Let Us Be ThankfulIt is so easy to get caught up with life that we forget to give thanks to the Lord. So many times when we enter into God’s presence, we focus on our needs. “Lord, I’ve got this problem,” or “Lord, I really need some help.” However, the Scriptures encourage us to enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise (Ps. 100:4). No matter what is going on around us, we should purpose to give thanks and praise to God for all of the good things He has done for us.

We need to learn how to let thanksgiving roll from our lips. Unfortunately, it’s become a habit for some people to gripe and complain about this, that, and the other. but if we will just look around, we will see that we have so much to be thankful for. even in tough times, we can still give thanks to God for all that He has already done for us. And based on His Word, we can thank Him by faith for the future blessings that will come to us. If He moved on our behalf before, He will not leave us or forsake us now. Let us remember to thank the Lord for His blessings—not just in this season of thanksgiving but at every other time of the year.

this is also the time of year when we honor all of the men and women who have bravely served in the armed forces. I am proud to have served in the U.S. Army, and I am so very thankful for our veterans and the sacrifices they’ve made to protect our country and guarantee the freedoms we have. this country remains free because of the thousands of

men and women who battled valiantly during the many wars that have been fought throughout its history. If you see someone on active military duty or know a military veteran, let them know how thankful you are for their service to our nation.

Veterans: Thank you for your service to this country. We know it is because of you that we have our freedom. God bless you.

If we are going to accomplish God’s plan for our lives, we need to know how to stand against opposition. One of the secrets to our success will be learning how to remain unmovable when people or circumstances come against us.

Caught Between a Rock

and a Hard Place Pa Rt 1

We can leaRn a leSSon on how to stand by looking at the children of Israel. After they left Egypt, the Israelites were headed to the Promised Land. They left a life of slavery and were looking forward to a better life. But suddenly, they found themselves in a difficult situation.

The Egyptian army was pursuing them from be-hind, hills and mountains were on each side of them, and the Red Sea was in front of them. They were hemmed in and it looked as though they were caught between a rock and a hard place.

But notice that the min-ute they got into trouble, they began murmuring and complaining to Moses. They asked, “ ‘Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?’ ” (Exod. 14:11 NIV 1984).

Although they had been crying out for deliver-ance, they forgot God’s promise to deliver them. When it looked as if there was no way out, instead of turning to God, they looked at the Red Sea with de-spair. They were filled with fear and didn’t consider God. They looked at their circumstances through their natural senses. And suddenly the bondage they just came out of didn’t look so bad.

This same thing can happen to us today. When it looks as though our backs are against the wall, we may want to run. But when we are in situations

When we start looking at the pos-sibilities of God—

the possibilities of healing, deliv-erance, success,

and victory—we’ll see our situation

change.

Walk in God’s Victory!

God has a plan of victory and triumph for you. But you have a part to play in your own success. Only you can determine whether you will be a victim or a victor, a faith failure or a faith giant. If you feel as if you’re beaten down by circum-stances, burdened by cares, gripped by fear, or beset by drudgery, take heart! God wants to refresh you and set you on a new course of victory in Christ!

like this, we need to learn to stand firm and focus on God, which is what Moses told the children of Israel to do.

eXodUS 14:13–14 (niV 1984)13 moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. StAND fIrm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. the egyptians you see today you will never see again.14 the Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

We shouldn’t be surprised that trouble comes knocking when we follow after God and focus on His promises. The devil doesn’t want us to go for-ward with God and will do whatever he can to get us to quit. It’s during times like this that we need to keep our focus on the Lord and remember the words of the Apostle Paul:

1 CorinthianS 15:57–58 (niV 1984)57 but thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus christ.58 therefore, my dear brothers, StAND fIrm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Saying that we’ll stand firm is easy, but it’s much harder to do when things are coming against us. It’s not always easy to stand firm when the enemy is throwing everything at us but the kitchen sink! Many people want to cut and run in times of trouble. Half the battle can be staying in our position. If we’re

going to receive everything that God has for us, we have to learn how to stay in the place He has called us to, no matter how difficult it may get.

