Recycling Market Has Three Segments:
1. Residential – Covered by City Curbside Recycling Program.
2. Large businesses – they bale and sell cardboard and paper.
3. Small to Medium Commercial:a) Affordable cardboard/paper recycling for ~
3,000 medium/small sized businesses.b) Plastic, styrofoam, newspaper, books, etc.c) Multi-family residential recycling.
Solution Problem:
Logistics – Cost is to high.
Strategy:1.Create a network that will route their cardboard/ paper from the waste stream to a recycler.2.Focus network output to GBNS recycling partner – DTK, LLC.3.DTK expands materials accepted to create a single source process.4.Expand the network to make the process self supporting.
Expand the network ...
• Locate new clients to service. Are you recycling, everything you can?Do you know others who would?
• Create a public drop off.Being built now at 11th and Madison
• Expand pick ups.• Add public drop offs.

Community-wide dry cell battery recycling.
GBNS Partner to prepare batteries for recycling
Battery FactsApproximately three billion dry-cell batteriesare purchased annually in the United States
or about three dozen per household
The Battery Project is targeted to collect and recycle dry-cell batteries in our community
About 179,000 tons used batteries are disposed in Landfills each year
Since 2008 Bunn has been working together to promote recycling dry cell batteries. 2008: Bunn’s Internal system alone, recycled 218 Ibs. of dry cell batteries
2009: expanded to Include Bunn employees and their families, 900 Ibs. of batteries recycled.
2010: with increasing community involvement 2400 Ibs. of batteries were recycled introducing the need for assistance from SPARC.
SPARC has become a project partner, introducing New avenues of battery collection, including the
Illinois National Guard andother significant contributors.
2011 Projection: 6,000 lbs + Dry Cell Batteries
