West Bend Community Memorial Library October 2020 Newsletter National Library Card Sign-Up Scavenger Hunt As we finish up National Library Card Sign-up Month for September, join us in celebrating by participating in a library scavenger hunt. Pickup a scavenger hunt card at any service counter and return it by Saturday, October 3. All are welcome to participate. Two winners (one child and one adult) will receive a West Bend Library book bag with prizes. Winners will be announced Monday, October 5. Per Governor Evers' order, wearing a face covering is REQUIRED while using the library. Our social distancing policy remains in effect - please keep your visits brief, and limit the number of people in your group as much as possible. Please call us if you need help requesting items, or to learn more about your pickup options. Thank you for helping keep our staff and our community safe! Every Monday we have themed take home Storytime Kits! Each kit contains: 1. Letter ofthe Week, 2. Short Story, 3. Song lyrics, and 4. Craft! Pick up a take home Storytime Kiton Mondays beginning at 9 AM at the table in front of the Children's Information Desk.Kits usually last 3 days before we run out, so stop in each week while supplies last.

Library Tote Bags for Sale!

To kick off National Library Card Sign-Upmonth, the West Bend Library is sellingtote bags starting September 1. Thesesturdy canvas bags have the West BendLibrary logo so you can check out yourwhole stack of goodies! Bags are $7.00each, cash or check, and are available atthe library's main checkout desk. Allproceeds go to the West Bend Library.

A new StoryWalk is up! StoryWalk® is aninnovative and delightful way for children —and adults! — to enjoy reading and theoutdoors at the same time. Laminatedpages from a children's book are attachedto wooden stakes, which are installed alongan outdoor path.

The StoryWalk begins near the entrance ofthe library, and follows the sidewalk to ourbeautiful Patrons Park! There are17 stakes. The story is Pumpkin Trouble byJan Thomas!

Kiwanis Early Risers FamilyNight with Smarty Pants

Monday, October 12 at 6:30PM

Join us for a Zoom Big BalloonShow presentation! We'll have anawesome, hilarious balloon showlive and 10 minutes of a Q & Awhere the kids can "ask Smartyanything"!

We will also have a portion of the live Zoom presentation where Smarty Pants teaches thechildren how to make a fun toy out of balloons! Stop into the library to pick up a small packof balloons (after October 1), or buy a pack on your own (of at least 10) round balloons atany store (Dollar Tree)!

Registration for the Zoom program required! We need you to register, so we can send youthe Zoom Meeting ID the day before the program! Sign up here!

Salem Witch Trials with Jessica MichnaTuesday, October 13 at 7 PM

Reservations are required. Step back in time with Jessica Michna, famous impersonator,as she embodies Goode Rebeka Nurse. Hear Rebeka's story and how she became one ofthe oldest women to be hanged as a witch. Reservations are required to adhere toCOVID-19 restrictions. Space is limited. Sign up at the Reference Desk in-person or byphone at 262-335-5152. The program will also be presented on Facebook Live at thesame time.

Crafting Saturday isNow Take Home Kits!

Crafting Saturday, the monthly craft programfor adults, will be take-home kits for the rest of2020. Kits will be available one Saturday per month at 10 am. Kits are no cost, thoughdonations are greatly appreciated to help cover the cost of supplies. Kits are availablefirst-come, first-served basis.
