ACTION The story explores a five-year relationship

between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The show uses a form of storytelling in which

Cathy’s story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and Jamie’s is told in chronological

order (starting just after the couple have first met).

MEET THE CAST | THE LAST FIVE YEARSJOHN THOMAS CECIL (Jamie) is native of Chattanooga and is excited to be making his CTC debut. He graduated from Austin Peay State Uni-versity in 2007 with a B.S. in Communication (Theatre Performance) and a B.A. in Music (Vocal Performance). In 2010, he graduated from Chattanooga State’s Professional Actor Training Program. He is a Producing Partner with Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga. His favorite

roles include the title role in Gianni Schicchi, Whizzer in Falsettos (ETC), Macheath in Threepenny Opera, the title role in Jekyll/Hyde, Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden (CSCC), John the Baptist/Judas in Godspell, and Bob Cratchit/Dr. Stahlbaum in The Nutcracker Christmas Carol. He would like to take this opportunity to thank his family for their continued support and encouragement, and also dedicates his performance to his mom.

KYLE DAGNAN (Mover) is no stranger to the stage or to CTC. He basically grew up here! CTC credits include Corny Collins in Hairspray, George Gibbs in Our Town, and was in the ensemble in Beauty and the Beast and The Producers, just to name a few. Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga credits include Tateh in Ragtime, Albin/ZaZa in La Cage Aux Folles, Princeton in Avenue Q, and Dan in Next To Normal.

As a dancer he has had many wonderful opportunities from dancing with Chat-tanooga Ballet’s Company to choreographing for local theaters. He is very excited about this new take on an already great show, and is thankful for the opportunity to be a part of it.

JESSI FAIRCLOTH (Mover) has been a dancer her entire life. She is cur-rently a sophomore at Bennington College where she studies dance and psychology. She graduated from CCA in 2017 where she danced in Project Motion dance ensemble for three years. She has previously been a part of WEAVE: A Conceptual Dance Company and thrives on improvisation. Jessi has also performed Peter and the Wolf accompa-

nied by the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra.

JORDAN OTIS (Cathy) is delighted to be singing the role of Catherine in The Last Five Years. Recent performance credits include Beauty and the Beast (Belle), Hansel and Gretel (Hansel), Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina), The Merry Widow (Hannah), Into the Woods (Rapunzel, Little Red), Footloose (Urleen), and soloing with the Redlands Com-munity Orchestra and East Tennessee Symphony Orchestra. Jordan

holds an M.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands and a B.M. in Music Education from Southern Adventist University. Not only a performer, Jordan is a private voice teacher, fitness instructor, and mom to her son, Jack. Love and thanks to CTC for the opportunity to be involved in this beautiful show and to her husband, Bryan, and family for his unwavering support of her musical endeavors.

JASON ROBERT BROWN (Playwright and Composer) is a Tony Award–winning composer, lyricist, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, director, and performer. His major musicals include Honeymoon in Vegas (Drama Desk Award nominations for “Outstanding Lyrics” and “Out-standing Music”), The Bridges of Madison County (Tony Award for “Best Score”), 13 (Drama Desk Award nomination for “Outstanding Lyrics”), The Last Five Years (Drama Desk Awards for “Outstanding Music” and “Outstanding Lyrics”), Parade (Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Musical,” Tony Awards for “Best Book of a Musical” and “Best Original Score”), and Songs for a New World. His orchestral adaptation of E. B. White’s novel The Trumpet of the Swan premiered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with the National Symphony Orchestra. Brown was on the faculty of the University of Southern California School of Dramatic Arts for nine years and was the Blodgett Artist-in-Residence at Harvard University in 2014. Brown is a member of the Dramatists Guild and the American Federation of Musicians Local 802 and 47.