The more we focus on the impossibilities, the further down we’ll go. But when we start looking at the possibilities of God—the possibilities of heal-ing, deliverance, success, and victory—we’ll see our situation change. When we rise up and begin telling the devil who we are in Christ, we will move into the promises of God—our Promised Land—and impos-sibilities will become possibilities._____________(Editor’s Note: Look for Part 2 of this article in the December issue of The Word of Faith.)

God’s Promise to Deliver

Everyone encounters obstacles. Here are two tips on how to stand strong when adversity comes.

Realize that God has a plan biG enouGh to take caRe of you.If we focus on the natural realm, things will look hopeless. The Israelites only saw the Red Sea in front of them and the Egyptian army behind them. They couldn’t see any way out. But God had made a way of escape, and that was to go through the Red Sea!

follow God’s plan.Whenever God moves, we need to follow Him. Sometimes we have a preconceived idea of how He will move in our lives. But when direction comes, it might not be what we had in mind. It’s better to move with God into unfamiliar territory than stay where we are and be out of His will. Remember, the only place God can bless us is where His plan says to go.

over the years many

people have asked me,

“What is the key to your

success?” There are many

keys to success in the min-

istry and in life. But I always

tell people that first, you

have to be willing and obe-

dient to do what God has

called you to do.

Second, I tell people that to

remain willing and obedient

to God through the good

times and the bad, you’ve

got to be faithful. You’ve got

to be faithful to serve God.

And you’ve got to be faithful

to obey God and His Word.

I encourage you to be faith-

ful to obey God and follow

His leading step-by-step. If

Kenneth and I hadn’t been

faithful in the early days of

our ministry—even in the

small things—we would nev-

er have accomplished what

we did accomplish. And

being faithful in the small

things doesn’t just apply to

people who are in the min-

istry. It applies to all of us.

If you are faithful to do what

God says to do, God will be

faithful to bring you into all

that He has planned for you.

So stay faithful and remain

steadfast in the vision God

has given you.

Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us

not be weary in well doing:

for in due season we shall

reap, if we faint not.” Don’t

faint by the wayside in your

commitment to the Lord.

Stay in the fight of faith

because you are the victor

in Christ. You won’t lose as

long as you’re walking with

Him. Jesus will always see

you through. You may think

you’re going under because

of the storms of life, but

you won’t. Just trust Jesus,

and He’ll bring you safely

through every storm.

To succeed in life—whether

or not you’re called to the

ministry—you can’t quit

doing what God has put in

your heart to do. You can’t

obey God for a little while

and then quit when the cir-

cumstances don’t look too

good or when your faith

is being tested and tried.

You’ve got to be faithful to

carry out God’s plan for

your life.

I think the reason many

people fail in life is that they

get impatient. But you can’t

get impatient in the things

of God. The plan of God for

your entire life won’t unfold

overnight.

Many times God will tell

you something about the

future, and you want it right

then! But God has to get

you ready for what He’s

called you to do. You might

not be ready right now to

handle what God has for

you. But God will get you

ready and steer you in the

right direction. If you will

follow the gentle nudge

you have from the Holy

Spirit, then step-by-step He

will lead you until He gets

you to the place spiritu-

ally where He knows you’re

ready.

So be patient as you fulfill

God’s plan for your life.

Even when things don’t

happen the way you think

they should or when you

think they should, faithful-

ness is what brings you

through to victory in God.

The devil may try to stand

in your way to see what

you are made of. But that’s

when you will have to stand

fast and show that you

mean business with God.

He never fails. And no mat-

ter how difficult the test or

trial, faithfulness always

reaps the reward.

We can run to God’s Word to

find peace.

COnSiDER: are there things in your life right now about which you have no peace? FIND scriptures that cover your situation. TAKE TIME to meditate on these verses.

God deSiReS that all of uS be successful in every area of our lives. Success is available in our relationships—in our marriages and with our family, friends, and coworkers. We can be successful in our finances and on our jobs. We can also see our dreams come to pass. It’s as we obey God’s Word that we will see the success we desire.

For example, my favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” This verse is truly a foun-dation for every aspect of my life. Numerous times over the years, my natural strength seemed to be de-pleted. At those times, the strength I needed to do something came completely from the Lord.

