Sir Syed Ahmed Khan (1817-1898)was a

great visionary, educationalist, politician,

and Muslim reformer of the 19th century,

the like of whom is rare. He wanted to

make the community and country pro-

gressive and took them forward on mod-

ern lines. His supreme interest was intel-

lectual development of the people through

modern education. He was the first Indian

Muslim to contribute to the intellectual

and institutional foundation of Muslim

modernization in Southern Asia. Interest

of community and country was dearer to

him rather than anything else. He was

successful in making the Muslims under-

stand the importance of modern educa-

tion and endeavour their best to achieve it

in order to stand firmly on their own and

live a dignified life in accordance with Is-

lamic thoughts.

To the Muslim community Sir Syed Ah-

med Khan was and is like “the eye which

weeps for the suffering of any and every

part of the body”. The sufferings of the

community worried him. He took an oath

to reform, educate and empower the Mus-

lim community and was successful to a

great extent in implementing that despite

strong opposition from a section of the

Muslim community which hated the Brit-

ish and their language.

In more than one ways Sir Syed was one

of the greatest social reformers and a

great national builder of modern India. He

prepared the road map for the formation

of a Muslim University by starting vari-

ous schools. He instituted Scientific Soci-

ety in 1863 to create a scientific tempera-

ment among the Muslims and to make

the Western knowledge available to Indi-

ans in their mother tongue. The Aligarh

Institute Gazette, an organ of the Scien-

tific Society was started in March 1866

and succeeded in transforming the

minds of the traditional Muslim Society.

In 1875, Sir Syed founded the Madarsat-

ul Uloom in Aligarh and patterned “the

MAO (Mohammedan Anglo Oriental) Col-

lege” after Oxford and Cambridge univer-

sities, which subsequently rose to the

status of Aligarh Muslim University

(AMU) in 1920. His objective was to build

a college in tune with the British education

system but without compromising its Islamic

values. He wanted this College to act as a

bridge between the old and the new, the East

and the West.

The aim of Sir Syed was not merely restricted

to establishing a college at Aligarh but at

spreading a network of Muslim managed edu-

cational institutions throughout the length

and breadth of the country. Keeping this in

view, he instituted All India Muslim Educa-

tional Conference in 1886 that revived the

spirit of Muslims at national level. The Aligarh

Movement motivated the Muslims to help

open a number of educational institutions. It

was the first of its kind of such Muslim NGO

in India, which awakened the Muslims from

their deep slumber and infused in them the

social and political awareness.

Sir Syed said and believed that.

“We (Hindus and Muslims) eat the same crop,

drink water from the same rivers and breathe

the same air. As a matter of fact Hindus and

Muslims are the two eyes of the beautiful bride

that is Hindustan. Weakness of any one of

them will spoil the beauty of the bride

Today we can see the products of the Aligarh

Muslim University adoring in every field of

activity. They have earned a name for the

community and country, thanks to the Ali-

Alumni Interview Sumit Sharma, an alumnus of our college is

the pass out of 2010 electronics engineering batch.

He got placed in Accenture from campus placement

but left the job after 3 months since he found that

he is not intending to do that job. Then he joined

M.Tech. at AMU and started preparations for PSU‟s

exams. He also applied for INDIAN ARMY via Tech-

nical Graduate Scheme. He got selected there after

qualifying SSB (comprising of 14 tests) and inter-

view. Now after 2 years, he is posted in Arunachal

Pradesh with the designation of „Captain‟.

Recently, he came to campus to meet his teachers.

He also talked to „The MIRROR‟ team and told us

about his pre and post college experiences. He said,

“I had never thought of joining Indian Army during

my college days.” Also, he said he was an average

student as far as studies were concerned. But he

always did what he liked to do. That‟s why at pre-

sent he is not just successful, he is very happy also

to be at the place that he achieved.

About his experiences at

Indian Army, he said that

his life has changed since he has joined the Indian

Army. In the beginning, it was very difficult for

him to adjust but with time he got used to the ar-

my lifestyle and at present he is enjoying to be the

part of it. He also told us about his future plans

and said he is preparing for IPS exams where

some seats are reserved for army officials.

