October Newsletter Notes by George Linkis
Annual Dinner Dec. 15 th , 2012. Yes, in no time at all it will be time to sit down to dinner. Raffle items are accumulating nicely. To date we have an electric hand drill, a basket of food stuff & wine, 2 pair of matching men and ladies wrist watchers (donated by Bill Yarbrough), a level, 2ft. ruler and a 12 volt 300 psi mini-air compressor. I am sure there will be more items added as time goes on.
Chili Fund Raiser. It seemed as though it was not to be this year but enough members said that we should have the Chili Fest as though we still had the EAA building. So the Chili Fest is on! Needless to say, a generous donation and 95% participation will help the building fund. On such short notice, I hope the usual chili and dessert donors will come to the fore. We will only be setting up one (?) table. Rick Todd, who remodeled the East end office, will open his office so that we can use his space, desks and chairs. Please take care not to spill any chili on his computer and flight simulator. Rick also redid the electrical so that 4 or 5 crock pots shouldn’t overload the circuit breakers.
PLEASE- keep in mind when parking that we are trying to get Lou Seno and Tom Jundanian as close to the ramp as possible, so leave some space open there. We’ll have a sign posted on the East overhead door of the maintenance building just South of the trailer.
Still looking for a Program Chairman- No experience required!
Rick Todd has informed me that he is now a distributor for Aircraft Spruce & Specialty! Rick has offered to help us acquire the items we need at a savings, so let’s do our part to help him get his new venture up and running, as he does have a targeted minimum amount of business he has to do each year to keep his distributorship. Project CornerThis month I’m going to take a break from writing in order to keep the newsletter size more manageable for printing and mailing, and so that I can include a write-up by Don Bonk. Zenith Open Hangar Day by Don Bonk
Christa and I drove down to Mexico, MO for the Zenith open hangar day. We left about 5:30 AM on Friday the 21st so we could be there a little before noon including a stop for breakfast. We wanted to be there because at 12:30 Zenith holds seminars on some different aspects of building. We saw three seminars, one on painting, one on Jabaru engines and one on electrical wiring. Also at 6:00 PM on Friday they host a builder’s banquet. Zenith also was celebrating their 20th year in Mexico, MO.The president of EAA, Rod Hightower was there and presented Sebastian Heinz with a plaque. Rod also gave out a door prize of two VIP passes to Air Venture 2013.
Also at the dinner, they announced some guests because of the distance they traveled to be there. One from Brazil, one from Iceland (which I had a chance to meet), and a couple from Australia that was in Mexico, MO on their honeymoon.
As always on Saturday the vendors were there, you could build a notebook with the Zenith logo and this year they added “1992 – 2012” below their logo, and if you flew in you could build a set of wheel chocks.
The Mexico Chamber of commerce was there to make a presentation to Zenith for their 20th anniversary and afterwards they took a group photo.
