Luke 18:1 Then Jesus told his disciples a
parable to show them that they should
always pray and not give up.
As I have studied over the past several weeks in preparation to preach on the Beatitudes, a constant thought has simply been: How can I possibly live out these commands? Christ pulled no punches in the Sermon on the Mount. Rather than lowering the bar so that we could easily be successful, he raised the bar by calling his followers to a lifestyle that is drastically different from the world around us. Reading through those verses found in Matthew 5-7 can be discouraging…if your focus is on how YOU can fulfill them in your own strength and power. However, as I have read these chapters repeatedly, the Lord has reminded me that it is not up to me, but instead Christ living through me! We can live a life of faith and obedience that is pleasing to God when we remember that we walk not by our own power, but by the power of Christ. As Paul wrote to the Galatians, "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Gal. 2:20, ESV). So rather than be discouraged, have faith! We’ll continue our series through the Sermon on the Mount in October: Oct. 7 - Matthew 5:8 Oct. 14 - Matthew 5:9 Oct. 21 - Matthew 5:10-12 Oct. 28 - Matthew 5:17-20 (Lord’s Supper in both morning services) I’m looking forward to the month ahead and expecting God to do great things in our midst! Bro. Jeff
Pastor’s Pen The Supreme Judge
As I began to write this month’s newsletter
article, there is much “sturm und drang” in the
public discourse regarding the confirmation (or
not) of a Supreme Court nominee. However, I
was reminded in a quiet moment this morning
that there is truly only one Supreme Judge and
He is a righteous Judge to whom all are
accountable.
1I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. 5But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
6For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. (2 Timothy 4:1-8) (NASB)
May our Lord Jesus bless you and keep you…
In Christ,
Gary Redding

This year we are accepting donations of items for the shoeboxes and/or
money donations for the items and shipping. We will be collecting now
through the end of October. A list of suggested items can be found in the
welcome center of the sanctuary and children’s building. Please place all
donated items in the labeled bins around the church. Our children’s missions programs will be
packing the boxes this fall as a part of a mission project. Deadline to bring items in October
28th.

We would like to encourage our senior saints to come join us. We will be practicing for our
Choir Tours to nursing homes that place in December.
We are so thankful to everyone playing a part in our choir’s
presentation of “Crimson Gospel.” As of this writing, we are looking
forward to this upcoming Sunday evening’s program.
Music is deeply rooted in our souls. And for followers of Jesus, it is a
powerful means of encouraging each other along the journey of faith. Paul urged the believers
in Colossae, “Let Christ’s teaching live in your hearts, making you rich in the true wisdom.
Teach and help one another along the right road with your psalms and hymns and Christian
songs, singing God’s praises with joyful hearts” (Col. 3:16 Phillips).
Singing together to the Lord embeds the message of His love in our minds and souls. It is a
powerful ministry of teaching and encouragement that we share together. Whether our hearts
cry out, “Create in me a pure heart, O God” (Ps. 51:10), or joyfully shout, “And he will reign
forever and ever” (Rev. 11:15), the power of music that exalts God lifts our spirits and grants
us peace.
Let us sing to the Lord today. Bart Starr
Thank You, Lord, for Your gift of music. We sing Your praise together and learn more of Your love and
power.