The Word of God is alive and powerful. It gives us victory in life and provides the direc-tion, guidance, and wis-dom we need to succeed in every situation, even in troubled times. Lately, the turmoil around us has been mind-boggling. Unprecedented earth-quakes and floods have occurred. Some countries have come to the verge of financial collapse, while other nations have expe-rienced civil uprisings. When the world seems to be spinning out of con-trol, there’s nothing like the Word of God to keep our hearts and minds in peace.

When the uncertainty of our times tries to over-shadow us with worry and fear, we can run to God’s Word to find peace. His Word is our safety in the midst of turmoil and harm.

MAking TiME fOR WHAT’S iMpORTAnT

It’s more important to-day than ever before that we build a strong foun-dation in God’s Word and make His Word a daily part of our lives. Some-

times our schedules are so busy that we think we don’t have time to read and meditate on the Word. But we seem to have time to do the things we want to do!

For example, we have time to watch our favor-ite programs on television. We can always find time to do all the other things that are important to us. However, are we making time to do the things that will cause us to walk in God’s peace and have suc-cess in our lives? Are we learning to be grounded in the Word and not moved by what we see with our natural eyes? Are we learning to trust the Lord and cast our cares on Him? Those are the things that will cause peace to rule in our hearts.

When the world seems to be spinning out of control, there’s nothing like the Word

of God to keep our hearts and minds

in peace.

Think on This!

The key to our success and peace is found in God’s Word. Meditate on these scriptures. They will strengthen your faith to receive God’s peace and find success in life.

“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)” (John 10:10 amplifed).

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Eph. 3:20).

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work” (2 Cor. 9:8).

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19).

“And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love” (Rom. 5:5 nLT).

“When you lie down, you shall not be afraid; yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet” (Prov. 3:24 amplified).

“I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will give safety to your children and ease them” (Isa. 49:25 amplified).

“My people will live in a peaceful neighborhood—in safe houses, in quiet gardens” (Isa. 32:18 Message).

“Once more he took hold of me, and I felt stronger. He said, “God loves you, so don’t let anything worry you or frighten you” (Dan. 10:18–19 GnT).

If we’re not careful, we will find ourselves living defeated lives without any peace, simply because we’ve neglected the very thing that will give us God’s power and His peace—the Word of God.

If we let ourselves be consumed with all the natu-ral things of life, that’s what will come out when the tests and trials come. We’ll wring our hands and cry out to the Lord, “What are we going to do now?”

But if we set aside time to fill our minds and hearts with the Word, when the crisis comes, we can bold-ly declare that we’re not going under—we’re going over! And we can have peace—not turmoil, discour-agement, worry, or distress—in the middle of any storm or struggle!

our spirits cry out with a sincere desire to know God. And the level that we know, understand, and experience God comes from the level of expectation we have for Him. If we want to see blind eyes opened or cancer healed, we have to have an expectation for the miraculous to happen.

Philippians 1:20–21 says, “According to my earnest ex-

pectation and hope that in nothing I shall

be ashamed, but with all

boldness,

as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (NKJV).

Paul’s expectation and hope was in Jesus Christ. He said, “I may live or I may die, but when it’s all said and done, I find my hope in Him.” Paul told us that if we can see something, then we’re not hoping for it (Rom. 8:24–25). Hope sees things the way they should be and expects the power of God to intervene.

The story of blind Bartimaeus in the Book of Mark gives us a good example of this.

mark 10:46–47 (nkJv)46 Now [Jesus and His dis-ciples] came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great

multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging.47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out. . . .

Evidently Bartimaeus had heard how Jesus went about healing the sick. And now Jesus was walking by. Bar-timaeus clearly had high expectations that he, too, could be healed, because he immediately began calling out, “ ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ ” (v. 47).

When we begin to expect something from God, there will be people around us who will try to quench our expec-tations. They will be quick to tell us why something can’t happen. The people around Bartimaeus told him to be quiet, but Bartimaeus wouldn’t listen to them. He cried out all the more. He was not going to let anyone dampen his expectation. Bartimaeus was determined to receive his healing!

When we really expect to get something from God, nobody can keep us quiet. It doesn’t mat-ter who is around us. Bartimaeus believed that this was his op-portunity to get healed, and he wasn’t going to let it pass him by!