VENA CHAMPION (Costume Designer/CTC Costume Shop Manager) started at the CTC as a volunteer in 2013, then later joined the staff as the Wardrobe Supervisor, and later moved into Special Events and Group Sales. Vena’s love of the performing arts has been consistent throughout her life. She was awarded a B.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of Alabama in 1996. She owned and operated the Cumberland Dance Academy in Cookev-

ille for 11 years before coming to Chattanooga. During the first years of residing in Chattanooga, Vena enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom with her two boys, Drew and Alex. Drew’s introduc-tion to theater at the CTC in 2013 is what brought her back to the arts. Vena is truly grateful to be able to work with such a talented and dedicated staff throughout the CTC and thankful for her husband, Greg, who has always supported her crazy life in the arts.

CONSTANCE HESTER (Stage Manager) is a stage manager/director originally from Cincinnati, OH. Her experience is wide-ranging, including fringe festivals, educational theatre, large-scale plays/musicals, and children’s theatre. She re-cently moved from NYC, where some of her favorite credits include Girls and Boys, The Path to Pride, Jagged Little Pill, and Natural Shocks. Regional credits include Death: Discovering Your Role (Madlab Theatre), Beauty and the Beast (Hilliard-Bradley Theatre), Heathers: The Musical (Ohio State Department of

Theatre), The Seussification of Romeo & Juliet (Hilliard-Bradley Theatre), YOLO Shakespeare: Macbeth (OSU Lab Series), Love Letters (OSU Lab Series), The Art of You, The Last Five Years (Hester-Harper Productions), Book of Merman (Evolution Theatre Inc.), Snoopy!!! (Columbus Children’s Theatre), Good Kids (Ohio State Department of Theatre), and The Individuality of Streetlamps (OSU Lab Series). She is overjoyed to be making her CTC debut with The Last Five Years. She would like to thank Garry for this opportunity, the cast and creative team for welcoming her so openly, and her family for dealing with her crazy schedule.

TIM HINCK (Musical Director) is a concert pianist, composer, and a former Fulbright Scholar to the Netherlands. His musical compositions and multi-media performances have been presented regionally across the Southeast and abroad in Spain and the Netherlands. Hinck is a musical coach at UTC, a teacher at St Peter’s School and the McCallie School, and frequent music director at CTC, with recent credits including Les Miserables, Into the Woods,

Sister Act, 33 Variations, Camelot, Spamelot, and Fiddler on the Roof.

ALEX MILLER-LONG (Lighting Design) is a freelance designer, assistant, and technician based out of Chattanooga. She recently graduated with her M.F.A. in Lighting Design from the University of California at San Diego and graduated summa cum laude from UTC in 2013 with her B.A. in Theatre. In recent years Alex has worked in both design and production for various companies, including The Public Theater (NYC), The White Heron Theatre Company (Nantucket, MA), Chautauqua Theatre Company (Chautauqua, NY), La Jolla Playhouse (San Diego), Williamstown Theatre Festival (William-stown, MA), and the La Jolla Symphony (San Diego). Her work can be seen at alexmillerlong.com.

GARY MAY (Sound Designer) became involved in the audio department at CTC during the 2016 production of Miracle on 34th Street and has subsequently assist-ed nearly all productions and events at the theatre since. Outside of CTC shows, he remains busy doing freelance work with local sound engineers/theaters around Chattanooga and Northern Georgia.

SARAH MIECIELICA (Scenic Design) received an M.F.A. in Scene Design from the University of Arkansas. She has worked professionally as a designer and props artisan at many theatres across the country, including The Alley Theatre in Houston, Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre in Missouri, Northern Stage in White River Junction, VT, and McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ. Sarah and her husband moved to Chattanooga four years ago, and she quickly became involved with the Theatre Centre. Some designs she is most proud of include Les Miserables, Into the Woods, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Of

Mice and Men, and Dividing the Estate.

THE POP-UP PROJECT (Choreographers) is a non-profit performance art company founded in 2017 by Mattie Waters and Jules Downum. The Pop-up Project’s vision is to create a vibrant, diverse, and sustainable performing arts culture in Chattanooga. They provide access to the performing arts and opportunity for our city’s artists by creating site-based, collaborative performances featuring original dance, music, costuming, etc., and by paying artists a fair wage for their work. The Pop-up Project has been in residency at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre since March 2018 and is thrilled to have had the opportunity to choreograph for The Last Five Years.

