Brothers and Fellow Knights… The Month of October is looking to be a very exciting month! There are several exciting and challenging events on the calendar.

Summer is fast fading and the cooler temps of Fall are approaching… I hope!

Knights of Columbus Prayer

O Almighty and Eternal God, Lord of the Universe, sustain us, we beseech Thee, o’er the course of

“life’s tempestuous sea.”

Keep us, we pray Thee, secure within the Bark of Peter, ever trustful of Christ and His Vicars to

guide us along the ways of peace and prosperity.

May Jesus, Our Saviour, PRESERVE US IN THE UNITY OF THE Holy Faith and confirm our

hopes of sharing its treasures with America. Send forth the power and love of the Holy Spirit, that we may

be blessed in our efforts to set forth Thy glory in this land under the patronage of Mary’s Immaculate

Conception. Let our Fraternity flourish in justice and charity and give eternal praise and glory to the Most

Holy Trinity. Be mindful of each of our Brothers, departed, and receive them into the heaven of eternal

peace.

MARY IMMACULATE, Mother of the Knights of Columbus of California, Pray for us.

Father McGivney Prayer God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney o n earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PROGRAMS DIRECTOR/DEPUTY GRAND KNIGHT Brothers… A few of you missed the first porker night at the hall. Let me tell you, it was a great event. We shared brotherly company, in a relaxing setting, enjoying appetizers and drinks. You don’t want to miss the next one. I for sure won’t. A reminder to note, the last part of this wonderful year is approaching at lightning speed and our favorite event will fill up so fast that you might miss out so please volunteer and commit as early as you can so we can start moving forward. And lastly, remember to invite someone to join our council. If you are able to invite one hundred - we can accommodate

DGK, SK Valentin Godina\Programs Director

Please keep our WWII Knights in your prayers. We are very fortunate to (potentially) have three surviving WWII vets as members of our Council. Two are close enough for us to see fairly frequently,

Br. Alfred Rocca and SK Randy Bohse who is recovering well from recent injuries. The third, Br Medford Hollis, lives out of state and we don’t have a good handle on the status of his health. The last time he

was visited he looked to be in very good health. The birthdates these Brothers range from 1920 to 1925 so our prayers may be as important for them now as they were in WWII.

High Desert Squires Circle 4306

The Squires Circle 4306 are branching out to the other parishes in the Victorvalley to recruit new candidates and counselors. On September 16th we had a successful membership drive at Christ the Good Shepherd in Adelanto. We invested three new members in September with three possible candidates being invested in October. I would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to Fr. Canice, Deacon Santos, Worthy GK Jerry Burns and the members of St. Juan Diego council. On October 13th & 14th, the Squires will be traveling to Our Lady of the Desert for our second stop on this membership tour. Please send us your prayers that we have another successful membership drive. These young men are the future of our church as well as future Knights of Columbus. I pray that many of you realize this and find a way to help mentor these young men by becoming Squire Counselors. If anyone is interested, please contact me at the following: [email protected] 760 956-7572 h 760 995-6469 m Thank You, Vivat Jesus!

Is this symbol familiar to you? It should be. This is the symbol of the only womens organizations connected to the Knights of Columbus. It is an organization for women and they have a separate group for under eighteen years of age. Many Councils down the hill are supported in their efforts by the Columbiettes for fund raising and events. Many are confused thinking the Catholic Daughters are affiliated with the Knights of Columbus. Google it.

CORPORATE BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED! Because of “conflict of interest” clauses, it was necessary that two key members relinquish their office thus there are some very interesting positions to fill. The Board meets once each month and the Directors are faced with interesting challenges. The Directors are the ones who make sure we have a place to meet. All knights are eligible, but you must show your interest by submitting your name to the Council Trustees. It can be very fulfilling.

Let’s not forget – Our Lady of Fatima the Rosary Rally

My brothers,

Saturday, October 13, is the 101st anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s last apparition to the peasant children in Portugal, and as you probably know, the Blessed Virgin is the Protectress of the Unborn. In honor of this, we would like to publicly pray the Rosary in front of the Call for Life Pregnancy Help Center, asking for our Mother's intercession to protect the unborn. The address of Call for Life is 15800 Main Street, Hesperia. We would do three prayers: the Prayer for the Unborn, the Holy Rosary, and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I would ask you to please put this event on your calendars and let’s all work together to ask for our Blessed Mother’s intercession to bring an end to the scourge of abortion

This will be a statement of our Order’s strong commitment to life. To emphasize this

meaningful and significant event, we will need to have as many Knights as possible in

attendance. The event should not be only Knights. Encourage your wives, children and

family members as well as friends, Catholic or not. We should have a minimum of fifty

people in attendance. Seventy would be even better. We cannot block access to the site,

nor can we block the street, but there is adequate space for this number of people.

TICKETS FOR RIDES AND FOOD ARE $1.00 – Keepin’ it simple!

And being only one day in the cooler(?) month of the Fall season means you can enjoy more rides, play more games and eat more

food (because of all that other stuff burns calories!).

SO, BRING YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILIES AND THOSE YOU ADMIT TO BEING YOUR FRIENDS AND HAVE A WONDERFAL FALL DAY. A great

way to contribute to Holy Family Church.

POKER NIGHT!

September 21st at High Desert Hall 15163 Aspen Street Hesperia

The kick off evening in August was great. A larger group would be nice but those who attended seemed to be genuinely pleased with the inaugural event.

This is a social event for Knights from all councils of the High Desert and an opportunity get together and interact in a less than business atmosphere. Nothing to

prepare, no schedules to develop or work to perform. Just sit back, relax (if you can do that in an intense game) and enjoy being with Brother Knights just to have fun. The doors will open at 6:30PM and the dealing begins at 7:00. The format will be Texas

Hold’em. There’s a $10 buy in with one option to re-buy. Each player will receive 500 chips. For more details call Jay Mingus @ 760-981-4495
