Hurricane Irma has come, and Hurricane Irmahas also gone Mash’Allaah. Allah Akbar! Thewinds have come, the winds have gone; butthe signs of ALLAH SWT should still be in ourhearts. You see brothers and sisters, ALLAH Fahad MirzaSWT presents us an infinite amount of signs on a daily basis.ALLAH SWT, in HIS (SWT) Qudrat (might), in his power, HE(SWT) has many different ways in teaching us lessons. Someexamples being sickness, death, problems, disasters, calami-ties, difficulties. Sometimes, things happen in our lives, andthey may be a means to putting us back on the straight path.Sometimes things happen in our lives as difficulties as a test,for ALLAH SWT to keep us on the Sirat-tul-mustaqeem (straightpath) because we have everything. So hence, the reason whythese things become our trials and test to strengthen our Imaan(faith) and make us a better people. We have just gone throughthe hurricane, and some of us are cleaning up our houses,fixing and repairing what needs to be fixed and repaired, someof us are waiting for our electricity to be put back on and thereis much to do; but, did we ponder over the Qudrat (might) ofAllah SWT during the days of the Hurricane? I know whilemost people, and the millions of people were worried aboutflooding, electricity, repairing their homes. It’s interesting howperspective is important. I was in South Korea when Hurri-cane Irma was in Florida, and I had a different picture in mymind. I was following the Hurricane and monitoring the newsstations, but my perspective and vision was different. I waswatching the Friday Khutbah online and I also saw that a lotmore people came to Jumah Salah on time, probably becausethey wanted to pray in advance that the Hurricane doesn’t hitthem. The Hurricane has gone, and people have gone back totheir old ways ‘ Innal Insaana Li Rabihi LaQanood” - AllahSWT knows that human beings are ungrateful to Allah SWT.We have benefited by the bounty of Allah SWT that we havedodged the hurricane, instead of going towards South Florida,it went out West Florida. Do we make shukr to Allah SWT?How many people prayed (2) rakats to thank Allah SWT thatHE (SWT) has saved us from the hurricane?! I’m sure manyof us were praying before, “Ya Allah (SWT), save us!” Afterthe hurricane has passed, people were saved, their homes weresaved, and their cars were saved, their families were saved;did we really pray (2) rakats salah to thank Allah SWT?! Thisreminds me of Rasoolullah (SAW), when the Sahabas (RA)would ask him (SAW); Ya Rasoolullah (SAW), your feet areso swollen in praying Salah [Nafl salah, not the Fards]. Whydo you have to pray so much when your past sins, presentssins and future sins are all forgiven?! Rasoolullah (SAW) an-swered, “Should I not at least make the shukr (gratefulness,thankfulness) to Allah SWT?”

The Hanafis, Shafi’is and the Malikis holdthat if the number of dissentients be notlarge, then the majority view though notabsolute, is valid and of binding authority.The reason for unanimity is that whereas

an individual jurist is liable to err, unanimity is a quality thatraises presumption of infallibility in a favour of the entire body.According to Hanafis, Malikis and generally Shafi’is an ijma iscomplete after the jurists of an age have had sufficient time todeliberate and then arrived at an agreement. The version ofHanbal and some Shafi’ doctors is that it is not complete untilall of the jurists who arrived at a conclusion are dead withoutany one having withdrawn his assent or changed his opinion.The general view of the Sunni School is that a question de-cided by ijma cannot be reopened by individual jurists of thesame or subsequent age unless the decision is one in which aparticular jurist had differed. Ijma of an age may be reversedor repealed by a subsequent ijma of the same age and an ijmaof one age may be repealed by an ijma of a subsequent ageexcept an ijma arrived at by the companions of the Prophet,which is unrepealable and as such incapable of being repealedlater. A decision constituted by ijma may be expressed in wordsknown or by practice of the jurists called (fa’ili). In both casesit can either be regular or irregular. If the mujtahids severallydeclare their opinion in words, the ijma so constituted will beregular. But if some observe silence without expressing dis-sent, it will be irregular. Similarly in the case of ijma by prac-tice if the mujtahids adopt a particular view of the law, it willbe regular, and if some do not indicate dissent it will be irregu-lar. Some Hanafi doctors make no difference between regularand irregular ijma, but some Shafi’s, some Malikis, someMu’tazilis and the Zahiris do not recognize the validity of ir-regular ijma at all. As to the number of jurists participating inthe deliberations, Hanafis and Malikis do not consider that thenumber should be large. But some say that it should not be lessthan two.QIYAS - Qiyas or analogy is a source of law for the applica-bility of which the basis is reason, logic or opinion. This wasnecessitated by occurrence of new cases due to passage oftime and expansion of the Islamic State and was a develop-ment on individual free thought, ra’y, through more systematicreasoning on the existing sources viz; Qur’an and Sunnah. Allthe four Sunni Schools are agreed that in matters not providedfor by a Qur’anic text or tradition nor determined by consen-sus of opinion, law may be deduced from what has been laiddown by any of the other three authorities by the use of Qiyas.The function of analogy is stretched to extension of the law ofthe texts to cases not falling within the purview of its terms.