GARRY LEE POSEY (Director) is excited to be returning to CTC, specifically the Circle Theatre where it all started for him with a class taught by his mentor and now friend Rodney Van Valkenburg 25 years ago. Since then, Garry has received both his Bachelor’s (Catawba College) and his Masters in Fine Arts (University of Mississippi) degrees in Theatre, worked professionally in NY, VA, DC, OK, FL, NC, GA, MS, MA, and AL. Locally, he has was the Youth Theatre Director at CTC from 2000 to 2003, has taught in the Professional Actor Training Program and Theatre Departments at Chat-tanooga State (2006-2017), produced Chattanooga State’s Summer Theatre Festival

(2007-2010), and founded and has been serving as the Executive Artistic Director for the Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga (2007-current). “Thank you Todd for the opportunity and thank you CTC for continuing to expose our community to the beauty that is the art of theatre.”

EVAN BRACKETT (Master Carpenter) has an A.A.S. in Construction Management as well as ten years of experience in technical theatre, working as a carpenter, grip, rigger, scenic painter, electrician, sound engineer, and designer. He is from Rome, Georgia, where he worked as the Technical Director for the Rome Shake-speare Festival and the Facilities Manager for the Historic Desoto Theatre where he built and designed numerous productions. He is excited to be a part of the CTC family and put his hands to work on the shows this season.

MEET THE THEATRE CENTRE STAFF

KATIE CAMPASSI (Education Assistant) has her B.A. in Theatre (cum laude) from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. She has performed professionally throughout the southeast in theatre and film. Katie has also taught a wide variety of ages, from preschool to adult, for the past eight years. She is also a makeup artist, singer, guitar player, and fitness enthusiast.

NICOLE COLEMAN (Box Office Assistant) has enjoyed the local arts scene since her first acting class at CTC and painting workshop at the Hunter Mu-seum. As her world became a stage, she entertained audiences in CTC Youth Theatre productions and at the Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts (CCA). Nicole serves as a panelist for the ArtsBuild Community Cultural Connections Grant, and performs on stage any chance she can get!

R. SCOTT DUNLAP (CTC Youth Theatre Director) is an alumnus of CTC’s Youth Theatre program, graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1996, and was a member of their 1997 Acting Company. This season will mark his 21st season with CTC. He was Youth Theatre Designer from 1997 until 2000. From 2007 to 2012, he wrote and directed several shows for Baylor Middle School, including The Snow Queen, The Jungle Book, and The Canterville Ghost. He has been onstage in numer-ous CTC productions, including Miss Hannigan in Annie, Roger DeBris in

The Producers, and the Baker in Into the Woods. In 2008, he received the “Best Actor” award for Estrogon in Waiting for Godot at the Tennessee Theatre Association Community Theatre Competition. He would later return to receive the 2012 “Best Director” and “Best Production” awards for The 39 Steps. His long history of directing CTC shows often includes designing his own productions. Some of his favorites include Almost Maine, The Best Man, Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson, Camelot, Dark of the Moon, Dividing the Estate, Hair, Love/Sick, Mr. & Mrs. M, Peter and the Starcatcher, Pig Farm, Ring Round the Moon, The Importance of Being Ear-nest, Xanadu, and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in 2005 and 2009.

LISA GLISSON (Development Associate) is responsible for implementing our fundraising strategies. During her career, she has been a corporate trainer for high-tech companies such as EDS and Compaq, taught at Lone Star College and Cleveland State Community College, and published an award-winning memoir under her nom de plume. In recent years, she has written numerous grant proposals and case statements for nonprofits. Since she loves live theatre – and used to write plays for her third-grade classmates to perform – Lisa feels that she has found her niche with CTC’s

zany yet brilliant crew. A Texas native, she and her family spent 17 years in North Carolina before moving to Tennessee, where she has embraced the Volunteers and, at long last, country music. Lisa also roots for Texas A&M, where she earned degrees in journalism and English. She and her husband are the parents of two young adult sons, a teenage daughter, and a crazy dog.