He advised the students to never get fascinated by

what others do, listen to yourself what you want to

be and also never take anything very lightly. Try

and achieve something rather than simply talking

about it. For those students who were interested

in joining the INDIAN ARMY, “Come and join INDI-

AN ARMY; you will get everything that you want in

your life,” he said. “You will experience the royal

lifestyle here and most importantly discipline will

be embedded in your life which will help you

throughout your life.”

PROCRASTINATION

The word “Procrastination” might be alien to many of

us but it recurs very much in our lives, yet we seem to

be unconscious of it’s presence and impact. It has set

deep roots in our lives that we even don’t know that we

are practicing it on daily basis. About 90-95% of people

procrastinate in this world. In simple words,

procrastination means postponing an action. One might

think how it affects our lives, instead it acts as a con-

venient scape goat to get to a point which keeps active-

ly stifling our progress. Many of us have loads of work

but we keep them delaying. Many of us use this excuse

knowing full well that we are procrastinating

–but waiting for that excitement and adrenaline rush

that will push us through that all-nighter and success-

fully finish on time. For example, many of us try this at

the exam time even i.e. what we say it as-one night

study. Some of the common sentences we use while

procrastinating are- “I’ll start after…” ; “I don’t have

enough information to start…” ; “I’ll do it tomorrow…”

and many more but all this leads us to stuck into the

sloppy sand just like a broken bridge, difficult to cross. .

For example, we set a task to do on a certain day, but

that day turns into two days, into weeks, months and

even years. It becomes almost guaranteed that our

elusive “Someday” will never come and acts as a

“Someday Syndrome” as said well by Ivan Turgenev “If

we wait for the moment when everything, absolutely

everything is ready, we shall never begin”. One more

common word we use is “Tomorrow”. For say “I will

study this time and prepare notes, but even then often

less”. In a Spanish proverb, it is said that ”

Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week”.

But what actually it does ? Procrastination in one

way or the other ultimately kills our productivity,

ambition, motivation and even dreams. It kills one

minute, one hour and one day at a time. This leads

to the most common regret for the people when

they realize that their life is almost over and looking

back clearly on it, they find that many of them had

not honored even half of their dreams because of

the choices they made. One practical example

springs up from our daily lives, when we usually

waste much of our time in waiting. A survey re-

vealed that about 45 to 62 minutes everyday, we

waste in waiting ,in our college I think even more.

But why does it happens? Answers are many but one

aspect common to all is that we deep down on some

subconscious level, take “Today” for granted and imag-

ine that we have unlimited time left in our lives. We

don’t feel any urgency to take action write now. An-

other reason is that we don’t value our time. Finally we

end up by the Lucius Annaeus Seneca sayings “ We

are always complaining that our days are few, and

acting as though there would be no end of them”.

The secret to beating procrastination is that we

need to keep motivated. Every day we must do some-

thing, anything that motivates us, whether it’s listening

to our favourite song, going for that morning run or

simply reading some quotes. Every day we must moti-

vate ourselves because when we are motivated we

have energy, we have ideas and we have dreams and

we pursue those dreams with our unbounded faith

that we will achieve them and more though everyone

has a weakness, a gap in the castle wall, which is once

found, can prove to be a thumbscrew you can turn to

your advantage. We have the power to do whatever

we desire. So start working on your dreams today. Do

not silently accept waiting for a day that your life be-

gins. Make “Today” that “Day”.

“Your life is waiting for you to begin to take CONTROL

of it”

After entering this world, when we begin to learn,

our elders teach us to handle everything from our

right hand: eating, writing, reading, etc. excluding

the odd chore. If someone predominantly uses left

hand, he or she is forced to use his right one. Some

people change but few don‟t, and those who don‟t

lead the regime .There is a dominance of left hand-

ed people all over the world.

LEFT handed people are those who are most com-

fortable and inclined to use their left hand to write.

8-10% of world population is left handed; including

me. There are clear differences between the way the

left handed and right handed people think; they are

less common, that means they have a surprise ef-

fect .Lefties have some significant advantage over

right handed people. They tend to be more athleti-

cally inclined, have more spatial awareness and

think more quickly. Also, they have twice the prob-

lem solving skills and higher IQ than their counter-

parts.

be left or right handed is just not the natural selec-

tion. It is the God‟s creation of brain circuit, which

makes one left or right handed, and we are bound

to accept it .Being left or right handed has to do

with how the right and left side of the brain relate

to one another. Lefties have right hemisphere of the

brain dominating and righties have left one .If two

different handed people read and listen to music

simultaneously, lefty is supposed to concentrate

more on his study, and the righty will get lost in

the song. The right part of the brain is responsible

for critical thinking, image processing and left one

for entertainment like stuff, so if you are right

handed never try the music and math dual combo.