WITHIN YOUAs I sit here to reflect and write this articlefor Al-Hikmat, I am keenly aware that here in

The Keys, throughout Florida, in many places throughout ournation and clearly world-wide, there have been calamities thathave affected the lives of many, many people. There is suffer-ing, pain, despair, attempts at recovery and much Post Trau-matic Stress Syndrome. Yet, I cannot help but also be aware ofthe many, many people who have stepped forward to offerhelp and assistance. More so, much of this help has come frompeople of different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds than thoseof the people they are assisting. Such is very encouraging. How-ever, when things begin to settle, and “near normal” begins tounfold, will we remember the healing hands of a neighbor whoperhaps holds some different thoughts, beliefs and philosophiesthan we do. How do we react and can this/these tragedies betransformative rather than devisive. From the beginning of time,we have records of humanity’s attempts to destroy one an-other. Yet, also from the beginning of time, we know of indi-viduals and groups that have risen as beacons of light amidstand despite such negativity. What makes the difference? I re-member hearing a wise tale that a grandfather shared with hisbeloved grandson. His grandson adored him, and often sat ashis feet to hear his many stories. This time the grandfathersaid, “You must always remember my son, that there are twowolves living within you. One is evil, filled with hatred, jeal-ously, prejudice and who wants to always inflict harm. Theother is good, filled with kindness, forgiveness, understand-ing, mercy and who always wants to be a source of peace.“The young boy thought long and hard, and then questionedhis grandfather: “If these two wolves are within me, and theyare so different, which of the two will eventually win and takecontrol.” The grandfather responded, “The one you feed.”Which one do we feed? I believe our answer might allow us torespond properly to the question about how we can make adifference in a world that continues to witness both sides ofhumanity. As I sit here this day and reflect on past devastation(s)I believe the answer lies within each and every one of us. As Ireflect on the devastations of war, another particular instancesurfaces that occurred during WWII, the bombing of Coven-try Cathedral in England. I am also keenly aware of that faithcommunity’s response that led to the development of the “Com-munity of the Cross of Nails.” Rather than seek vengeanceupon their aggressors, they decided to ask for reconciliation.

“O you who have believed, let not a peopleridicule [another] people; perhaps they may

be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women;perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult oneanother and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames.Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one’s] faith. Andwhoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrong-doers. [Qur’an 49:11] Abu Huraira (RA) reported: A bedouinurinated in the mosque, and the people rushed to beat him.Allah’s Messenger (SAW) ordered them to leave him and poura bucket or a tumbler (full) of water over the place where hehad passed urine. The Prophet then said, “You have been sentto make things easy (for the people) and you have not beensent to make things difficult for them.” The Prophet Muhammad(SAW) said: “Anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Dayshould not harm his neighbor, and anybody who believes inAllah and the Last Day should entertain his guest generously,and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day shouldtalk what is good or keep quiet”. (I.e. abstain from all kinds ofevil and dirty talk).” (Al-Bukhari) When a Christian delegationfrom Ethiopian churches came to Medina, the Prophet openedup his mosque for them to stay in, hosted them generously,and personally served them meals. He said: They were gener-ous to our companions, so I wish to be generous to them inperson…”narrated by Abu Hurayrah, Sahih Al Bukhari, Vol: 8Hadith 47. The above event leads right into the next incident,which happened recently at a local masjid. During Ramadan,just before breaking fast in the masjid, a young woman walkedover to the area where many sisters were waiting to break theirfast. This young woman was not a muslim, and was not wear-ing a hijab. As she went to enter the door of the masjid, theseresponsible sisters started talking about her loudly, staring ather and then one of them verbally attacked the young womanyelling at her “to get out of here, you don’t belong here”. Theseinsults literally brought this young woman to tears. She wasfrozen in utter disbelief and embarrassment, while the sisterscontinued to insult her. Thankfully, some other kindhearted sis-ters came to her aid to talk and comfort her. Choking back hertears, the young woman explained that she came to find outmore about Islam. She did not know that she had to wear thehijab, before entering the mosque. The compassionate sistersreassured her that this behavior from the antagonistic sisterswas unacceptable and definitely not tolerated in Islam. Theyoung woman gently said, she did not want to come back tothe mosque and she walked away. Now, let us step back andask ourselves, were the sisters pleased with their actions?

