Rotary International President Marion thanked the Yarkers and presented them with a certificate of appreciation The chairman then called on the president to close the meeting. Lambert announced that there were cupcakes to celebrate the 109

th birthday and the Club sang Happy Birthday as Lambert

blew out a symbolic candle. He then closed the meeting with the singing of the national anthem.

Lambert blows out the birthday candle Ian and Heather with Lambert

Thoughts for the week HE. Will you go out with me tonight? She. I’m sorry. I never go out with perfect strangers. He. Who said I was perfect? A Rabbi and a priest were offered a ham sandwich. The Rabbi declined and the priest chided, ”Come on , Rabbi, when are you going to become liberal enough to eat ham?” The Rabbi smiled and replied, ”At your wedding , Father.” Advice to married couple.....People who sleep like babies never have any. A famous heiress ran away with the milkman. She was gone three months and came back three months gone. After 10 years of marriage the brunette and olive skinned husband gave birth to a red haired child. The upset parents went to the doctor for an explanation. “How often in the last ten years have you two made love?” asked the doctor. “Only once,” replied the husband. “That’s the problem ,” said the doctor, “rust.” There is much anxiety about creating life in the laboratory. It really is not difficult if the lab assistant is pretty and willing. My wife has a better sense of judgement than I have........ she chose me as her husband. A child came home from school to tell concerned parents that the teacher had given them a lesson on sex. “ What was it like?” asked the worried parents. “Pretty useless. We only had the theory today!”

I shall take you to bed and have my way with you. I will make you ache, shake and sweat until you moan and groan. I will make you beg for mercy, beg for me to stop.

I will exhaust you to the point that you will be relieved when I'm finished with you. And, when I am finished, you will be weak for days.

All my love, The Flu