Marilyn Vas Savant, Guin-

ness book record holder with an IQ score of 228, is

left handed. She is a woman and perhaps women

have slightly more IQ than men, but they are emo-

tionally weak and have around thirty five gram less

brain than men, which comprises the issue and

lessen their dominance over the society.

Two major scientists our earth has witnessed; Al-

bert Einstein and Isaac Newton; were both left

handed. President George HW Bush, Barrack

Obama, Prince Charles and William, musician Jimi

Hendrix, Kurt cobain, Paul mcartney, Mozart, they

all were left handed.Julius Assange, Osama Bin

laden and One and Only Adolf Hitler also belongs to

the elite club of left handed people, which also in-

cludes artiste lady Gaga Madonna and Michael

Jackson.Back in the days, when fighting was an

important part of survival and winning mates, left

handed race comes out on the top; with examples

like Alexander the great and the Julius Ceaser.

However, using right side is considered a good

omen and it‟s also prescribed in our religious theo-

ry, such as entering the temple or mosque, putting

your right leg first.

Here human have a significant error, using left

hand for writing that means originally right side of

brain is used, from where

most of the positive ideas

generate.

If God had wanted me otherwise, he would have created me

otherwise...

Were you created to recite prayers for your next

day existence, to puff your belly, smoothen your

skin, make a loud laugh and relinquish your feats

of building a shelter of bricks for yourself or do

you feel I am just an arrogant guy too feeble to

understand that this world is a paper measure.

Make money and it gives you every answers, takes

you anywhere; will even buy a spaceship in case

the earth is exploding, will buy a scientist to tanta-

lize your mind over sci-fi stuff when you even don't

understand why the world is round when it ap-

pears flat. It has always been said that a scientist

will prefer to die in making dent in universe then to

die fluffing egos of wealth at earth. It will be, it will

always be and even if you snub a child when he

asks you 'why don't i see god?' So it would really

please those in heavens if we realize the true con-

tent of our life.

Probably, man is the most unfortunate guy, always

left to explore the planet ceaselessly without any

promise of permanent reward. He starts his jour-

ney as a child with REASON and LOGIC, the

inquisitive curiosity of the working brain, but be-

comes equally WIPED out of his planet without any

reason...in the name of the most dreadful syllable

called DEATH.

Have you seldom paused in the pace of your life,

to ask, “What will I take from this world?” “Will

these generous people always remain with

me?” “Will my voice will always be heard in this

world?” ''Will one day my lovely cheeks,

gleaming eyes and this soft heart will convert

into a rotten matter?” and more specifically ''Will

I always remain here as a living or dead, to com-

plain about my non existence and the other

worldly matters?" I think these questions have

been very easily avoided in the name of religion.

People have been so ignorant in even decipher-

ing the slightest intent of their purpose on earth.

Like a common man, we think in terms of short

clauses. Ignorance do really kills in the end.

But the funniest part of the whole mankind

equation is that our cosmos continue its growth.

It continues to shine. It continues to radiate as

if telling ''you wretched mortals, don't go for

temporary pleasures, go for the permanent

things because you cannot suck nature forever,

at the end of your life nature gulps you in one

go, all your temporary thoughts are sucked and

a fresh vacuum is created for a new life to begin,

for a new human to test.''As they say 'If god had

wanted me otherwise, he would have created me

otherwise and that otherwise is certainly not mon-

ey. Time to rethink as we should not wait, wake.

(What was all the fuss about?)

All of us have heard or read about Higgs Boson or

God particle for sure….but what actually „Higgs‟ or

„Boson‟ is….(probably God knows bet-

ter…!!).Through this article Ali Muzaffar tries to un-

fold what this Higgsmania is all about….