ALLAAH (SWT) ALLAAH (SWT) ALLAAH (SWT) ALLAAH (SWT) ALLAAH (SWT)There are many Muslims, who believe that Allaah SWT expectsnothing more from them, than to go through the daily, weeklyand yearly rituals, without stretching themselves and makingsacrifices for the sake of their communities and for others indistress. These Muslims seem to think, that their prayer, theirfasting and Hajj alone will earn the pleasure of Allaah SWT andsecure their place in paradise. Some of them even become sooutwardly pious and self-righteous, that their main pleasure isto debate the finer details of some minor issue, quoting Quranand Hadíth at length. It is, as if their concern for these tinytechnicalities will somehow make up for their lack ofinvolvement with the real pressing problems of the day. Thesepeople are what we might call, formal Muslims, because theyare more concerned about the form, than with the substance,of Islam. Can they be right? Is this attitude enough? Will AllaahSWT accept us as mere formal Muslims? Can we really attainthe goal of truly righteous Believers by only observing ourprayers in a narrow, formal way, and caring for little else? InSurah Al Baqara, 2:v177 we read, “It is not righteousness thatyou turn your faces toward East or West. But it is righteousnessto believe in Allaah SWT and the Last Day and the Angels andthe Book and the Messengers. To spend of your substance outof love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, forthe wayfarer, for those who ask and for the ransom of slaves;to be steadfast in prayer and to practice regular charity. Tofulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm andpatient in pain (or suffering) and adversity and throughout allperiods of panic. Such are the people of truth the Allaah SWT-fearing.” In one beautiful, sweeping and inspiring verse, weare told precisely, what “righteousness” really means. The trulyrighteous Muslim, is not one who simply faces east or west inritual prayer. It is one whose whole life has been dedicated tothe service of Allaah SWT, and of all His creatures. A truebeliever’s heart is full of fear and reverence and respect for hisLord. These are the qualities of Al Muttaqee, one whose heartis full of taqwa. We must believe sincerely in all that AllaahSWT teaches us through his Books and Messengers. And then,just as important, we must carry out those beliefs. We musttranslate them into Action. Without action, our beliefs have nomeaning. Doing our duties to Allaah SWT, therefore, cannot beseparated from doing our duties to our fellow human beings.For this reason, we find that in no less than 18 places The HolyQur’an uses the expression: “Establish the prayer, and practiceregular charity.” The one is a duty we owe to Allaah SWT, theother is a duty we owe to our fellow human beings.


DEPRESSIONSOF THE

FAITHLESS SOCIETY

God declares in the Qur’an that He has cre-ated mankind according to a certain disposi-

