“Travel the World with 4-H!”
October 2012
Join in the celebration:
Wear green and white,
Wear a badge,
Make a sign to display,
Tell others about 4-H.
To celebrate this
week, we are sponsoring a
“Show Our 4-H Pride” Con-
test. We would like each
club to create a display to
put outside in front of your
school. Some things the
judges will look for are: cre-
ativity, involvement of 4-
H’ers, if your display publi-
cizes 4-H and originality. We
want the community to see
them, so be creative. We
will award 1st and Honorable
Mention to the deserving
winners. Judges will drive
by schools Tuesday, Octo-
ber 9th. Email photos to
4-H’ers are reminded that
they are role models for others
and should demonstrate the six
pillars of character every day.
The six pillars of character are:
Trustworthiness, Respect, Re-
sponsibility, Fairness, Caring
and Citizenship.
During the month of Octo-
ber, we should work on helping
others develop RESPECT. Re-
spect involves following the Gold-
en Rule (Do unto others, as you
would have them to unto you),
being tolerant of differences, us-
ing good manners, and being con-
siderate of the feelings of others.
Let’s promote character in our homes, schools and
communities!

(These are attached to this newsletter.) There will be 6 animal categories you can show pets in: Dogs (large and small), Cats, Birds, Fish, Rabbits & any other pets. Judging will be different this year, too. Judges will choose which catego-ries to enter pets. Would you be able to answer these questions: 1. What kind of food do you feed your
pet? Why? How often? 2. How often should your pet be
bathed? 3. Is it important to take care of your
pets’ teeth? How? 4. Should your pet be vaccinated? 5. Is your pet on heartworm medica-
tion? Why or why not? 6. In case of a hurricane, do you have
an evacuation plan for your pet? Things judges may be looking for is if your pet is in healthy condition, is free

St. James Proud Anti-Litter Campaign Did you know that $40 million in tax payer dol-lars are spent yearly on litter throughout the state? Litter has become an issue throughout the parish in all neighborhoods. It cre-ates a negative perception of the community that we live in and an unsafe environment. Let’s do our part to keep St. James Parish clean! Each club is asked to form an Anti-litter Task Force that will organize educational opportunities and events in and around your school and community. Provide your Task Force Community list to the 4-H of-fice by October 19th. St. James will have a clean up/recycle day on Oc-tober 27th. Find out how your club can help!
