Ahoy Sailors,Say goodbye summer, hello fall and the hope for better breezy weather. We had some fun in September. Margartaville was a lot of fun, thanks again to Pat and Wayne. The plan to sail from 1pm to 4pm was a complete no wind disaster, breezy till 1pm then dead till 4pm. Funny how that all worked out with the wind coming back up at 4 while we lined up at the buffet table.
Four Harpoons gathered for our first of three fall Rum Races. Winds were light while we managed to get in two races around the buoys. It is much easier to sail when the wind is blowing good, but the light and shifty winds require more skill and smarts. Thanks Ed for showing us how it's done, again!
October is a big month. Starting the 1st at Alfie's Restaurant for our Buccaneer night social. On the 3rd and 4th there is the Lake Eustis Sailing Club Wildcat Regatta. The monthly potluck/business meeting will be on the 15th, look for the particulars in the evite coming to your email soon. Then on the 24th our OSC sponsored Sunset Harbor Challenge/Around the Lake Regatta. This will be our biggest event this fall and I'm excited, know you are too. Lot of preparations to do, so heave-ho me lads and lassies and we'll make it a good one.

We held our monthly meeting after dinner at the Margartaville Party starting at 5:48 PM. Commodore Herb Moore called the meeting to order and thanked Wayne and Pat Birkenmeyer for hosting this wonderful traditional event in their home on the shore of Sunset Harbor.
There were about 24 people there including the following guests: Kari Sego; John and Joe Straub; Wendy Richards, Jim Talley and Heather Dsouza .
Birthdays were acknowledged: Paul Straub -Sept. 9th and Barbara Wescoat -Sept. 16th.
Herb asked the members if our Website and Newsletter were being received OK. No comments.
Treasurer’s Report was given by Art Twitchell for Jan Cole who was traveling in Ireland. The current Balance of our Account as of Sept. 19th was $3110.07. The report was approved,etc.
The Secretary’s Report by Art Twitchell as posted in the Newsletter was approved, etc.
The Floor was opened for Old Business: It was discussed and reiterated that Bob Cole was this year’s Racing Commodore.
The Floor was Opened to New Business: 1- Herb announced that he had sold his Harpoon and bought it back from Daniel Mendonca. 2- A reminder was made that the Fall Rum Races started on Sunday September 20th at 11:30 AM at Sim’s beach and that there is a $5 registration fee to be eligible to draw for the Rum prize. 3- The Sunset Harbor Challenge / Around the Lake Race was mentioned by Herb to be coming up on Saturday October 24, 2015. He asked Ed Sims to give a short highlight of the essence of the race. a- Herb handed out brochures of the event for the membership and for Ed to hand out at the Sanford Fall Race at Lake Monroe happening on the weekend of September 26th & 27th. b- There was discussion of advertising the Event to other central Florida sailing clubs. Ed Sims and Art Twitchell would follow through on sources that they knew of. c- Herb mentioned a list of details that needed to be addressed for the Event and it was determined that there would be an officer’s meeting between now and the next meeting to include a Racing Committee meeting to follow through on those details. 4- Our next Buccaneer’s Meeting is to be at Alfie’s on October 1st at 6:30 PM. There was a motion to adjourn the business meeting, a 2nd and all in favor (except for Ed Sims).
The OBRS meeting began and ended at 6:12 PM as the holder of the Gavel, Bob Cole, was vacationing in Ireland with Jan and there were no other points of discussion.

The first Fall Rum Race event of this season was Sunday September 20th at Sims’ Beach. The wind was light so we started as soon as there were signs of it showing promise. We had 4 Harpoons racing and got off to an early start, every one keeping track of their own times as we do in these informal races. We sailed around our usual course one lap coming in to finish. We thought perhaps to end it there, however, there was a tease of breeze so we headed out for once around the 1st marker and back for a second race. As we came back in we saw that Doug Ray had launched his Catalina Capri and was doing some practice sailing around Hope Ramp. He joined us on Sims’ Back Porch for after-race refreshments and promised to race with us next time. (The results for this event are below)

October 24th, 2015, Ocala Sailing Club will once again host this event wheresailing competitors will sail around Lake Weir on a charted course starting and finishing in Sunset Harbor. The Racing Committee will be meeting early in October to do the planning, but below is a list of duties that were issued lastyear. Please read over the list and identify where you may want to volunteerto help make this a success. Some names are suggested as a starting point but will be resolved as we move toward our October 15th Business Meeting.
Sanford Fall Regatta at Lake Monroe
Ed Sims and crew, Paul Straub, Herb Moore and Jim Edens on “Point Blank” sailed to Second Place in the recent 2015 Sanford Fall Regatta at Lake Monroein the Portsmouth -1 Division. The 2 races on Saturday determined the scores since there was no wind on Sunday to support a race. Ed’s net points tied the sailboat that came in first but the first race broke the tie awarding the First Place to Pivonka.