tion: “So set you your face steadily and truly to the Faith: (es-tablish) God’s handiwork according to the pattern on whichHe has made mankind.” (Qur’an, 30:30) The disposition ofmankind relies on being a servant to God and having faith inHim. Since man is unable to meet his unlimited wishes andneeds by himself, he naturally needs to humble himself beforeGod and turn to Him. If the individual lives in accordance withthis disposition, he attains true confidence, peace, happinessand salvation. If he denies this disposition and turns away fromGod, he spends his life in distress, fear, anxiety and grief. Thisrule, which is true for man, also holds true for societies. If asociety is comprised of people who believe in God, it becomesa just, peaceful, happy and wise society. Unquestionably, theopposite also holds true. If a society is unaware of God, thenthe order of such a community is basically ruined, corrupt andprimitive. When societies that have turned away from God areexamined, this fact is readily seen. One of the most importantresults of irreligious thought is the abolishment of the conceptof morality and the development of completely corrupt societ-ies. In a society where people live only for the satisfaction oftheir own desires, it surely is not possible to maintain peace,love and amity. In such a society, human relations depend onmutual interests. An extreme feeling of distrust prevails. Whenthere is no reason for one to be sincere, honest, reliable orwell-behaved, nothing stands in the way of dissimulation, false-hood, or betrayal. The members of such societies have “castGod away behind their backs (with contempt)” (Qur’an, 11:92)and thus never acknowledged the fear of God. Since they can-not “make a just estimate of God,” they are unmindful of theday of judgement and the day of account. This situation natu-rally brings on the ethical degeneration and moral collapse thatwe see in many societies today. When every individual thinksof nothing but the satisfaction of his own needs and desires,everyone else, including his family and friends, have second-ary importance. Other individuals in society have no impor-tance whatsoever. Not knowing by whom, when or how mis-deeds will be committed in such a society, people live spiritu-ally in a condition of great fear and distress. General distrustand suspicion cause them to lead very unhappy lives. In a soci-ety where all kinds of moral values are disregarded, the out-look of people on notions such as family, honesty and chastityis quite alarming, for they have no fear of God.

Our Beloved Prophet (pbuh) was sent to guide us to love and tomake clear that love is the cornerstone of our religion. No reli-gion urges its followers to adopt mutual love and affection likethe religion of Islam. Islam encourages showing affection andlove towards each other at all times. Love in Islam is all-encom-passing; it is not restricted to one form only, which is love be-tween a man and a woman. At the center of it all is love for theAlmighty and His Messenger (pbuh), the Companions, may Hebe pleased with them and the love of good and righteous people.Islam enjoins the general concept of love between mankind aswell. This is first and foremost done by promoting the love ofthe Almighty amongst us. Learn to love that which the Almightyloves and do not stop remembering Him. Serve and worshipHim alone and don’t associate with Him any other and be everconscious of Him. Many of us find it easy to express love forthe Almighty verbally but unfortunately our actions don’t reflectthat love for Him. How can we claim to love Him when we takewhat He has revealed lightly, don’t follow His commands, andfail to behave in a way that pleases Him? Many times we findthat love missing from our hearts because our hearts are filledinstead with doubts, vain desires, and temptations of this tem-porary life. To counter these, we need to firm up our beliefs.We need a better overall spiritual perspective in order to counterdesires and temptations. We also need to clear those doubts thathinder the instilling of the love for the Almighty by learning moreabout our Deen and seeking knowledge from reliable and ap-proved sources. Many of us spend a lot of time and effort togain the love and pleasure of others and sometimes we may doit at the expense of disobeying the Almighty’s commands. Weshould realize that such things are futile and don’t last. Theywill earn us nothing but His wrath and displeasure. On the otherhand, if we focus on cultivating His love in our hearts, we willnot only get His love but He will instill our love in the hearts ofothers as well. Love is so central to Islam that without it therecan be no real faith. The relationship of love between us and ourCreator, between us and others, and between us and all of cre-ation is essential to reaching our full potential as human beings.When we nourish our hearts with love, when we manifest Hislove in our lives; with our families, with our friends, in our work,in our prayers, in everything that we do, the entire meaning oflife changes. May the Almighty bless us with His love and thelove of those who love Him. May He fill our hearts with love.Aameen.