Human mind always try to penetrate every dimen-

sion in search of its so many “Why‟s?” and so many

„What‟s behind?‟ type questions. History events re-

cede in importance with every passing decade and

this importance became an enigma when we talk

about 12.5 billion year old events. Politics and elec-

tions can be seen and analysed. Even the horrors of

war acquire a patina of unreality. The laws of phys-

ics, though, are eternal and universal. Elucidating

them is one of the great triumphs of mankind.

July 4 2012, another step of mankind towards find-

ing answers of the never ending questions. Physi-

cists working in Geneva at Cern, the world‟s biggest

particle-physics laboratory announced that they

found the Higgs boson. Wooo…! Wait….What is

Higgs? What is boson? Why I read this stuff all over

my newspaper and then the same here. Phewww!!

Feeling this … Do you want answers? Well, let it be

simple.

Physicists have two working models of reality. One

is the Einstein‟s general relativity, which deals with

space time and gravity. This is an

elegant assembly of interlocked equa-

tions that poured out of a single mind

a century ago. The other is the Stand-

ard model that deals with everything

more messily.

Now, the question is on which model

our scientists are working to find the

missing part and the answer is the

Standard model. The Standard model,

a product of many minds, incorpo-

rates the three fundamental forces

that are not gravitational

(electromagnetism and the strong and

weak nuclear forces) and also a me-

nagerie of apparently indivisible parti-

cles: quarks, of which proton and

neutrons and thus atomic nuclei are

electrons that orbit those nuclei; and more rare-

fied beast such as muons and neutrinos. With-

out the Higgs, the math which holds this edifice

together would disintegrate.

Finding the Higgs though, made looking for nee-

dles in haystacks seem simple. The discovery

eventually came about using the largest human

machine ever made “Large Hadron Collid-

er” (LHC), in which bunches of protons were

sent round a ring 27km in circumference, in op-

posite directions , at speed close to that of light,

so that they collide head on. The faster the pro-

tons are moving, the more energy they have.

When they collide, this energy is converted into

other particles (famous equation of Einstein;

E=mc2) which then decay into yet more parti-

cles. The scientists were fighting with this elu-

sive mystery for decades in search of a pattern in

these decay particles that shouts “Higgs”. It was

indeed a Higgs mania all around whenever they

felt they were close but then the light disap-

peared. Remember!! How suddenly the news

started flashing, of a particle travelling faster

than light and your friends talking about the

oldphysics books to be thrown out. Woo, Indeed

it was a mania for the greatest minds in universe

working in a close area together for knowing God

more closely with his particle “God Particle”.

It was a quest of dreams. Peter Higgs, a British

Physicist and four other scientists were actually the

ones who, in 1964 , plucked what has come to be

known (unfairly in some eyes) as Higgs boson or

God particle from the formulae they were working

on to fix a niggle in quantum theory.

Now this discovery puts the finishing flourish on

the standard model, the best explanation to date

for how the universe works-except the domain of

gravity which is governed by general theory of rela-

tivity.

Scientists believe that world started with a big bang

12.5 billion years ago from the smallest and the

densest particle which we can‟t imagine. But the

story doesn‟t end here; it is just the answer in the

box of questions- How do galaxies form? How do we

have mass? What is dark matter? And lot many …

Higgs boson is supposed to be actually the mass

provider to every particle. The interaction with

Higgs determines how massive the particle is. We

can imagine curing any disease because we now

know how to make the brain tumours massless.

Anyways, it is just the beginning of another dimen-

sion of nature where by each passing day we feel

that we were so ignorant. But, till now the hunt for

physics‟ most elusive query is over and

scientists across the globe can crack

open a bottle of champagne. But the

reality lies within and I do believe that

this one answer is going to reveal mil-

lions of „whys?‟ for the science lovers

like us to keep pondering and working

on the creator‟s most fascinating inven-

tion “ Our beautiful Universe”.

showed you this morning?? Well, have a little fun

with it. Weight and Things puts Your weight into

perspective in a funny manner, comparing it with the

weight of other things in our universe. Sample this :

if you weigh 65 kgs, that`s the same as 20,800 tea-

bags, 3250 hours of film reel, 8,33,333 excited bees,

130 kitty cats, 115 basketballs or 22 billion grains of

sand. The information is presented with some cool

open source word database built by students and language

researchers. In short, it‟s a wonderful resource for writers,

teachers, students and almost anyone who loves words.

