He was born north of Hanover in 1938. He has 1 brother and 3 sisters that he worked on his family farm with growing up. He was the oldest of his siblings. They harvested crops such as corn, wheat, barley, and hay. They also had cattle and Hogs. He went to Lancaster Mennonite for 1 year before returning to the family farm to work until he was about 20 years old. It was Miriam who caught his eye. They had been friends since childhood but decided that they wanted to get to know each other better. They started dating for about 1 year before they married. They moved about to many dairy farms around Pa through there adult years until he bought the family farm, where he was born and raised. John was also a Pastor for Bair Church on 116 here in Hanover. He is very devoted and has great pride in his trip to Israel, Germany, Switzerland, and Holland where he studied for ministry. Him and Miriam have 5 children, 24 grandchildren, and 7 great-grand children. We are happy to have John as a member of our Cottage. SAVE THE DATE Celebration is August 26th, 2017 11:00am to 2:00pm. Limiting 2 guests per resident. Message from the President of Columbia Cottage Take Deep Breaths The other day, I came across a note from an unknown author that is worth sharing. It stated,” When your world seems like too much to handle, just take a deep breath and laugh. It clears the mind and frees your spirit.” It seems so simple, but when in the heat of the moment, certainly proves to be challenging. I can state first hand that stopping to take deep breaths refreshes you. It helps you recoup, think more clearly, and redirects your efforts. To improve your health, experts say that you should take deep breaths every day. Breathing deeply helps dispose carbon dioxide and prevents toxins from building up. Deep breaths also keep the lungs pure and increase the flow of clean blood, which benefits nerves, brain, spinal cord, and heart muscles. Wow, I can’t believe that I remembered all of that from my Physical Education days… So, with that all said, I encourage us all to live in the moment and enjoy all that the Good Lord has blessed us with. - Jim Our newsletters are available online! Message from the President of Columbia Cottage

Take DeepBreaths

The other day, I came across a note from

Hello, My name is Dana Powell. I am the Resident Wellness Director for the Hanover Cottage. I became a CNA in the early 90’s. I worked in facilities for a while then stated doing home care. In 2002 I decided I wanted to be able to do more so I talked to my husband about going to nursing school. He was very supportive. St. Patrick’s Day Party

The residents here at the Cottage got started early by celebrating St Patrick’s Day with a toast at lunch.

We read some poems, shared some Limricks and had a toast to St Patrick.

The celebrations continued through out the afternoon with green snacks, and green drinks and lots of laughs.

The residents told stories of their past St Patty’s Days events and memories. We also shared Trivia of St Patty’s Day and it traditions.

Poems were read, songs were sung, and more memories were made here at the Cottage.