It is common for seniors to believe thereis no purpose in beginning or continuing to exercise as they age.I am here to tell you, there is a great purpose. Let me help clarifysome of the myths associated with exercise and senior citizens,as well as give you some insight on the advantages physicalactivity can have on your body. I have too many hurdles toovercome. Consistent physical activity allows your body to de-crease, or in some cases even eliminate, the risk of health condi-tions and illness’ which may lead to increased medication intakeand frequent hospitalizations. While there are inevitable physicalaspects that will occur beyond your control, there are thingsthat you can improve such as your posture and weight. It’s toolate for me. It is never too late to improve your health. Sciencehas proven that elders who have taken up exercise in their lateryears show greater physical and mental improvements over theyounger generation. What if I fall? The positive factors associ-ated with physical fitness and seniors include the improvementof flexibility, endurance, strength and balance. As you build upyour bones, your balance becomes increasingly more stable,which lessens your chances of falls and other injuries that un-fortunately may occur often. You’re too tired to exercise? Exer-cise actually improves your ability to sleep and can provide youwith more energy. There’s just to much for me to do. You maynotice you are able to manage daily stress a lot better too. Toyour advantage, many of the diseases associated with aging maybe prevented simply from exercising. Start off with body weightbearing exercises and slowly increase resistance to ease yourbody. Walk a block and increase your distance and graduallyyour speed each day. Consistency is key. Everything hurts, Ican’t exercise. If you suffer from wounds, it has been notedthat with exercise, the wound-healing process speeds up. Con-sult with your doctor who can help you develop a personalizedexercise plan that will fit your needs. Your doctor will most likelyperform a physical examination on you and review your medi-cations to be certain exercise has no effect on the medicationsyou are taking. There is no excuse or boundary to physical fit-ness. Think of physical fitness as not just adding years to yourlife but adding life to your years. It is a good way to keep youmotivated and ready to get moving.

Ilm (knowledge) is a vital tool needed forthe success of Muslims if we are to shapethis world of ours. Many Muslims of cen-turies (7th to 13th) gone by took up such aresponsibility and lit the world with a daz-

zling array of discoveries and developments in the academicdomain of mathematics. Those centuries were regarded asthe golden age of Muslim learning. Towering above most as amathematician and known for his intellectual rigour was Al-Khwarizmi of the ninth century in the Arab world. His math-ematical treatise or work “Al-Jabr wa Al-Muqabala” (Book ofCalculations, Restoration and Reduction) was a pivitol pointin academia as from the book’s title (the phrase al jabr) thename algebra originated, hence him being known as the Fa-ther of Algebra. A translation of that algebra book by Al-Khwarizmi from Arabic to Latin was done in 1145 by Robertof Chester an Englishman. Al –Khwarizmi also authored manyother books in mathematics, one of them being an arithmetictext that was translated a few times. All of Khwarizmi’s math-ematical works were colossal in their influences. Another classmathematician was Al-Karaji, a Persian of the 10th century.His inputs ran the gamut of mathematics viz. arithmetic, alge-bra and geometry. The method of proof by mathematical in-duction was developed and made famous by him. Al- Kafi fiAl-Hisab’ (Essentials of Arithmetic) was one of two famousbooks written by him and which provided computational guide-lines or rules thus others’ claim of his arithmetization of alge-bra. In the 13th century came a brilliant mathematician fromPersia and he was Al-Tusi. Spherical trigonometry becamehis specialty. One should not forget the giant in mathematicsknown as Al-Biruni (973-1050 CE). Among his grandiose ac-complishments was his calculation of the earth’s circumfer-ence in a unique way. Straddling both fields of poetry andmathematics was a bulb that glowed in the early 12th centuryand one who was a versatile genius, Omar Khayyam. Thismathematician shone in algebraic geometry. However, OmarKhayyam was in many circles more recognized in the literarysphere of poetry. Other Muslim mathematicians who excelledwere ibn Qurra (9th century), ibn Sinan,and al-Uqlidisi (10th

century), al-Haytham (Alhazen) of the 11th century and the13th century pair of al-Farisi and al-Marrakushi. Since the ar-ticles focuses on mathematics, I would pose a problem ofthat nature to tickle one’s imagination: There are five num-bers A, B, C, D and E. The sum of the five numbers is dividedby the product of five specially selected factors (one suitablefactor chosen from each of the five numbers) and results in a1) Quotient of forty-two and a 2) Remainder that is equal to(Product of factors- Sum of factors).Find the five numbersA, B, C, D and E that will satisfy the conditions of 1) and 2)above in the problem. Let us all wet our feet in mathematicsto better understand and develop the world in which we live.

