LAUGHING GULLS
Reporter:Vickie Sullivan
WOW, it is hard to believe that the Gulls are graduating from the NRC. The two years have flown by and this is my last report for the newsletter. Joining the NRC was one of the best things that happened to us. The friends we have made, the fun we have had, not to mention the food and drink. Okay, we won't mention ALL the food and drink. However, the fun is not over. We still plan on having our monthly potlucks, attending NRC activities such as Cocktails on the Cape, Ladies Luncheon and more. A big thank you to Loretta and Liz for hosting our September potluck. Our October potluck will be hosted by Bob and Tina. Plans are in the work for our Gulls Christmas Party. The Lady Gulls have started playing Bunco again after a summer hiatus and our Tops Down group is going strong. Our August Tops Down group visited Sanibel, ate at the Island Cow and took a ride through Ding Darling. Good time had by all. All of our Gulls have returned to the nest except for Sandy and Peter who are traveling through Europe and will be home in October. Happy Birthday to Bob Loftus (10-7) our lone October birthday. Next time you see us remember: GULLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!

CORKSCEWERS
Reporter: Leslie Vaughan
Wow! Is it fall already? The Sunset Celebration is starting back up! The Downtown Cape Coral Farmer's Market will be open outdoors again! Our snowbirds are heading back! It's almost time for Halloween! Yep. It's fall. Hooray! The
Corkscrewers have stayed as active as ever all summer, and now, into early autumn. Several of us went to Punta Gorda for Live After 5. After we survived a huge rain storm, we had fun shopping and eating dinner at a cute little Dominican cafe. Our previous birthday/anniversary dinner was at Bonefish, and this time we went to Maria's. Both outings were enjoyable, as always. We continue to try our luck at bowling. We have a small, but dedicated group, who are loving that activity! Pat and Tom Dillard had a Labor Day celebration, and the weather, food and company couldn't have been better! Thanks guys. Tom had just gotten back to the Cape from visiting his adorable grandkids. The next potluck is at Louise's house. We're anxious to go visit Louise, and hear all about the wonderful Hawaiian vacation that Linda, John, Gail and Kevin had in September. No doubt it was a fabulous trip! The Wallicks traveled to Chicago for the wedding of a long time family friend. We sure do stay busy! Wishing all NRC members lots more treats than tricks on October 31st, and always.

Welcome to warm October in Cape Coral! Big thanks to Jim and Elegra for an awesome football themed Potluck- everything was yummy!!! Kathy and John Munster will be back in Cape Coral for all of the October festivities. They had an awesome summer in Ajijic, Mexico. Kay and Randy celebrated their 16th anniversary and Kay’s birthday in New York City. They took a big chunk out of the “Apple”. Debbie and Bob went up to Buffalo for 4 weeks for a wedding and to catch up with friends and her brother. On the way home they stopped at Rick Hendricks Motorsports and enjoyed seeing all his trophies and cars. Bob has begun volunteering at Cape Coral Police Dept and Debbie is volunteering at Cape Coral Hospital. They went on the Bacon Trolley ride with friends and had a blast. Who doesn’t love bacon??!! Bob and Cyndi had a visit from her brother and his wife from Tn. They all took the ferry to Key West where fun was had on Duval St. Back home they spent some quality beach time on Sanibel.

