Celebrated National Productivity Week-2017 ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut National Productivity Week was celebrated at ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerutduring 12-18 th February,2017 with the theme “From Waste to Profits through Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’’. Various activities were organized at institute level to sensitize people to work in the area of the theme. The week long activities carried out during the period are mentioned below 1. Painting, Slogan and Essay writing competition at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Punjab Lines, Meerut Cantt.: Painting, Slogan and Essay writing competition was organized at KendriyaVidyalaya, Punjab Lines, Meerut Cantt. on 13 th February, 2017 in the theme ‘From Waste to Profits through Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’. Around one hundred students participated in the competition. Three different competitions Painting, Slogan and Essay writing were organised for students of classes from 5 th to 12 th . From each competition three best participants 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd were selected and awarded prizes and certificates. Celebrated National Productivity Week-2017 ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut

National Productivity Week was celebrated at ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle,

Meerutduring 12-18th February,2017 with the theme “From Waste to Profits through Reduce,

Recycle and Reuse’’. Various activities were organized at institute level to sensitize people to

work in the area of the theme. The week long activities carried out during the period are

mentioned below

1. Painting, Slogan and Essay writing competition at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Punjab

Lines, Meerut Cantt.:

Painting, Slogan and Essay writing competition was organized at KendriyaVidyalaya, Punjab

Lines, Meerut Cantt. on 13th February, 2017 in the theme ‘From Waste to Profits through

Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’. Around one hundred students participated in the competition.

Three different competitions Painting, Slogan and Essay writing were organised for students

of classes from 5th to 12th. From each competition three best participants 1st, 2nd, and 3rd were

selected and awarded prizes and certificates. Dr. Ravinder Kumar and Dr. Naresh Prasad

coordinated the competition with the help of KendriyaVidyalaya teaching staffs.

A three-day training program was organized on the subject “Scientific Dairy Farming of

Cattle” for various farmers and stakeholders from February 14 to 16, 2017 at ICAR-CIRC,

Meerut. A total of 15 farmers (12 from Uttar Pradesh and 3 from Haryana) participated in the

training programme. The topics covered in the training are

Indian cattle breeds & their productivity,

Breed identification/purchasing of animal/commercialization under field condition,

Balance Diet of Cattle, Balanced Ration Formulation,

Semen preservation techniques/ theory and practical,

Preparation of vermi-compost (practical),

Management of high yielder cows and calf’s,

Common disease of cattle: their prevention and control/practical on first aid/ vaccination

and mastitis detection and

Reproductive disorders and its management

Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Shrikant Tyagi, Dr. Umesh Singh, Dr. Suresh Kumar, Dr. Pramod

Singh, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Dr. A.S. Sirohi, Dr. Naimi Chand, Dr.

Naresh Prasad delivered lecture during the training and satisfied the queries of the

participating farmers. During the training we have also discussed on the theme “From Waste

to Profits through Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’’.

3. Workshop and Guest Lecture by Smt. Anita Rana, Director, Janhit Foundation,

NGO, Meerut

A workshop was organized at the institute on 16th February, 2017 on the theme“From Waste

to Profits through Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’’.Director CIRC Dr. B. Prakash highlighted

the theme of the workshop for increasing the income and profit of farmers. During the

workshop Smt. Anita Rana, Director, Janhit Foundation, NGO delivered a lecture on the

theme. The Participants of the workshop included all employees of ICAR-CIRC,

stakeholders, farmers and students. Innovative and effective ways of making profits from

waste by means of 3R’s (reduce, recycle and reuse) were discussed. Dr. Ravinder and Dr.

Naresh Prasad coordinated the programme

4. Meeting-cum Productivity/Innovation Award ceremony program at Bhalsona

village of Meerut district (UP):

One day meeting-cum award ceremony program was organized at Bhalsona villages of

Meerut district (UP). The meeting cum training programme was chaired by Dr B. Prakash,

Director,ICAR-CIRC. Participants of training program were farmers and stakeholders of

Bhalsona, Jangethi and Pohlli villages. The lectureson scientific animal keeping and efficient

utilization of dairy waste for enhanced profitability were delivered by Dr B. Prakash, Dr.

Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Shrikant Tyagi, Dr Suresh Kumar DS on the topics viz; breeding,

feeding and health care. Productivity/Innovation awards and certificates were given to three

progressive farmersnamely Sh. Maganvir Singh (village -Bhalsona), Sh. Amit Kumar

(village-Jangethi), and Sh. Vikash Chaudhary (village-Pohalli) for good work in the area of

waste management, profitable dairying and mango farming in the local area. The programme

was coordinated by Dr Ravinder Kumar and Dr Naresh Prasad.

The valedictory function of National Productivity Week celebration was organized under the

chairmanship of Director Dr. B. Prakash. Dr. Ravinder Kumar welcomed the guests and

briefed the audience regarding the objectives for celebration and activities undertaken by the

institute in this direction. Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Principal Scientist described in detail about the

methodology for generating profit from waste management by reduce, recycle and reuse.

Dr.U. Singh, Principal Scientist described the methodology for waste water treatment for

beneficial application in animal husbandry. Certificates and awards were distributed to the

winners of the Painting, Slogan and Essay writing competition by the chief guest. He

highlighted the importance of the theme in making Swachh Bharat and income generation

from waste. He urged the people to segregate the bio-degradable waste from non-

biodegradable items at the source level for their separate uses. He spoke about various types of

compost, vermi-compost and types of microbes for their quick decomposition. Dr.Prakash

urged all the staffs to work in mission mode so that our environment may be rendered clean

and healthy along with generating additional income from the waste materials for which our

general perception is that these waste have zero economic values. Dr.Ravinder Kumar and

Dr.Naresh Prasadcoordinated the program.
