October 3, 2011 Your Rotary International Foundation Contribution at Work (From top left, Floyd Lancia Dr Jonathan Walker, and Amber Recker from the Anthony Wayne Club) “A little bit of resources can have an exponential return.” With those words, Dr. Jonathan Walker, past district governor Floyd Lancia, and Anthony Wayne Rotarian Amber Recker shared the impact of Rotary International’s work to establish and support the only free eye care clinic in Nicaragua, the second poorest country in Central America. Rotary International Foundation provided a matching grant to create this service, which now looks to acquire diagnostic equipment doctors can take out from the clinic to reach people in need. While contributing to our club’s foundation is part of our dues obligations, contributions to the Rotary International Foundation truly “fuels the work of Rotary.” More about Rotary’s international and local foundations can be found in the pages of this week’s Spin.

More Information About This Saturday’s Rotary Circle of Hope Clean-Up Day

Our club’s environmental committee reminds us that the next Clean-Up Day for the Rotary Circle of Hope - Rivergreenway Section is this Saturday, October I. Fort Wayne Rotary has Headwaters Part East, the portion of the downtown park east of Clinton Street, and the section that contains both the Rotary Circle of Hope and the Rotary Avenue of Trees. There is parking off Clinton Street at the south end of Headwaters Part East. We will meet at the two block houses near the Lincoln Pavilion in the parking lot at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 1. The Park Department has asked Rotary to particularly work the river bank picking up litter and debris. We will circle the park perimeter, the Circle of Hope section, the Avenue of Trees and then check the center section. After clean-up work, please assemble for lunch at Coney Island downtown where your first hot dog is "on the house!” Questions? Contact Bill Gabbard, [email protected]

Foundation Giving Report --- Rotary Year 2010-11 (from Mike Crabill, District Governor)

Rotarians of District 6540 can feel especially proud of their efforts to support the Annual Programs fund of the Rotary Foundation. Last year marked another very successful year in giving to the Rotary Foundation. At the beginning of the year D6540 clubs had set a goal of raising almost $239,000. They ended the year beating that goal by 138% and finished with $330,370 raised for the Foundation. Our per capita average for the entire District was $120.38. This marks the fourth year in a row that our members have given over $300,000 to the Foundation. Our top club in per capita giving was Kentland which averaged $571 per member. Coming in second and third were Elkhart Morning ($402) and Demotte- Kankakee ($393). All in all, 27 of our 55 clubs finished the year averaging over $100 per member. It also marked the 5th year in a row of every club contributing to the Foundation. We also raised $71,300 in our End Polio Now Gates Foundation Challenge (see next article) and had $97,185 contributed to the Permanent Fund of the Foundation. When adding these figures to our Annual Programs Fund, total giving to the Foundation in 2010- 11 stood at $498,855. To all Rotarians a heartfelt thanks for your generosity and support of the good works of the Foundation.