SUN RAYS
Reporter– Barb Swann
Another fun-filled month has passed. Bocce, Bunco, Dominoes, dancing, dining, enjoying SW Florida. Neil hosted a great Potluck and it was so good to see everyone. Despite a hot evening and annoying no-se-ums, we had a very enjoyable evening. Thank you, Neil. Our next monthly dinner with be held at the home of Jane and Nick. We expect the usual good time, good food and drink, and good fellowship.
Not everyone could attend the potluck; Anne & Dave, Tina & Micah, and Jane were all out of town. Of course we continue to miss Elaine & Joe. However, Elaine is back home, recuperating. She and Joe continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. The SunRays will be hosting a luncheon with Elaine and Joe as Elaine recovers. Jan had her surgery and is doing well. Jane has been up north with grandkids having fun.
Ceil arranged a luncheon at Rosie’s Tomorrow Heritage Farm. Check it out, nice place, good food. Ann, Dave, Richie, Ceil, Barb, Diana S. Bette D. Neil, and Louise enjoyed the food, company, and touring the farm. Louise and Barb did have some difficulty telling cows from bulls, but Neil was able to straighten them out.
Ceil participated in the blood drive and We Care to honor our police. She joined several NRC graduates to see Wizard of Oz at Broadway Palm theatre, and tried to stay cool by going to movies several times this month, and she and Rich are now heading to Jetty beach in Nokomis, checking out all the beaches for us. Check with her for her recommendations.
Two members of the SunRays and other NRC members are attending the Cape Coral Citizens’ Academy. It is a 13-week seminar that informs citizens of the operations of Cape Coral, meeting with several Council Members and touring several parks and an art studio. Future
meetings will include meetings with the Police Department, Department of Community Development, Historical Society and League, Charter Schools, and Fire Services. This is a very informative course and it is recommended that all NRC residents take this course.
Several SunRays met at the Duke of Germany Restaurant as an advance team to determine the likelihood of having a SunRays dinner there. The SunRays enjoyed the dinner, or maybe the free glass of beer (with coupon) and would consider scheduling another dinner there.
We welcome back Marlene as she was visiting family and friends in Virginia. Don’t let the Northerners tell you it doesn’t get hot up there. It was 102 degrees with humidity in Virginia.
The SunRays’ next Bunco meeting will be hosted by Linda. We are having a fun time trying to win the “funco”. Who knew you could win money rolling dice! Thanx to Bev, Linda, and Marlene for setting this up for us.
Let’s hear what the rest of you have been doing.

HULA HOOTERS
Reporter: Alan Poland
It’s been a slow summer for most of the Hula Hooters who burrowed down to keep cool…just coming up to party, swim, boat and have fun. Hooters give a hoot even when it is hot, hot, hot! Our big news is that several Hooters have volunteered to serve on the NRC Board starting in November. They are as follows: President Gary M. Eldred (Our Chief Hooter) 2nd Vice President Jennifer Raby Treasurer Tim Timion Ladies Luncheon Sandy Smith and Kathy Johnson Now that the flock is more than a year old, members have settled into enjoying one another at dinner dances, potluck meals, lady luncheons, going to movies, playing trivia and bunco, fishing and boating. We have helped each other when time to move into new nests. Hooters can be spotted riding bikes, motorcycles, fast cars and enjoying the hot beaches of the Sunshine State.

Lady Hooters are quickly becoming known for cooking up a storm of yummy dishes to share when Hooters flock together. The men Hooters do a pretty mean job of serving a wide variety of liquid refreshment to go with the food. And Hula Hooters often can be heard giving a loud and enthusiastic Hoot, Hoot, Hoot! and shouting “Life is good.”

CORAL CAPERS
Reporter: Kim Garrity
This past month the BBB got together and had a beach day at Ft Myers Beach. Ten of us gathered to have lunch at Junkanoo's on the beach. Julie and Mark held their 'Baconfest' at their home. There were so many bacon associated foods and beverages, all were very GOOD. Julie and Kim met up with a few others for line dancing at Dixie Roadhouse. A group gathering was held at Micheli's last week. What a great turnout, 22 of us met up and had a great time. Jeannie H. was gone for 2 months and is back home here in the Cape after celebrating a couple of weddings with her family back in Wisconsin.

NAUTI CRABS
Reporter: Chris Gust
October will be the one year celebration for the Nauti Crabs. What a great way to move to a new city and join a group that introduces you to new places and best of all meeting new friends. We have been blessed.
We dodged a bullet and hopefully the rest of hurricane season leaves Cape Coral alone. Now that the true heat and humidity of summer is almost over our Sun birds are back to roost at their Florida home. Welcome back Pam and Dan, Dale and Cheryl, and Dale and MaryAnn who left the snow in Utah thank goodness. Now the Nauti Crabs can get back in full swing. I must say that the one thing I miss from home is all the different flowers I would plant. I spent hours deciding what colors I would use in my pots for the decks. I so enjoyed working in the garden tending my flower beds and fresh vegetables. Coming up with creative ideas to keep the deer from eating my roses and tulips. I have tried to work outside here like I did in Washington. I have researched all the different plants to add around the house. Spend hours at the nursery asking questions. Now
to begin. I get my gardening clothes on I'm all excited to do what I love. I go outside and the sweat runs down my face into my eyes, my clothes are soaked, I can't see out of my
glasses from the sweat and all I accomplished was putting my garden gloves on. I didn't see the sign when we drove into Florida that the humidity will get you first. Man that pool feels good! I'm not sure my neighbors have seen me in a suit. I'm always jumping in the pool with my clothes on.
Bowling has been a real strike with the Nauti Crabs we are up to a group of 11 and would love more to join us. One thing for sure you don't have to be good just come for fun and laughs.Or just come and visit. A small group of us will begin bocce in the near future. The women in our group are loving the ladies luncheons. Potlucks are on the horizon and our first fall potluck is being hosted by the Rooney's. So hopefully our Nauti Crabs that are still employed will join us again as well as those we haven't seen in a long time. With the sunset celebration on the horizon our fearless leader is hoping the ladies are practicing their kicks for the conga line.

