In today’s Gospel reading, we hear the invitation from the king to attend the wedding banquet.

The king’s servants are sent out to invite any and all after those first invited reject the invitation.

Obviously a metaphor, this reading is easily understood as God’s invitation to us and our

opportunity to accept or reject it. As our response to God’s invitation, we are asked to clothe

ourselves in gratitude, humility, and love as explained by St. Paul in the Second Reading.

God’s provident love is gracious and unconditional, inviting all to the banquet. We respond to

His love by in turn extending our gratitude, acting with humility, and sharing that love. All aspects

explained by St. Paul in last week’s reading.

I will be offering some Parish financial information today, taking the opportunity to express my

gratitude to each parishioner and family of St. Peter Chanel for their remarkable commitment and

generosity not only in support of the operation of the parish, but by demonstrating a continued

appreciation for the Works of Mercy through their charitable outreach. I will offer a few more

examples of your Good Works as I speak, but in this letter, allow me an opportunity to share my

appreciation and gratitude for this remarkable parish family.

See you at Mass,

“My God will supply whatever you need…”

PHILIPPIANS 4:19

God really does provide for those who are grateful and

generous. This is very difficult for people that don’t live

a stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skeptical

and say it’s just coincidence. If you are skeptical, try

living a stewardship lifestyle for just one month – be

generous with your gifts of time, talent and treasure and

see how God provides for your needs.

Second collection next Sunday for

“World Mission Sunday 2017”.

There will be special envelopes in the narthex and you

can use the SPC online payment page to make a

LOCAL EFFORT TO AID PUERTO RICO

In response to the unprecedented destruction

caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, several

Puerto Rican clergy and laity within our

Archdiocese are coordinating a special effort to

help the local dioceses there. The group is working

with Caritas Puerto Rico, a member agency of

Catholic Charities, to collect funds and supplies to

be shipped to Puerto Rico to assist in the relief

effort.

Cash donations from individuals may be sent to the

Chancery (Attention: Puerto Rico Relief) to defray

the costs of shipping and support the work of

Caritas. Desperately needed supplies include

bottled water, non-refrigerated milk, canned food,

batteries of all types, bed linens, baby food, and

disposable diapers. Volunteers are being sought at

the warehouse to prepare for shipping. Anyone

interested may contact Randy Ortiz (404-955-0684

Questions about becoming Catholic?

Or completing your Sacraments?

[email protected]

Victoria Lambo is journeying in RCIA, the process for adults to become Catholic and

receive Sacraments. She recently shared her thoughts on what she is learning about

the Church:

I came to view the Church in a different light. I had never really thought about the

profound intimacy of the Holy Spirit working through the Church, the body of Christ,

to connect people to God and each other. In the Protestant church, we shared

communion once a month, and recognized it as symbolic of the body of Christ. Now,

I have a renewed reverence for the Sacrament of Holy Communion, and find comfort

in thinking of the Church as an “earthly dwelling, a celestial place,” an “invisible

richness and a visible reality in the community.” I always felt like I could be with God

anywhere, and I still believe that to be true. However, when I became less active in

church community, I felt like an ember that had fallen off the flame. My faith seemed to be unwavering, but I didn’t

realize I was missing all that God wanted to share with me in the unity of His family. I pray for the Holy Spirit to fan

the flames of my heart, so that as a member of the body of Christ, I will accept and share God’s love in His Church.

Please join us in praying for all those journeying in the process to become Catholic and receive

Sacraments: Brittany, Kit, Shannon, Barry, Amanda, Daniele, Gail, Melissa, Zach, Roshonda, Kayla,

Jennifer, Victoria, Caitlin, Michael, Kathlyn, Rick, Jim, Danielle, Richard and Faye.

GIFT is in session this week while PSR and EDGE take a break. In this week’s Gospel, Jesus teaches about humility.

The parable of the wedding feast reminds us that God desires our wholehearted acceptance of his invitation to

salvation. As you gather as a family, discuss what you consider appropriate attire for various occasions. Take some

time to pray together as a family that you will respond wholeheartedly to God’s invitation to salvation.

asked to help out one Sunday per month. Please contact

Rosemary at [email protected] if you can

help with either of these ministries.

Life Night: Christian Atheist Life Night: Christian Atheist I believe in God, but don't fear Him

Sunday, October 15—6-8 pm

Our Life Night Series resumes this week with a focus on

fear of God. We hear a lot about how God loves us, so

what does it mean to fear Him? When we say, “you’re a

good, good father,” it doesn’t just mean “you give me

nice things.” It means he loves us like a parent should—

when we choose good and when we choose evil—but

out of love. He doesn’t want us to continue to make the

wrong choices. Bring a friend, and meet us in the Youth

Room for pizza followed by tonight’s program.

Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit,

That my thoughts may all be holy.

Act in me, O Holy Spirit,

That my work, too, may be holy.

Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit,

That I love but what is holy.

Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit,

To defend all that is holy.

Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit,

That I always may be holy.