It is as though the two complement eachother. Prayer without active charity wouldbe an empty ritual, and charity that is notdone in the name of Allaah SWT wouldhave the wrong motive, and therefore beunworthy. We must “spend out of oursubstance, out of Love for Him…” andfor that reason alone. Not for any otherreason, not to massage our vanity, nor toimpress other people. Spending on Zakaat,Fitra and Sadaqa should be motivatedpurely by our deep sense of gratitude andLove for Allaah SWT. We must constantlyremind ourselves, that no matter howlearned or wealthy or successful wemight become, we entered this world withnothing, and we will leave it, with nothingexcept a record of our deeds. By spendingin the way of Allaah SWT, out of love forHim, we are simply following the naturalorder of things, just as the fruit treesblossom in our garden, spend their lovelyfragrance and delicious fruits freely onus. There is no other reason for theirexistence, but to glorify Allaah SWT, andto serve His creatures. It is the same withman. There is no other reason for ourexistence, but to glorify Allaah SWT, andto be of service to His creation. What aboutthose who deliberately refuse to spendtheir wealth, their time, their talents andskills, in a way that pleases Allaah SWT?They range from the frugal, cautious withmoney types to those who are downrightselfish, stingy & miserly. What has theQur’an to say about them? In the lastverse of Surah Muhammad [47:38] weare warned that selfishness, niggardliness,is the work of Iblees/Satan: “Behold youare those invited to spend (of yoursubstance) in the way of Allaah: butamong you are some that are niggardly.Any who are niggardly are so at theexpense of their own souls. Allaah is freeof all wants and it is you that are needy.If you turn back (from the Path) He willsubstitute in your stead another people;then they would not be like you!” Clearly,Allaah SWT does not love those who areselfish. Selfishness betrays a lack of trust,a lack of faith in Allaah’s mercy.

God describes such societies thatare unmindful of Him and the Hereaf-ter as “ignorant” in the Qur’an. Eventhough the members of this societymay study physics, history, biology orsimilar sciences, they do not have thesense and conscience to acknowledgethe power and might of God. And theyare ignorant in that sense. Because themembers of an ignorant society are notdevoted to God, they go astray fromHis path in different ways. They fol-low people who are incompetent ser-vants of God just like themselves, tak-ing them as examples and adhering totheir ideas as absolute truths. Ultimatelyan ignorant society ends up a closedsociety that increasingly blinds itself,becoming further and further divorcedfrom reason and conscience.

If wechecked off yes to these questions, thenwe are no better off than the youngwoman, who did not know much aboutIslam. Thankfully, most of us would nothave reacted in this negative way; how-ever, the worrisome fact is that this typeof behavior of judging and criticizing oth-ers (muslims or non-muslims) happensvery frequently amongst responsible adultsisters, who are supposed to know bet-ter. We always find ways to criticize andto condemn others, whether it’s aboutsomeone’s children, spouse, job, attire,appearance etc. We are always pointingfingers at others, all the while spreading“our” judgmental views, without lookingat our own situation. Sisters, let us repli-cate the gentleness of the Prophet (SAW)when trying to correct others. Let us tryto respect and coexist with those that arenot of our deen and let us pray that we allmay be rightly guided, and let us controlour urge to pass judgement on others.Our tongues are like double-edgedswords, they can work for us and againstus, both in this world and the Hereafter.We will be held accountable for what wesay. Allah (SWT )tells us: {He (man) doesnot utter a statement except that there isan observer by him ready to record it.}(50: 18). The Quran also teaches us, “The(true) servants of Allah (SWT), the MostGracious are those who walk on the earthin humility, and when the ignorant addressthem, they reply with (words of) peace.”The Holy Quran, 25:63. May Allah (SWT)forgive us for all our mistakes and guideus to make a concerted effort to correctour ill actions, and to seek more knowl-edge of our beautiful was of life. Ameen.