PARTY PALMS
Reporter: Ted and Carolyn Clark
Its fall again and how can you tell? in Florida the license plates start to change color. Tricia and Dale have been building a solid team of trivia buffs at Overtime pizza on Wed. nights. Terry and Ted took to the high seas again and this time caught some Crevalle Jack fish in the 5 lb. range. We didn’t have a potluck in September however Ted and Carolyn hosted a “fall bash” cocktail party with all attendees dressed “to the nines” with that little black number for the gals and slacks for the guys. Ted made his famous appletinis and pumpkintinis and everyone brought finger food to pass around. Rhonda, Charo, Sherry, Patti (honorary Party Palm) and Karal went on the Ecological Dolphin tour out of Rum Runners. They enjoyed a lunch at Picnic Island, swimming, shelling and saw a fascinating array of wildlife. We celebrated Charo’s birthday on Monday 9/19 at Aji Limon, the Peruvian restaurant but no one seems to know how old she is - Charo not the restaurant. Ted’s sister Linda and brother-in -law Danny moved to Cape Coral and quickly adjusted to life on the Cape. Bobby and Charo travelled north to Woodstock NY (yeah that Woodstock which coincidentally Bobby claimed to have been there but I always heard that if you went to the original one, you wouldn’t remember it or if you did remember you probably weren’t there) to attend

Bobby’s nephews’ wedding. Bud and Rhonda (actually Bud) are planning a trip to the Keys for big game fishing for the boys but if you’ve only caught 5 lb. Jacks, are you ready for a 100 pound Tarpon? (see sentence 3 above). Some of the guys also consumed a few beers on a pub crawl in Fort Myers recently and several of the Party Palms attended the monthly wine tasting at the Waterside Wine Club at Cape Harbor Marina. A few members also attended a lecture on and tasting of Italian wines at the Waterside on Sunday 9/25. The only way to experience a wine is to try it! Finally, those members who didn’t take the 3 hour ecological tour took a 6 hour class on saltwater fishing in SW Florida taught by Capt. Gary and offered by Cape Coral Parks and Recreation at the Yacht Club. We planned a presidential debate party but Cocktails on the Cape had higher priority. I hope you enjoy the presidential debates and remember it’ll be like a car accident, where you can’t stand it but you can’t look away.

There were more exciting times for No Egrets this month despite half the group being “up north”. · 4th of July party at Jayne and Ron’s · Dinner on the `12th of July at Pinchers · Middle of the month at the beach for “extra” sunset celebration · Fun time at Flippers Bay
· Pub call by boat to Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Café · Large group at Seven Oaks Wood Fired Cuisine · Ladies’ Luncheon at Misto Bar and Grill where Lori, Susan, and Ollie put their princess on. Ollie Liberace really dolled up for it! · Trivia every Friday with strong showings · Bocce on Wednesdays followed by dinner and drinks Away from Florida,
· Our Halloween Queen, Raylene, has finished her costumes.
· Cate, Linda, and Nancy got together for dinner in MN. · Lori and Dave were on the road having fun adventures up
the East Coast on their way to Canada. · Ollie had a blast at her class reunion in Fort Lauderdale. · Nancy’s youngest got married in MN – across the bay from John and Cate’s house!!! · Ron might be working for the government. He continues to work on US/Canadian relations. It’s hard to believe that in a little over a month the northern contingent will start trickling back into the fold!

Some of our group attended ladies luncheon at Misto’s food was excellent. Group residents also attended Dominos Game Night and Men’s Breakfast and Ladies Luncheon. Cathy and Bert Chaney will host July potluck. Linda Turner and Emily Main have purchased supplies and are constructing the craft for the table centerpiece. The July’s Ladies Luncheon was so much fun everyone laughed and laughed. Our group M/M won second place with a highly decorated toilet seat. Bert and Kathie hosted a pot luck at their home and made margaritas for everyone on their margarita frozen ice machine. The dessert table was fabulous with lots of chocolate desserts. Madeline K prepared a chocolate cake that was outstanding. The margarita glass centerpiece was unveiled for the first time. Bert and Kathie reported that they had drinks at Backsteets Sports Bar. Cindy Drongoole reported she ate Burritos at 3 Pepper Burrito Company with Robert Olson. They stated the food was good and had a friendly wait staff. Cindy also was enjoying her grandchildren this month.