Bartimaeus’ expectation caused Jesus to stop and find out what he wanted. The same people who told him to be quiet then told the beggar that Jesus was calling for him. Notice what Bartimaeus did next: “And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus” (v. 50).

That garment identified Bar-timaeus as a beggar—an outcast to society. But when he threw off his garment, Bartimaeus laid down his life of begging. He wouldn’t need that garment anymore because he wasn’t going to be a blind beggar anymore.

Like blind Bartimaeus, it’s time for all of us to get rid of the garments we’ve been hanging on to. It’s time to turn loose of the garment of depression, the garment of lack, and the garment that says, “I can’t.” Let’s turn our expecters on and realize that we can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us.

Some of us have been liv-ing at the same level of expectation for so long that we’ve gotten satisfied with living off yesterday’s meal. We’ve become satisfied with yesterday’s memories. But if we will get our expecters turned on, expecting God to do something for us, it will happen!

And believ-ing is more than just raising your hand and saying, “I’m a believer.” To truly believe means that you are truly convinced the Bible is the truth, that there is no error in it, and that it will indeed do what is written on its pages. The only way to get that conviction is to read the Word—over and over again—and meditate in it.

step teams. Dance crews. Multiple bands. Skits. Games. Prizes. All of these

were ingredients for Summer Blitz 2011, AXIS® Youth Ministries’ annual event held

in conjunction with Campmeeting. But the most memorable parts of this year’s

gathering were the powerful messages delivered during each of the services. Each

message was keyed to the theme “Relentless,” and each speaker challenged the

youth to pursue God relentlessly, no matter what circumstances they faced.

Keith Nachbor spoke profoundly Wednesday evening on being truly relentless for

God. Nachbor, junior high youth minister at RHEMA Bible Church, said that too

many times we pursue God when we need something instead of pursuing Him just

because we love Him. “We relentlessly pursue a result, not a relationship,” he said.

“We change just enough to get what we want. We tend to pursue God until our cir-

cumstances or situations change, but we quit before we change. Until we change

we will continue to experience the same circumstances over and over again.” At

the end of the service, a number of youth rededicated their lives to Christ and

more than 30 received the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking

in other tongues.

Many youth want to do something for Christ but aren’t sure they qualify because

of one factor—their age. But Brent Bailey, former senior high youth minister and

current singles minister at RHEMA Bible Church, erased those doubts in his rous-

ing message “I Do, I Can, I Will.” He asked the kids if they really believed what the

Bible says, and they responded with a loud “I do!” Brent then asked them if they

honestly thought they could do what the Word of God told them they could do. “I

can!” they shouted. He then said, “The power of God is with you whether you feel

it or have ever used it. But someone will have to rise up and use it. Who will?” The

youth screamed in unison, “I will!”

Matt Shirley, senior high youth minister at RHEMA Bible Church, encouraged his

audience in a message entitled “The Relentless Reach.” He told the youth in atten-

dance to reach relentlessly for God—to pursue Him with no distractions. “Your time

is precious,” he said. “You can’t allow the noise of the world—circumstances, re-

lationships, habits—to hinder your time with Him.” At the end of the service, many

youth came to the altar to rededicate their lives to God.

The week ended with a day-long trip to an area water park, followed by a concert

that night with The AXIS® Worship Band and Cloverton. The youth left excited

about relentlessly pursuing God no matter what challenges they may face in life!

DaviD John encouraged his hear-ers to “stay relentless.” He explained the difference between arrogance and confidence, and he stressed that confi-dence in God and in who we are in Christ is extremely important. “In order to be relentless for God, you have to know who you are,” he said. “Everybody is relent-less about something. Be relentless in your search for God.”

