PHOTOGRAPHER: The BGV Club will be taking photographs of all principal winners and breed class winners for the BGV Club Website. Pictures may be purchased for a small fee in aid of BGV Club Rescue.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RIGHTS: The Organisers would like to bring the regulation on photography and filming to the attention of exhibitors, trade stands, press and visitors. It is a condition of all those attending the event that no filming or other form of recording may be taken or made at the venue without express written permission of the organisers. The taking of photographs in the venue for sale or reward is strictly prohibited except with the written permission of the Organisers. Press accredited photographers are provided with permission to take photographs ONLY for use in newspapers, magazines and internet sites - this is for news purposes only. There is no objection to the general public taking photographs or video film of general views of the Show, provided that these are for private use only. Specific dogs may be photographed only with the approval of the exhibitor.

No photography or filming is permitted in breed judging rings whilst judging is actually taking place. However, judges may allow it to happen at the end of classes or after the Challenge Certificate is awarded. Filming and flash photography is allowed from outside the rings at all times unless the operation of the camera is actually affecting exhibits. However, if a powerful flash unit is used or it is clear that exhibits are being affected, a ring steward or the judge is empowered to stop the person concerned. Cinematography or television equipment may only be used at the Show if a permit has been issued by the Organisers.

INTRODUCING OUR JUDGESMr E. Engh [Norway] — Born into a family where Greyhounds have been part of everyday life since 1955, Espen Engh has been very actively involved in the dogs from a very early age. The first litter carrying the prefix Jet’s was bred by Espen and his late mother Kari in 1975.The Jet’s are the top winning Greyhound kennel of all time, having made up 187 individual homebred champions with more than 670 champion titles in 60 different countries. Int Ch Jet’s Once Upon A Dream was Norway’s Dog of the Year in 2001, Int Ch Jet’s Something In The Way U Smile in 2003 and Ch Jet’s Just Take Me Home Tonight in 2013. He is pictured with four homebred BOB winners from FCI World shows.Espen has imported several International Champion Whippets and has also co-owned several Afghan Hounds champions with his life partner Åge Gjetnes. Their latest venture is Griffon Bruxellois where more Jet’s homebred champions have been made up, including the first ever English and American champion bitch in the breed.Espen was first approved to judge several hound breeds at championship show level in 1987 and was approved to judge all breeds in 2011. Judging appointments include 87 countries around the world. A veterinarian by education, Espen made his Doctoral Thesis at the Norwegian College of Veterinary Medicine and has been an associate professor of comparative medicine at the University of Oslo. Currently he is Director General of The National Committees for Research Ethics in Norway.

Mr J. Homem de Mello [Portugal] — I was born in Lisbon, Portugal. My parents bred dogs and I have lived with dogs since birth. I am married and I reside with my wife Teresa in a small village called Camaxide near Lisbon, where, since 1984, I have bred Basset Hounds under the ‘dos Sete Moinhos’ affix. At the present time I own 14 Bassets all of whom live in the house. This, in my opinion, is very important for a well adjusted dog as they can socialise with the family and any visitors.My hounds are based on European and American lines. I imported several dogs from the United States during the 1980s; this produced a very successful line. During the past 30 years I have bred 107 Champions in Europe, Scandinavia, South America, Latin America and India, 5 European Winners and 12 World Winners

Four of my most prestigious prizes were Best in Show at the 1995 World Show held in Brussels, with Ch Humphrey dos Sete Moinhos, the Collare D’Oro 2001 in Milan and Best in Show at the 2003 Helsinki Winner Show with Ch Come and Get Me dos Sete Moinhos who was also Top Dog of the Year All Breeds 2003 in Denmark.I have judged dogs worldwide, I’m recognised as an all-rounder under the Portuguese Kennel Club and under FCI I’m recognized to judge all breeds in Groups 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 and several breeds from Groups 1, 2 and 7, plus Best in Show.

Mr P. Freer (Switherland) — I have been involved in the world of dogs; exhibiting, judging and breeding since 1980.Basset Hounds are my principal breed, having made up a total of 41 UK Champions in the breed, of which 33 are homebred. I have won over 250 Challenge Certificates in the breed. The Switherland Kennel is the #1 Basset Hound Kennel in the UK based on the most Champions made up and Challenge Certificates won in the breed. Switherland have been top breeder in the breed in the UK for 23 of the last 24 years. My second love is Basset Griffon Vendéen (Petit). I was first introduced to the breed by Nick Frost (Dehra) in the late 1980s. My first Champion in the breed came in 1997 and was owned in partnership with Julie Shelton, Ch Chantalle’s Asticot at Dehra bred by Diana Nichols. Ch Willowbrae As You Like it bred by Judith Robin Smith and owned by myself and my partner Marita Rodgers still holds the male breed record for the number of CCs won. Homebred Ch Switherland Yatis took CC & Best of Breed at Crufts in 2006 going on to Hound Group 2. I have made up a total of 10 Champions and won over 50 Challenge Certificates in the breed. I was elected as Chairman of the BGV Club (UK) in 2004 until I retired in 2007.I award Challenge Certificates in 6 Hound breeds in the UK and have bred, owned or shown all the breeds I award CCs in. I also judge the Hound Group at Championship show level in the UK. At Open Show level, I judge all Hound breeds along with all Groups and Best in Show.I have been fortunate to have been invited to judge internationally in the following countries: Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Finland, Germany, USA, Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic. I am very much looking forward to judging Best in Show at this the BGVC Championship Show, and feel it an honour to be asked when we have two very well respected breed judges.