BAD BUOYS & NAUTI GULLS
Reporter: Michele McKay
NEWS FLASH!!! We’d like to welcome our two new members, yes one little Buoy and one little Gull. BB &NG Members, Jennifer & Scott, picked up their puppies and are very busy with house breaking and puppy proofing their home. Patience is the key for this new adventure in their lives.
Other news…
A few ladies got together at Martha’s for a creative crafting session to build our BB & NG’s centerpiece (some may call it a Master Piece!!). It was amazing to see it come together with contributions from each one of the “artists”, true creative teamwork, and it even lights up!! And a special thanks to Neal for having the official
sign made for us.
At the Tailgating Party it was especially amusing to see all the different football teams being represented. Deflate Gate was a topic at our dinner table. New England Patriots were well represented and very much harassed. You know who you are!
Four competitive couples met for Game Night and tried to play Jane & Chuck’s game, Mad Gab. It was obvious that it was easier for some than others. So onto the next game, Valerie & Michael’s Mexican Train game. Learning the basics of the game was relatively easy, but oh BUOY, lots of strategy is involved in that one. Congratulations to all our Meat and Beer Raffle winners, still waiting for a BB & NG barbeque to taste test the winnings.
Jane, Jennifer, Linda Y. and Bob all enjoyed an afternoon on the Ecological Boat Tour. The 3-hour tour brought them to Picnic Island, and back again to Rum Runners. Dolphins, manatees, jelly fish, an eagle, GULLS and other animals were spotted on the tour. The boat ride was entertaining in itself, just a fun day with some fun friends from BB & NG and other NRC members too.
Can’t go without mentioning Thursday Morning Bowling and how much fun everybody is having getting together for just a few hours every week. Chuck seems to be the one to beat. Good going, Chuck!
And then there was Trivia Night with extremely difficult questions for our extremely intelligent team. OK, so one of those “extremes” might not be true. That’s all we have to say about that.
And last but not least, Pot Luck at the home of Martha & Dave was a great time for everybody. So much delicious food and such great stories just strengthened our group a little bit more.
But ohhhh, all the scrumptious calories our Buoys and Gulls are consuming, maybe we should be planning long walks or bike rides when the weather cools off a bit…..just sayin’.

NRC MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
October 2016
Pat McCoy
President, Board 98
Greetings NRC Members and NRC Graduates! It is hard for me to believe that this is my last President’s Message. It has been an amazing 5 months and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as NRC President! It wouldn’t have been nearly so enjoyable without Board 98 members working with me to bring the NRC great events and lots of fun and laughter! I would like to thank Board 98 for their efforts and dedication and for working with me in achieving many accomplishments that will certainly benefit our Club! First and foremost, it was an extreme pleasure to welcome more than 150 new members in the past 5 months with a September membership of 50 - the highest September membership on record! (that we were able to find). Word of mouth from our members is still the best way for potential members to learn about our Club and contributes to our continued growth! And, the work of the Board, behind the scenes, provided the membership with many enhanced services and great events! Here are just a few of Board 98’s accomplishments: updated NRC website including pictures, added on line member application and on line dues payment, created a PayPal shopping cart for activities to make payment easier for members, introduced “just dance” events and lowered ticket costs, upgraded newsletter software application and treasurer software application, revised NRC brochure used to recruit new members, purchased a publicity table and created a new NRC banner used to advertise the Club, sponsored WE CARE for our Cape Coral Police Department, participated in 2 quarterly blood drives with excellent membership participation and we are now beginning to collect toys for the Toys for Tots Program for Christmas. I am so very proud of the work we accomplished this term and grateful to Board 98 for their enthusiasm and efforts in achieving these accomplishments. All of this, along with holding fabulous events for our membership to enjoy, provided a great term of entertainment and fun for the NRC membership. All of the above accomplishments will assist Board 99, and future NRC Boards, in continuing the long standing tradition of the NRC. As we enter our 50th year, I look forward to working with Board 99 and celebrating the continuing successes of the New Resident Club of Cape Coral. With that, I bid you farewell and look forward to seeing you at future NRC events!!! To Friends, Fun and Laughter! Pat McCoy NRC President, Board 98