In his message “Love: No Strings At-tached,” aaron hankins urged his audience to truly understand how high, wide, and deep the love of God is for each and every one of us. “God chooses you no matter what it is you’ve done, whether good or bad,” he said. “No matter what your abilities are, no matter what you look like, God loves you! It is impossible to live insecure if you know how much God loves you.”

errin hankins encouraged the youth to pursue God in good times and bad. She said many people shy away from God during the dark times in their lives, but we should actually pursue Him no matter what is going on. “When you are in trouble, God is not done talking to you,” she said. “God is willing to speak to you where you are right now. God is will-ing to use you where you are right now!”

chris musGrove charged the youth to be relentless in the Word, in prayer, and in worship. He showed how the three work together and emphasized the importance of practicing them regu-larly. “You cannot grow spiritually from Sunday to Sunday or from youth service to youth service without spending time in the Word, in prayer, and in worship,” he said. “You can’t fellowship with Him once a week at church, ignore Him the rest of the time, and expect to have a strong spiritual life.”

Often, before we can receive anything from God, we must find answers to the questions that keep us from receiving. as long as questions crowd our minds, we will have doubts, and our faith will be hindered. I know from

my own experience on a bed of sickness, there were questions in my mind that had to be settled

before my faith could be effective.

Recognizing the Source

foR a lonG time the devil tried to tell me that God had afflicted me and was punishing me for some wrongdoing in my life. I listened to this for a while but finally said, “Mr. devil, I was born with a deformed heart and serious internal trouble. Why would God punish me for something I don’t even know about? That must not be true.”

Then the devil said, “you’re sick because of some-thing your parents did.” This is what the disciples thought about a man who was blind from birth. They asked Jesus, “Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:2).

Some people misquote Jesus’ reply. They think He said the man was sick just so God could heal him. If that were true, God wouldn’t be much of a God. But thank God, that’s not true.

Jesus said, “I must work the works of him that sent me” (v. 4). Then He immediately did the works of God by healing the man.

When the devil saw that I still be-lieved in healing, he tried to convince me that it was not God’s will to heal me. He said, “Heal-ing is real, but it isn’t God’s will to heal everybody.

you’re one of those who it’s not His will to heal.”It’s illogical to believe that God heals and at the

same time believe that He won’t heal you. Although I had heard people say, “your sickness is God’s work,” I couldn’t accept this. others said, “Well, maybe God didn’t commission it, but He permits it for a purpose.” But that’s about the same thing.

I was born again while bedfast, but even after that I had questions. “Why me,” I asked God.

“Why was I born this way? did you cause me to be born prematurely? Why couldn’t I have

a normal childhood? did you rob me of my childhood? Now I am bedfast, and five

doctors say I have to die. I didn’t have anything to do with it.

God, did you?”

Such questions demand an answer, but nobody really gives you an answer. They give you some theo-logical concept that doesn’t amount to anything.

I’m so glad I found the answer.

aCtS 10:3838 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about DOING GOOD, AND HeALING ALL tHAt Were OPPreSSeD Of tHe DevIL; for God was with him.

This verse showed me that Satan is the oppressor. Satan caused me to be born prematurely, have a de-formed heart, be almost totally paralyzed, and have an incurable blood disease.

Jesus is the deliverer, the life-giver. He is the Savior. Jesus is God manifested in the flesh! I was so thrilled when I discovered this truth. After I saw what the Bible said, I received my healing. I crawled out of bed and said, “I’m not going to die. I’m going to live!” I was 17 years old then. I had never heard healing preached. But the Bible said it, I believed it, and that settled it.

DOn’T BlAME gODIt’s difficult for people who are not acquainted

with Scripture to understand that natural laws gov-erning the earth today largely came into being when Adam sinned and the earth was cursed.

Because people do not understand this, many blame God for causing accidents, the sickness and death of loved ones, and such natural catastrophes as tornados, earthquakes, and floods. Even insurance companies call natural disasters “acts of God.” But

God is not responsible for any of these things. He is not the author of death and He is not to blame.

accidents, disease, sickness, death, and di-sasters come as a result of the fall of man. their author is Satan.

Jesus said in John 10:10, “The thief [Satan] cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

In this verse Jesus contrasts the works of God with the works of the devil. That which steals, kills, and destroys is the devil’s work.

Instead of taking advantage of what belongs to us, all too often we allow the devil to steal from us. God laid on Jesus not only the sin, sickness, and dis-ease of us all, but also the cause of that sickness and disease. And what He bore, we do not need to bear. Let’s quit blaming God for the adversity we experi-ence and instead tap into the abundant life He has for us._____________(Editor’s Note: This article was adapted from Kenneth E. Who Did What?

