Lee’s Summit Medical Center Named One of the Nation’s Top Performing Hospitals Last month, Lee’s Summit Medical Center was named one of the nation’s top performing hospitals on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading accreditor of health care organizations.

“I know all the Lee’s Summit Medical Center physicians and staff strive to care for every patient using the best evidence-based medicine,” states

Damond Boatwright, president and chief executive officer. “Excellent health care is what we’re all about and we’re honored to be the only Missouri hospital in the Kansas City area to earn this recognition!”

Lee’s Summit Medical Center is being recognized for achieving quality thresholds in every key quality measure for which it provides care including heart attack, heart failure,

pneumonia, and surgical care.

In total, four HCA Midwest Health System hospitals are being recognized by The Joint Commission. This national recognition is based on data reported on 22 evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care.

CE2L, has launched a home hair testing kit at MyHairTest.com. The company, which performs energy and environmental testing, will expand its core competency into the environmentally-conscious consumer market accustomed to taking charge of their well being.

MyHairTest.com was created in an effort to educate and assist people in determining what their exposure levels to toxic elements may be.

Through the non-invasive mail service, individuals can test for the presence of toxic metals that may lead to cancer and several common pollutants such as lead, arsenic, and mercury as well as an entire array of other metals that include most of the nutritional metals such as

zinc, iron, calcium and sodium.

“Our company does not sell any other services, nutritional supplements, or therapies,” said Keith Koehler, President of Ce2l. “Most websites offering similar hair testing services also try to sell you ‘solutions’ in the form of unregulated vitamins or potentially dangerous therapies. In our opinion, this is wrong and misleading. Our objective is to remain totally unbiased. Your results are simply your results.”

Testing kits are available through the MyHairTest.com web site. Customers are assigned

a unique ID number that corresponds with their sample so all results remain completely anonymous. Every report is reviewed by a board certified MD Pathologist before being released to the customer in an effort to provide unbiased, objective results with a focus on public safety.

The Lee’s Summit Journal took home 36 awards at the 145th annual Missouri Press Association Convention and Trade Show, including the top prize for weekly newspapers in its class. The Journal was named the Gold Medal winner for large weekly newspapers by the Missouri Press Association.

“In the past year, we have done some of the finest and most in-depth reporting and writing here at the Journal that I have ever been a part of,” Journal Publisher John Beaudoin said. “This will

not be an award we just hang on the wall and tell a few people about. This award means something. It has to. And the responsibility that comes with being named one of the top newspapers in Missouri is great. It’s

an accountability that we will take seriously.”

In addition, the MPA also honored the Journal’s Assistant Editor Miranda Wycoff as an Outstanding Young Journalist.

Other awards included 13 first places, seven second places, eight third places and six honorable mentions.

Diversity Marketing... Part IWith the increasing diversity of its population, the Lee’s Summit community is becoming a mirror of the nation at large.

Research shows that diversity marketing that includes targeting multicultural groups can tremendously enhance your business. Minority populations and their buying potentials are growing everyday and their influence has a direct impact on your business.

To ensure that your business is relatable to all groups and does not hinder its growth in an ever-expanding market like Lee’s Summit, I am suggesting the following simple strategies:

• Include multicultural and multiethnic faces on your website and marketing materials is a great first step to showing you are interested in creating multicultural relationships. As an example, across the nation, more than 80 percent of college and

university websites have multicultural faces on its home page.

• Translate your flyers and major pages of your website in another language.

• Recruit diverse workforce and train them in understanding the culture of your organization as well as the local selling cultures.

• Add cross-cultural representation to your board of directors and advisory board.
