This is a busy time of the year, what with Regionals, Na-tionals and holidays right around the corner. It is also a busy time for IDCTA. This is the time of year we elect new members to the board and fi ll positions that are being vacated by current board members. We are looking for riders, trainers and interested parties to join our Board of Directors. Prerequisites for those seeking board positions are a commitment to the betterment of riding in general, and to Dressage and Eventing in particular.

IDCTA board positions entail oversight of IDCTA activities as well as providing leadership for the club. Board positions require monthly meetings (many are conference calls, ap-proximately three hours a month), committee participation (time requirements vary based on the specifi c committee work chosen) and time spent discussing and developing new activities for the club. If you are interested in explor-ing the possibility of being a board member, call Molly Fine at 716-573-5390 or email her at mollymfi [email protected].

The major IDCTA committees are the Dressage and Event-ing Committees. The Dressage Committee oversees and executes the activities of the club as they relate to dres-sage. Patti Gruber is the Vice President of Dressage and is the person to speak to if you are interested in membership on the Dressage Committee. Her number is 847-561-8194 and her email is [email protected].

The Eventing Committee oversees and executes the activi-ties of the club as they relate to eventing. Julie Poveromo is the Vice President of Eventing and is the person to speak to if you are interested in membership on the Eventing Com-mittee. Her number is 309-310-2703 and her email is [email protected].

In addition to looking for general board members, IDCTA is seeking a candidate specifi cally for the position of Chair of the Membership Committee. This is an important position involving maintaining records of our membership both in IDCTA and USDF. The new Membership Chair must be able to manage our current software used for membership record keeping, as well as helping the club to increase member-ship. If you have an interest in this, please call Molly Fine at 716-573-5390 or email her at mollymfi [email protected].

This year’s awards banquet is on January 16, 2016. It would be great to have you all there! There will be a fantastic raffl e, wonderful prizes and excellent food provided by the Northbrook Hilton. The evening is a wonderful opportu-nity to beat the winter blues by enjoying good company, greeting old friends, and meeting new ones. banquet. The forms for various award submissions are included in this issue of the Scribe. Remember, in addition to submitting your scores on the appropriate form(s), you must also submit the volunteer form documenting fi ve hours of volunteer work in order to be eligible. Rules for all year end awards can be found on the Governance page on www.idcta.org, and the Awards forms can be found under both the Printable Forms and Awards page.

IDCTA has two clinics currently scheduled. A young rider clinic with Julie Julian will be held on November 15 at Fields and Fences Equestrian Center. This clinic will focus on en-couraging our younger riders and giving them insight into the young rider programs available. Details are included in this issue of the Scribe. Additionally, we are proud to announce a clinic featuring George Williams, President of

USDF and former Head Trainer at Tempel Farms, among his many accomplishments. The clinic will be held on March 12-13 at Tempel Farms. Detailed information for the clinic will be on the IDCTA website shortly, but in the meantime, save the date!

This year’s IDCTA Summer Dressage Show at Fields and Fences is history, and was great fun for all involved. The competition was top notch, the venue was beautiful, the prizes were great and the parties were fun for all who at-tended. Be sure to put next year’s show on your calendar. IDCTA will hold a level three show with a qualifi er for young riders, so we hope to see you there.

Enough for now… I wish you Happy Riding and great suc-cess in your endeavors!

To help promote junior and young rider dressage education, Julie A. Julian, has agree to teach a one-day junior/young rider clinic at Fields & Fences Equestrian Center, 36550 Hunt Club Road, Gurnee, IL. This clinic is open to junior and young riders, age 14-21, and auditors of all ages.

The clinic will take place on Sunday, November 15, 2015. Participation and auditing of the clinic is free for both riders and auditors, including lunch. However, there is a $35/day stabling fee, plus shavings ($9/bag or bring your own).

During lunch, Julie’s daughter, Rosie Julian-Simoes, will discuss her experiences in the junior/young rider program.