Jesus contrasted what He did with the works of the devil. In John 10:10, He said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

If we want to see God at work, we only have to look at Jesus. In John 14:9, Jesus said, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” nowhere in the four Gospels do we see Jesus refusing to heal someone or putting sickness on a person, only to heal him later. It’s evident then that sickness and disease are the works of the devil.

JeSuS Said, “ ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free’ ” (Luke 4:18 NIV 2011). A team of 34 RHEMA Bible Church youth and their leaders invaded Bogota, Colombia, with that same message and saw amazing results!

The team performed dramas and shared the Gospel in five schools, on the streets, at a youth conference, and at five churches in Colombia’s capital. After five days of extremely early morn-ings and very late nights, the team looked back on what the Lord had done through them: more than 3,500 people had chosen to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, there were countless healings, a blind eye was opened, and many were set free by the power of God.

Brent Bailey, former senior high youth minister and current singles minister at RHEMA Bible Church, said, “Anytime we do something like this, the big thing for me is to see the kids actually doing the ministry. Seeing them share their testimonies and doing the skits was awesome, but seeing them lay hands on the sick and having feet grow out and a guy put his crutches down was tremendous. Seeing kids respond to what you’ve put into them is always special. I’ve been putting this into them for 10 years, so it was good to see that come out of them.”

Matt Shirley, current senior high youth minister, echoed Bailey’s comment. “The highlight for me was the personal impact with the students . . . actually stepping out and acting on what they believe to the point where they applied their faith,” he said. He also was excited about how RHEMA’s youth encouraged their peers in Colombia. “To see them be able to impact people their own age was hands-down the greatest pleasure I could have gotten from the trip.”

“Before the trip God told me to pray and prepare myself, so I asked Him to work through us. In one of the services, Brent was speaking, and you could feel the presence of God. Brent started ministering to people and called for people who had one leg shorter than the other. I was ex-cited to see it, because this is what I had been asking for. Two girls game forward. Brent called for me, and God gave me a confidence. I grabbed the girl’s feet and started praying. I got a tingling feeling in my hands and it started flowing through my hands. When I said, ‘In Jesus’ Name,’ her leg immediately popped out. It was awe-some! Glory to God!”

“I had the opportunity to speak to about 40 third- and fourth-graders at one of the schools we went to. I just shared a five-minute story with them and gave an altar call. They all raised their hands to accept Jesus. That’s the awesome thing about it. We gave them the opportunity, and they chose Jesus. We saw over 3,500 accept Him on this trip. That is impacting a generation. Every day we have an opportunity to affect our world for Jesus. You can be a missionary to your world. You can give people the opportunity every day to choose Jesus.”

“From the start of the trip, I was pray-ing, ‘Lord, I want You to use me and work through me in any way there is.’ In one of the services, they asked us to pray over a group of people who were war veterans. There was one guy in particular who was on crutches. I laid my hands on him and at first I didn’t feel anything. But as I continued to pray for him, it was like power shot through my body and into him. After everyone had been prayed for, he went up on the stage and started dancing around and say-ing, ‘I’m healed! I’m healed!’ It was a great experience.”

Life seems to pass so quickly these days. I remember as a child, I thought the school year would never end. I so looked forward to the summers, but it seemed that they would never come. September to May passed so slowly. Now, even the children say that the months pass by quickly. In the midst of the pressures of life, it is easy to begin focusing on the negatives that life presents.

I want to encourage you this month—and really, to urge you to make it a habit—to focus on posi-tive things. We need to focus on good things and be thankful for our blessings. Your world may be rocking, and you may be thinking, “I can’t think of anything positive happening to me right now.”

Do you have the use of your arms and legs? Then you have something to be thankful for. Some people do not have the use of their limbs. Do you have a sound mind? Be thankful—there are those who do not. Do you have a house to protect you from the elements? Be thankful—there are those who have no shelter. Are your children healthy? Be thankful. Some parents have children dealing with terminal diseases. Do you have food to eat? Be thankful. There are people dying of malnutrition.