CASSANDRA GROSS (Business Manager) has lived in Chattanooga for the last 20 years. Not coincidentally, she has been a 20-year volunteer or employee of the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, performing in the Youth The-atre and Mainstage musicals, assisting in the box office, teaching Summer Academy, and chauffeuring TheatreQuest youth for their annual Atlanta theatre weekend. She holds a bachelor’s degree from UTC in Accounting

(Go Mocs!), and now enjoys keeping a watchful eye over the financial life of her beloved arts organi-zation. Cassandra even met her husband, Lee, at CTC and together they are raising three wild, loud, lovely children: Savvy, Siddalee, and Moses. In Cassandra’s spare time she cooks, makes her husband laugh, and gardens…and knows the earth can heal you. Cassandra firmly believes in the mission of the Chattanooga Theatre Centre and believes that sharing our stories, in person, in our own voices, is one of the most powerful and loving things that we can do as a community.

N. ERIC KNAUSS (Technical Director) has spent most of the last 25 years working full-time in theatre in the D.C. area. He started at The Studio Theatre in 1992, moved to the Round House Theatre in 1999, then to the Olney Theatre in 2009. After leaving the Olney in 2012 he spent three years working in the theatre department at George Washington University. Eric just recently moved to Chattanooga to be closer to family and is happy to be able to continue working in theatre while here.

TARA McDOUGAL (Properties Master and Scenic Painter) is an alumnus of CTC’s Youth Theatre from back when it was the Little Theatre. She has always loved the creativity and family in the theatre community. Tara attended the University of Evansville, in Evansville, IN, and received her B.F.A. in Theatre Design and Technology. After she spent most of her career working in props or as a scenic artist, in various professional and regional theatres. Favorite props include a magic trunk (for The Fantasticks), The Bean Stalk for Into the

Woods, and many different props for You Can’t Take it With You. She enjoys the challenge and creativity that come with props and painting. Tara is married and has a daughter whom she hopes learns to love the theatre as much as Mom does. Tara also enjoys hiking, painting, and spending time with family. She is excited to return to her roots and cannot wait to see where CTC goes next!

RICARDO C. MORRIS (Group Sales & Events Manager) is a native of Chatta-nooga and attended Calvin Donaldson Elementary school and Alton Park Ju-nior High School. He is a 1980 graduate of Howard High School. Ric continued his Tiger tradition by attending Tennessee State University where he received his B.S. degree in Speech Communication and Theater. After graduation Ricar-do taught theater, English and dance for eight years at Hixson High. In 1994 Ric left teaching to attend Yale University where he earned an M.F.A. in Arts Administration. While attending Yale, Ric founded the Dwight/Edgewood Proj-

ect which worked with disadvantaged youth through play writing. This program earned him the hon-or of being the first School of Drama student to become a Yale Presidential Fellow. Ric is currently the owner and CEO of Renaissance Consulting and Management (renaissanceconsultingmanagement.com). He was Executive Director of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in Birmingham where he founded the Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival. He also led the Harris Arts Center in Calhoun, GA, where he created The International String Band Festival. He later founded the Green Street Arts Center in Mid-dletown, Connecticut. For three years Ric created and produced Chattanooga’s CultureFest and The Glenwood Jazz Festival. Ric considers himself a dancer/actor/director and has appeared in several productions at CTC, including The Wiz, Hello Dolly, A Chorus Line, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. He has directed A Streetcar Named Desire, Blues for an Alabama Sky, August Wilson’s Fences and others. His hobbies include cooking, gardening and home improvement.