Mr R.F. Ellingford (Klugmaud/Afterglow) — My first show dog was a Weimaraner I got in 1990, winning Open Show BISs, RCCs and Stud Book numbers with 6 dogs/bitches

under the Klugmaus affix. I served on the Weimaraner Association committee and first awarded CCs in 2008. Having fallen in love with the PBGV at WKC in 1995, I got Ir/Am Ch Afterglow Errol Flynn Among Klugmaus from the Afterglow kennel in 2001. In 2003 Mike Gadsby invited me to breed under the Afterglow affix. We have bred Ch dogs/bitches in 8 different countries. We have won CCs and RCCs with 3 PBGVs including Ch/Am Ch Afterglow Ebeneezer. We have also made up 2 Irish Champions.Having passed the breed assessment, I am on the B List for PBGVs; I’m on the B list for Pharaoh Hounds and C list for GBGVs. I’ve been actively involved in breed rescues and have run ringcraft training classes.

Mrs Denise Garratt (Caryna) — My involvement with dogs in the Show world began way back in the 70s when I successfully showed Irish Setters, I attended a local Limit Show and instantly fell in love with a breed there that I found out were Saluki – I just had to have one. After waiting for nearly two years, I found the perfect bitch for me so started the “Caryna” Saluki. I have now bred several Champions in the breed, holding the breed record for the Top Bitch, Ch Caryna Hera JW, for three years running. I have also owned and showed Whippets, Afghans, Borzoi and Standard Dachshund successfully at Championship Show level over a number of years.Being in the Hound group, I was taken by the variety and size of this group and I was drawn to the BGV as they are such happy characters that take your eye when they enter the ring. I attended the World Congress when it came to Newark. I also attended the GBGV Seminar/Assessment in 2002 and the Basset Griffon Vendéen Grand and Petit in 2012. I first started judging back in 1984 and have done several classes and gone over many BGV when I have done Variety classes. I watched the breed both in and out of the show ring with great interest.I am passed to award CCs in Saluki and Borzoi and I thank the BGV Club Committee and the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over and judge this very special breed.

• DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES •In the following definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title of Champion under the Rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows. In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in Members' classes or competing for Members' Specials each partner must at the time of entry be a member of the Society. In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh day before the date of closing of entries shall be counted when entering for any class i.e. Saturday, 11th October 2014. Wins in Variety classes do not count for entry in Breed classes but when entering for Variety classes, wins in both Breed and Variety classes must be counted. A First Prize does not include a Special Prize of whatever value.If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, the exhibitor may choose one of the following options: (1) Withdrawal The dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of Regulations 9(j) and 20. (2) Transfer a) If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its breed, colour, sex, weight or height the Show

Secretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and, in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted, to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

b) For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy class, Puppy class or Junior class, which is over age but under twelve calendar months of age, eighteen calendar months of age or twenty four calendar months of age respectively, the Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy class, Junior class or Yearling class respectively for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being no Puppy, Junior or Yearling class to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

c) For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

d) If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dog may not be transferred to any other class.

MINOR PUPPY For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.

PUPPY For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.JUNIOR For dogs of six and not exceeding eighteen calendar months of age on the first day of the Show.YEARLING For dogs of twelve and not exceeding twenty four calendar months of age on the first day of

the Show.POST GRADUATE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or 5 or more First Prizes at

Championship Shows in Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit, Limit and Open Classes whether restricted or not where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed.

MID LIMIT For dogs which have not become show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won 5 or more First Prizes in all at Championship Shows in Mid Limit, Limit or Open classes, confined to the breed, whether restricted or not, at Shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed.

LIMIT For dogs which have not become show Champions under Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won 7 or more First Prizes in all at Championship Shows in Limit and Open classes, confined to the breed, whether restricted or not, at Shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed.

OPEN For all dogs of the breeds for which the class is provided and eligible for entry at the Show.VETERAN For dogs of not less than seven years of age on the first day of the Show.BREEDERS For dogs bred by the exhibitor.SPECIAL AWARD CHAMPION CLASS For dogs which have been confirmed a Champion.ADVISORY NOTICENOT FOR COMPETITION Societies may at their discretion, accept Not for Competition entries. Societies

may accept such entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day, such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed.

