Directors Message

Tuesday November 15, 2011 We had a very good meeting with three potential members present. In addition to our elections John Dyke set up John Armstrong to speak to us on transmissions and rebuilding them. He brought in some of the transmission parts and explained how they worked. I know everyone enjoyed it because of the questions asked by many of the members present. Check the Secretaries notes for the new officers and Board mem-bers. Please contact Garry Toulson if you are planning to attend the Christmas party. See the Secretaries notes. Richard Brewbaker has set up our Christmas lights tour. Its always fun for the family. See tours for more information. As you know this is the last news letter for the year. I would like to take this time to thank all the officers and directors for their support this year. Some will be staying on for next year and some new positions are being filled by others. I am looking forward to working with all of you next year. During the year I have asked everyone interested to send me pic-tures of some of their cars by “E” mail or by regular mail. I would like to have a picture of your car on the front of our News Letter on your Birth month, so now is the time to send them to me along with a short note as to the year and model. A short note with some facts and history about the car would also be appreciated.

Keep driving those Buicks

Sheridan Bishop III Director.

Wallys Shop has worked on many of our cars, new and old, and has a excellent reputation for good work and fair prices. Send your family and friends to Wally for their service needs.

Just a short note from Click and Clack.

Lots of drivers think they are benefiting their engine or the environment by occasionally “treating” their car to premium gas. That’s hogwash Modern engines that don't require premium gas don’t benefit from it in any way. And in fact, most experts say excess octane creates more pollution. So, unless your owners manual specifically calls for the use of premium gas, don’t bother. Regular gas is better for the environ-ment...and your wallet.

Thank you John Armstrong for the great talk you gave at our November meeting and thank you John Dyke for setting up this speaker.

Over the years I have used Sihilling for many of my chrome and polishing needs. Several of you have seen parts from my 1959 Buick, and my 1957 Thunderbird. More recently other members have been taking their parts here.. Two of the reasons I prefer Sihilling is their high quality work and their no hassle guarantee on the rare occasion when there is a problem. Sheridan Bishop III Editor

This article appeared in the November 2011 Auto Restorer on page 4.

Many of us have used these companies in the past with good results. This person was looking for a plating shop and to restore the engine on his 1952 Pontiac This is in your response to the August letter from Bob Mendoza looking for a plating shop and engine shop for his 1952 Pontiac. For our 1950 Pontiac straight 8 we used L&R Automotive supplies in Santa Fe springs, Cali-fornia. They did all the machine work; Egge Machine Co., also in Santa Fe Springs, supplied parts. You can save some money by doing your own assembly or L&R will do it. We have put about 10,000 trouble-free miles on the Pontiac (L&R: 562-802-0442 and Egge: 866-984-3443). You might try Orange County plating in Orange, California (714-532-4510. Tom Gault, retired auto instructor Mammoth High School Mammoth Lakes, California

For those of us that work, or are considering work-ing on our cars here is a list of torque specs. Every fastener (nut, bolt, etc) has a torque value, from door hinges to head bolts. This list is a small part of information provided to me be Jim Anderson.

A NOTE FROM

YOUR EDITOR

Thank you Jim, and all of you that have sent me pic-tures or text that appear in our news letter. When you send me text or pictures, by mail or by computer, please make sure all the information is clear so I can transfer it easily, If not I may put it on the back burner until I feel the urge to retype the entire article. I have learned much about com-puters and publishing this year, but there are still much for me to learn, so good art work and text

helps. I need to thank

my cosine Roy

Caputo who helps

teach me correct and

faster ways to create

the news letter.