When I am tempted to have a pity party because of some situation, I begin to look at the things in life that we often take for granted, and I say, “Thank You, Father.” A few years ago I fell and fractured my shoulder, and my arm was immobile for several weeks. I quickly realized the limitations of having one arm. Since that time, I have made it a point to be thankful for my arms and not take for granted things that seem to be “life as usual.”

We also need to dwell on positive things in the lives of our family members. Healthy relationships with our spouse, children, parents, and other relatives are important. We were all born into a family, and God’s intention was that families have strong bonds. Of course, many times that bond is not strong because all in the family may not be Christians. However, I have seen strife, discord, and even es-trangement in Christian families.

It is so important to put away disagreements and contention and reconnect with your family. Forgive each other for hurtful words that might have been spoken. And ask for forgiveness if you were the offender. My father-in-law told this story about two families in a church he pastored many years ago.

A member of one family said, “Brother Hagin, I don’t understand. My family is faithful to attend church and volunteer, and faithful to tithe. Yet it seems that we are always sick and something is always going wrong. And that family” (the woman mentioned another family in the church) “is not faithful to come to church, they volunteer very little, and they tithe only occasionally. But they never seem to be sick and things go well for them. Can you tell me why, Brother Hagin?”

My father-in-law replied, “Of course, I could not tell you definitely without God revealing the reason to me. However, there are prin-ciples you need to look at set down in the Word of God.” He continued, “I’ve observed that the family you are referring to is always quick to repent and quick to forgive.” The woman concurred. “Oh yes, they always instantly repent and quickly forgive. However, my family does not forgive easily. In fact, we remember anything that anyone has ever done to us.”

Brother Hagin said, “I think you have just answered your own question. The Word of God teaches us that we must be quick to forgive others. Mark 11:25 says, ‘And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.’ ” That story is indelibly stamped on my mind. After he told it, Brother Hagin would say, “Mark 11:23 and 24 will not work for you unless you practice Mark 11:25.”

As the holidays approach, I want to encourage you—if you have let disagreements and misunder-standings affect your relationship with your family, forgive them and reconnect. Lay aside any differ-

ences and accept them for who they are. Love them in spite of the hurts and disappointments you may have experienced. God loved mankind even though His creation messed up miserably.

He sent the very best gift He had, His Son, to redeem us. Why should we not do the same in return to those who have disappointed and hurt us? Forgive and reconcile, and you

will find that a stronger bond can be established in the years to come.

God Is, So I Can!what Do you Get when you combine chirping crickets, a ton of marshmallows, and hundreds of excited, screaming, elementary-aged kids in one room? Pretty much one of the most amazing Campmeetings for kids you’ve ever seen!

This year, the RHEMA Kids Auditorium was transformed into a “camp” loaded with fun, unique (and sometimes crazy) camp counsel-ors, and the Word of God. “We do all the fun things you would do at a real camp,” said De-nise Burns, RHEMA Bible Church children’s minister and camp director for the week. “We’re eating popcorn and playing really messy games. We even found marshmallows with our feet in a tub of pudding!”

And the kids loved it! Each night they jumped right in, cheering for the marshmallow wars and other games, singing and doing the mo-tions to the camp song, and making new friends. Amid all the fun and activities, they also worshipped the Lord and learned about the Word.

“Our theme this week is God is, so I can,” said Rev. Burns. “We’re teaching the kids that God is our healer, so we can be healed. God is our provider, so we can have all our needs met. God is our peace, so we don’t have to be stressed out or worried. God is, so I can!”

Kids also learned that no matter what they do or where they go, God is love, and He always loves them. As they realized this, many chil-dren were born again—which is what it’s all about. “I like seeing people get saved,” one young girl exclaimed. “It’s so cool!”

By Friday, camp was coming to a close, but the kids were pumped about what they’d experienced during the week. During a time of worship, they just entered in, closing their eyes and lifting their hands toward Heaven. As they sang “glory to God,” the presence of the Lord filled the RHEMA Kids auditorium where they were, and a quiet stillness came over the entire place. No one wanted to stop worship-ping as they basked in God’s presence.

“This is exactly what we endeavor to do,” re-marked Rev. Burns. “The kids all had a blast learning about the Word of God. I’m so thank-ful they came to Campmeeting!”