• RULES & REGULATIONS • 1. The Show will open at 9.00 am. 2. Dogs will be received at any time but it is the exhibitors responsibility to ensure that exhibits are

available for judging when required. 3. Judging will commence at 9.30 am. 4. Exhibits may be removed from the Show after their judging has been completed. The Show will

close half an hour after all judging has been completed. 5. The use of cooking stoves in the proximity of the tenting and benching areas is forbidden except

as authorised by the Show Management. 6. Entry Fees: Members: First entry per dog £15.00; each subsequent class with same dog £5.00.

Non-Members: First entry per dog £20.00; each subsequent class with same dog £5.00. Junior Handling: £5.00 per entry. Not for Competition: £5.00 per dog (over 4 calendar months of age). Catalogue: £3.50 pre-paid with entry; £4.00 on the day (free if 5 or more dogs entered for competition). Advertisements: £15.00 Full Page; £8.50 Half Page (to include one photo).

7. There is no Prize Money on offer at this Show. 8. The Committee reserves to itself the right to refuse entries. 9. Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the Show are not eligible for

exhibition. 10. The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden. 11. Best Puppy in Show a. Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy

which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same Show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed or Best in Show is a puppy it will also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Similarly, if the Reserve Best of Breed or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it will also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best of Breed and Best in Show respectively. Best Puppy in Show must be selected from puppies which have been judged and which are unbeaten by any other puppy.

b. Withdrawal from Other Competition: Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than breed classes and Best Puppy in Breed, prior to the competition for Best Puppy in Show as appropriate, in order to remain unbeaten. A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Puppies may be withdrawn from Any Variety Classes when judged before Breed Classes.

c. Proviso: For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.

12. Best in Show a. The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which has competed and is unbeaten by any other dog

exhibited at the same Show. Best in Show must be selected from all unbeaten winning dogs. Reserve Best on Show must be selected from the remaining Best of Breed(s) and the dog/bitch declared by the judge to be Reserve Best of Breed to the dog declared Best in Show.

b. Withdrawal from Other Competition: Dogs which become eligible for Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition other than breed classes and Best of Breed prior to the competition for Best in Show in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Dogs may be withdrawn from Any Variety Classes when judged before Breed Classes.

c. Proviso: For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs.

13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management.

14. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.

15. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition.

16. All dogs resident outside of the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor.

17. Dogs in Cars on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is

on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good

idea at all.• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with

lots of water available to drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around

the dog.• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.• Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have

plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for

extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could

lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulations to refuse any entry.

18. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered.

19. The committee will not be responsible for the entire or partial loss or injury to any dog, or any property whatsoever, whether arising from accident, or any other cause, or from any act or omission of themselves, their officers, agents or others. Entries are accepted on this understanding only.

20. Exhibitors/spectators will be held responsible for any damage to property or equipment within the environs of the show venue caused by their children or children in their care. Entries are accepted on this understanding only.

21. The committee can accept no responsibility for products advertised or sold by stand holders at the show and remind exhibitors that grooming products on sale may not meet the requirements of the Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition.

22. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches.

23. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event).

24. Should any judge be prevented from fulfilling his or her engagement, the committee reserve the right to appoint another judge or judges in their place. Exhibitors may withdraw from competition but no entry fees can be returned.

25. A dog may be disqualified by the General Committee from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been: a) registered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled Judge, this shall not apply to a Judge appointed in an emergency; b) exhibited without payment of appropriate entry fees.

26. Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number.

The Breeders’ Competition offers the following Awards:

Book from the Kennel Club or from the show secretary.2. The Breeder enters for the award in his/her name and is responsible for arranging which

exhibits form their breeder group, or team.3. The Breeder must complete the Record Book accurately with all necessary details before

presenting it to the show organisers.4. The Breeder is responsible for obtaining the necessary authority to compete from the show

organisers(ordesignatedofficialsuchastheRingSteward)tocompetefortheaward.5. The Breeder’s team must consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of four dogs of the

same breed, all of which must be entered in a class at the show.6. A Breeder may enter more than one team per show.7. All dogs must have the same registered breeder.8. The ‘beaten dog’ rule will NOT apply.9. BestBreederinBreedandBestBreederinAVNSCClassesgoesthroughtoaBestBreederin

Group award.10. Breeders acquire points in competition over a calendar year as follows:

The Breeders who have amassed a minimum of 25 points over a calendar year will qualify for the Final/Semi-Finalinthefollowingyear.Itisnotarequirementtowithdrawfromthecompetitionuponreaching 25 points. At the end of the competition year in question, Breeders should forward their record books to the Canine Activities Department at the Kennel Club which will advise whether they havequalifiedfortheCruftsFinal.