Learning about modern history and culture has never been so appealing. Google has just launched a website called

Cultural Institute that seeks to tell visually-rich, interactive stories about important events, beginning from the 1900s

till date. The interface takes the form of a timeline that scrolls from left-to-right with short write-ups, photographs and

videos; when available. The site seems quite conducive to touchscreen navigation as well. You can either search the site

based on decades. So, whether it`s finding more about the journey of Nelson Mandela or World War-II, you know where

to go.

Windows 8 is the current release of the Windows operating system, produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and

business desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater PCs.The operating system was released to manufacturing on August 1, 2012, and was

released for general availability on October 26, 2012.

Windows 8 introduces significant changes to the operating system's platform, primarily focused towards improving its experience on mobile

devices such as tablets to rival other mobile operating systems (such as Android and iOS), taking advantage of new and emerging technologies

(such as USB 3.0, UEFI firmware, near field communications, cloud computing, and the low-power ARM architecture), new security features

(such as malware filtering, built-in antivirus software, and support for secure boot, a controversial UEFI feature which requires operating sys-tems to be digitally signed to prevent malware from infecting the boot process), along with other changes and performance improvements.

Windows 8 also introduces a new shell and user interface based off Microsoft's "Metro" design language, featuring a new Start screen with a

grid of dynamically updating tiles to represent applications, a new app platform with an emphasis on touchscreen input, the new Windows

Store to obtain and purchase applications for the system, and the ability to synchronize programs and settings between multiple devices.

“” National progress is the sum total of the individual’s labour, honor, honesty and sympathy. Similarly, national downfall is the cumulative result of

the individual’s laziness, dishonour, dishonesty, selfishness and other weaknesses of character

A little lilting music and the chink of ice, new faces, smiles all along, resounding laughter- yes it is party time! Students need

moments to chill out. The very purpose of Freshers party is to welcome newcomers in a friendly atmosphere and avoid social

evils, to encourage their creative impulses to boost their confidence. Two such parties were organized in Z.H.C.E.T. recently .

Mekyos 2012 FRESHER’S PARTY OF MECHANICAL ENGG.

The II year mechanical engineering students organized a very energetic and grand

party to welcome their juniors to the college. The event was organized at the „The

Lamps of Peace‟-The Mechanical Lawn sand was filled with fun, food and frolic. The

professors also made themselves a part of this party and enjoyed with students the

whole fun and music.

Many musical bands like 9 Hunt Red also made to the stage thus making it a star

studded event. Titles of Mr. Fresher and Ms. Fresher along with the titles of

Mr. Evening and Mr. Dynamic, were awarded to the students.

The usp of the event was the ramp walk by all the juniors. Other events included

Sher-o-Shayari, mimicry and many other activities, all wrapped up in a packet of

laughter and joy which made the evening memorable to one and all.

Aaghaaz'12 The Beginning

The Fresher‟s Party, AAGHAAZ'12; organized on the October 14th by students of

2nd Year Electrical, was the first Senior-Fresher Interaction of this academic

session.

The program started with the recitation of Verses from Holy Quran, followed by an

Introductory Speech by „Tabish Imtiaz‟ and „Utkarshaa Varshney‟. Then the live per-

formances by „Jeff Foster‟ and „Mehul Kumar‟ enthralled the audience. After that,

Mr. and Ms. Fresher contest started with First round of Introduction. The juniors

worked hard to surprise and impress the gathering. It was followed by a

fantabulous performance by „Vaibhav Singh‟ who literally rocked the stage with his

sizzling number. Also some very interesting and entertaining games were

conducted by „Sagar Bharadwaj‟ and „Aqib Siddiqui‟.

The last and final round of the Mr. and Ms. Fresher Contest was a Situation Round

where Rahul and Monanshi stole the show and won the Mr. and Ms. Fresher Titles.

In addition to it, Mr. Spark was won by Umang Anil Gupta and Ms. High Voltage

was won by Anam Jawed.

The closing ceremony comprised of a Power Packed performance by our college's

own band 9 HUNT RED. Finally „Tapan Upadhyay‟ and „Shubham Parasher‟ along

with the organizers gave a performance finishing up the show, all moved to the de-

licious food...