These are signs from Allah SWT for us to reflect. The meteorologicalsciences can only estimate where the hurricanes can come. They willtell us that the hurricane is going north, it’s going south, but theyCANNOT stop the hurricane from happening. We were taught thatwith the winds comes good, and with the winds comes bad. AllahSWT can cause any calamity or trial or occur to teach us and make usrecognize who ALLAH SWT really is. We need to use these signs toself reflect and ponder over the power of ALLAH SWT. Everythingthat we work so hard for in this life (Dunya), we will leave it all behindwhen we are experiencing a natural disaster and turmoil. All aspira-tions and ambitions are forsaken just from a quick reminder fromALLAH SWT! The very same things that ALLAH SWT makes usenjoy; the wind, the water, the rain, are the very same things that wemust escape from. That’s how ALLAH SWT works my brothers/sisters. Allaah says in Surah Adiyat 100:6 – “Innal Insaana Li RabbihiLa Ka Nood” - Man is certainly very ungrateful to his LORD. Wedon’t check the bounties/favors, nor do we contemplate what ALLAHSWT is capable of! People would prepare in advance for the hurri-cane, but what if you were to DIE in this hurricane? How manywould be prepared for the graves? We prepare the homes/businesseshere, but what about preparing for tomorrow (your life hereafter)?

Selfish people justifythemselves by saying they aremerely protecting themselvesfrom hardship and need. IsAllaah SWT not the best ofprotectors? But theirselfishness harms their ownsouls. Until they learn to trustAllaah SWT, they will not beable to build strong faith(Imaan). Their lack of faithmakes them easy prey forSatan, as we see in Surah alBaqara, v268: “The Evil Onethreatens you with poverty andbids you to conduct unseemly.Allaah promises you Hisforgiveness and bounties andAllaah cares for all and Heknows all things.” KahlilGibran wrote: “Is not the fearof thirst, when your own wellis full, the thirst that isunquenchable?” Let us bewareof Satan and his many waysof undermining our faith(Imaan). If we try hard withsincerity, Allaah SWT willstrengthen the faith in ourhearts, so we do not let thefear of poverty prevent usfrom spending in Allaah’s way.We are promised in Surah Al-Imran v92: “By no meansshall you attain righteousnessunless you give (freely) of thatwhich you love; and whateveryou give, truly, Allaah knowsit well.” And, in anotherbeautiful metaphoric verse,we are asked in Surah Al-Baqara v245: “Who is he thatwill loan to Allaah a beautifulloan which Allaah will doubleunto his credit and multiplymany times? It is Allaah thatgives (you) poverty or plentyand to Him shall be yourreturn.” This metaphor isrepeated no less than 6 timesin The Holy Qur’an. Again, weare promised in Surah Al

God describes in the Qur’anwith a striking parable howsuch a life, resting upon a vainand corrupt basis, is destinedto be ruined: “Which then isbest? He that lays his founda-tion on piety to God and Hisgood pleasure? Or he that layshis foundation on an under-mined sand-cliff ready tocrumble to pieces? And Goddoes not guide people that dowrong.” (Qur ’an, 9:109)There is yet another point tobe remembered: Every societyand every person has the op-portunity to be rid of the in-doctrination, way of life andphilosophy of ignorance. Every breath may be our last breath, hence we must alwaysask for forgiveness from ALLAH SWT. We were concernedabout taking our families, and leaving everything behind duringthe evacuations. What if ALLAH SWT had taken us and wehad to leave our families behind? How many people lost theirlives during the storm? Those people left their properties ANDtheir families behind. These are the signs of ALLAH SWT!How many nations did ALLAH SWT destroy before us? Theywere warned to maintain Taqwa (piety), but they rejected it.When calamities are approaching, it is then when we instituteprayer and supplications. However when the calamities pass,we revert back to the same condition of not giving shukr(thanks) to ALLAH SWT. These are ahadiths (prophecies men-tioned in the sangs) that were mentioned by Rasoolullah SAW,earthquakes, murders, disasters, storms, genocide, crimes,fires, floods! These are all mentioned in prophecies that wouldoccur one immediately right after the next. When people willlose their imaan (faith), hence ALLAH SWT will order the trum-pets to be blown! Allah SWT will never command the angel toblow the trumpet, beginning the day of judgment as long asthere are believers on this earth! ALLAH SWT will save theworld as long as there will be people who recite the Kalima.The lesson is that, always make the Dhikr and connect withALLAH SWT! We can prepare for the calamities/disasters inthis world my brothers/sisters. Ask yourselves, did we saveour families from the torment of the grave? Did we save ourchildren from misconduct? Did we save our families from thehell fire by teaching them Qur’an? Do they read the Qur’an?Allah SWT is saying by reading, living, and practicing thisQur’an is how HE (SWT) will eliminate calamities, and spiri-tual diseases.