Julie will accept six riders. To be considered for participation in the junior/young rider clinic, please email your application to [email protected] by October 15, 2015. Your application must include: (1) your name, age and a paragraph about yourself; (2) your horse’s name and age and a paragraph about your horse; (3) your training history (i.e., who you have trained with, for how long, clinic’s attended); (4) your showing history (i.e., shows attended, levels shown, achievements); (5) your riding goals; and (6) a copy of your horse’s, negative coggins.

About Julie: Julie A. Julian is a USDF bronze, silver and gold medalist who has trained many horses to the FEI levels. Having trained multiple horses from green beginnings to the top Grand Prix level, Julie has had the opportunity to work with a variety of horses and trainers along the way. Starting out as a barrel racer as a child, Julie developed her passion for horses into a career. Julie has trained with many notable trainers, such as Dr. Reiner Klimke, Christilot Hanson-Boylen, Harry Boldt, Christine Traurig, and others.

Julie Julian Junior/Young Rider ClinicSunday, November 15, 2015 | Gurnee, IL

About Rosie:Rosie Julian-Simoes has been riding since a very young age, under the watchful eye of her mother and FEI trainer, Julie Julian. Now 19, Rosie has become an active member of the dressage community through volunteering and competing, along with raising money and support for the Region 2 Junior/Young Riders. She and her mother work out of Flying Dutchman farm in Barrington Hills, Illinois, where Rosie continues to learn how to train her horses to

the top levels.

Rosie is a USDF bronze and silver medalist and has won multiple regional championships, along with other placings and year-end awards through USDF and local organization, IDCTA. Rosie has competed at the North American Junior/Young Rider Championships a total of three times, as a junior and a young rider. At her last NAJYRC in 2014, she fi nished 7th individually and 5th in the freestyle.

Along with competing, Rosie loves participating in educational programs and clinics with her horses. She is a long-time participant in Lendon Grey’s Emerging Dressage Athlete Program and has ridden in two Robert Dover Horsemanship Clinics and two Courtney King-Dye Horsemanship Clinics. In addition, spring through the fall she enjoys riding in clinics with Olympian Christine Traurig, who she admires greatly. These opportunities have provided her with what she considers crucial knowledge for being successful as a devoted equestrian.

If you would like to audit the clinic, which is free, please call Cindy Lambert (847-394-2090) to register as an auditor.

2016 WAYNE EVENTING DERBYThe 2016 Wayne Eventing Derby and Derby Within a Derby, sponsored by MJHT, LLC and presented by IDCTA, will be held April 15 – 17 at Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne. This will be the seventh year for this popular competition that has become a traditional kick off for the Midwestern eventing season. It combines the “big time” feel of Lamplight with an informal, but well run and professionally judged event weekend.

The format for the 2016 Derby and Derby Within a Derby will basically remain the same as in previous years. All jumping phases will take place in Lamplight’s iconic Grand Prix arena with its world class footing capable of withstanding whatever surprises the Illinois spring climate might have up its sleeve.

The Derby Within a Derby is open to horses that have never competed in a competition recognized by USEF or USEA and features a dressage test and one jumping round at Starter Level dimensions all held on one day, Saturday. The regular Derby runs Preliminary, Train-ing, Novice, Beginner Novice and Starter levels. Each level features a dressage test and two jumping rounds that combine both cross country fences and show jumps. The dressage and one jumping round will run on Saturday, and the second jumping round will take place on Sunday.

In addition to ribbons and prizes for every class, the Derby will again be part of the Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program, (T.I.P.), which will sponsor high score and reserve high score awards for Training, Novice and Beginner Novice levels.

On Friday, April 15, there will be open jump schooling and familiarization in the Grand Prix arena, and a Ride a Test will be run, judged by a USEF judge who will give an evaluation after each test.

Additional information will be posted on www.wayneevent ingderby.org as the year progresses.
