So once a bunch of American musi-cians have taken apart and re-imag-ined two of the UK’s most successful

and revered groups where do they gonext? The answer is of course TheBeatles and so Sgt Peppers Lonely HeartsDub Band was born. With huge amountsof energy, deep basslines, vocal har-monies and a powerful brass section theband outperform many of their reggaecontemporaries.

Easy-Star All Stars are a simply mustsee group of brilliant musicians wholovingly re-imagine some of the

best music ever created: Dark Side OfThe Moon (Pink Floyd), OK Computer(Radiohead), and Sgt. Pepper’s LonelyHearts Club Band (The Beatles).

Ian Siegal doesn't sound like thename of a blues singer; his namedoesn't have the stereotypically

bluesy ring of names like MemphisSlim, T-Bone Walker or Mississippi JohnHurt, Perhaps someone who is seekingto combine Celtic music and klezmercould be named Ian Siegal (Ian is a veryScottish name, Siegal very Jewish). Butthis Ian Siegal (who is from England)doesn't play either Celtic music orklezmer, and is most defiantly blues.

Siegal favors electric blues-rockwith a strong Howlin' Wolf influ-ence; his vocals owe a lot to

Wolf's raspy vocal style. While Siegal isblues-oriented, he is far from a bluespurist, and there is no overlooking thefact that rock, soul and funk have alsoaffected his musical outlook. Siegal hashis heroes and his idols, but he is hisown person and paints an attractivepicture of himself in every perform-ance. Presented acoustic and in theround, any fans of Muddy, Howlin, TomWaits, or any soulful, low-down anddirty blues should definitely not missthis gig - always a highlight of the year.

ings ever made bya British artist.”

"The greatestband of all time."

The Guardian

Out of all the late-'70s punkand post-punk bands, nonewere longer lived or more

prolific than the Fall. Throughouttheir career, the band underwent amyriad lineup changes, but at thecentre of it all was vocalist Mark E.Smith. With his snarling, nearlyincomprehensible vocals and con-suming bitter cynicism, Smithbecame a cult legend in indie andalternative rock. Over the course oftheir career, the Fall went through anumber of shifts in musical style, yet the foundation of their soundwas a near-cacophonous, amelodicjagged jumble of guitars, sing-speakvocals, and keyboards.

The Fall are a seminal bandwho are an acknowledgedinfluence on The Smiths, The

Happy Mondays, Nirvana and FranzFerdinand. Mark E. Smith’s lyrics aregenerally the Fall's focal point:abstract poetry filled with compli-cated wordplay, bone-dry wit, cutting social observations, and gen-eral misanthropy (sometimes moreimplied than clearly stated, butapparent nonetheless).

Their forthcoming show at MrKyps is sure to be a memo-rable occasion for everyone

involved as the band who haveshaped musical history take to ourstage, ready to influence yetanother generation of live musiclovers.
