U.S. Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced a
resolution designating the week beginning September 11th as “National Direct
Support Professional Recognition Week.” This year’s resolution marks the
ninth consecutive year of recognition by the U.S. Senate for this essential
workforce! To celebrate this important week, Unlimited Care randomly chose a
$25 gift card winner each day of the week and also planned and organized an
appreciation picnic at DelGrosso’s Park on September
17th! About 350 staff and family members showed up for
food, face-painting, rides, and basket giveaways. All of the
baskets that were chanced off were donated by in-office
staff members or supportive community members.
Our dearest DCW’s — THANK YOU, a million times,
for all you do!

Amber Ellis holds many different titles in her life, from caregiver to
Office Assistant and photographer to mom, she is a busy lady! Amber
joined the office staff about three weeks ago and looks forward to
helping out our DCWs because she knows, first-hand, what the job
entails. Amber is a quick learner with a
bubbly, refreshing personality. When she’s
not working, she loves to spend time with
her family and do photography. She looks
forward to a long-term position here
helping the agency become a better, more
relatable place to work.

Learning braille as an adult is similar to learning a new language.
In addition to memorizing the dot configurations of the alphabet,
numbers, punctuation, and contractions, you also need sufficient
finger sensitivity to feel the dot combinations.
The work you do every day is selfless and admirable. We
were honored to celebrate you and we are working to make
sure you know your voice is heard and you are appreciated.
Thank you for all you do for this agency and community.