KITTY MURAKAMI (Box Office Assistant) is a relative newcomer to Chatta-nooga, having moved here from Ocala, Florida, in 2015. She was raised in upstate New York, graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, and has lived in great places like Denver and Maui. Her first and only experience with theatre (other than high school plays) started as a cos-tume shop volunteer at Ocala Civic Theatre for two years. After retiring as a pharmacist and moving to Chattanooga, she continued volunteering at CTC in the costume shop. After finally being offered a part-time Box Office Assis-

tant position in 2016, she was thrilled to become a part of the CTC family. “It has been an honor and a privilege as well as a wonderful learning experience to be involved with this organization. CTC is blessed to have such an amazing facility, talented dedicated staff and volunteers, and such supportive patrons.”

TODD OLSON (Executive Director) has just finished his first year at CTC. Recently he spent 11 years as Producing Artistic Director at American Stage Theatre Company in St. Petersburg, FL. He was the 2013 recipient of the Florida Professional Theatre Association’s Richard G. Fallon Award for “Excellence in Professional Theatre.” Todd has directed over 150 plays, musicals, and operas, including My Way (which he co-created) at the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, and I Left My Heart (also co-created) at Milwaukee Repertory Theatre. For American Stage, Todd directed over 30 critically-

acclaimed plays, including A Moon for the Misbegotten, Anna in the Tropics, The Seafarer, Suddenly Last Summer, Three Days of Rain, The Exonerated (with Sandy Duncan and Antonio Tarver), Dennis Lehane’s Coronado, Dinner with Friends, This Wonderful Life, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, August: Osage County, and Around the World in 80 Days. Original works include new adaptations of Lysistrata and Dracula. Original works include Hurricane Class, Section 60, Casa Blue, the last moments in the life of Frida Kahlo, and Joe Corso Re-Enters from the Wings, which won the 2012 Holland New Voices Playwright Award at the Great Plains Theatre Conference. Todd received his M.F.A. from the University of North Carolina and is a graduate of the Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard, where he took classes with David Mamet, Peter Sellars, Andrei Serban, Robert Scanlan, Robert Woodruff, Anna Deveare Smith, and Robert Brustein, among others. Todd was a teaching fellow at Harvard and has taught classes at Vanderbilt, Boston University, the University of North Carolina, and the University of South Florida. Todd and his wife, Charlotte, are the proud parents of Jonas, Corinna, and May.

WAYNE SCHOCK (Patron Services Director) is celebrating his 19th season with CTC. He returned to Chattanooga after graduating college, saw some plays with friends, then became a subscriber. “I loved the shows and the evenings out with dinner and brought family and friends for a number of years.” Wayne would become the Box Office Manager; there have been only four in the 95-year history of the Little Theatre/Chattanooga Theatre Centre! “I feel honored to be a part of this great community organization with

such rich history. I am proud of the productions we bring Chattanooga on a yearly basis with local talent. I love getting to know the patrons show after show. I hope to be a part of this great institution for many years to come.”

CHUCK TUTTLE (Director of Education and Outreach) holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Children’s Theatre and Creative Drama from the University of Texas at Austin and has over 30 years of experience doing theatre with and for young people. His professional background includes serving as Director of Education at Austin Theatre for Youth and Children’s Theatre Workshop in Pleasanton, California. Chuck has taught theatre classes to all ages in acting, playwriting, technical theatre, Shakespeare, voice, move-

ment, improvisation, and comedy, among others. As an actor, he has taken on such roles as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Joaquin in El Californio, Simon in The Caucasian Chalk Circle, and Billy Crocker in Anything Goes (which he performed in Hokkaido, Japan). Di-recting credits include Waiting for Godot, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, The Nightingale, The Crucible, Once on This Island, and Go, Dog, Go! Chuck has written several stage adapta-tions, most recently Plant, Grow, Pick, for CTC’s Theatre for the Very Young program. For the past three summers, he has collaborated with composer Michael Huseman to create short musicals for CTC’s Summer Musical Performance Training Academy. As sponsor and advisor of CTC’s teen interest group, TheatreQuest, he contributes to and directs The Alphabet Plays, an ongoing series of plays for young children.

JULIE VAN VALKENBURG (Marketing Director) is enjoying her second year as a member of the Theatre Centre staff, transitioning her 25 years of volunteer experience at the CTC into her dream job at her home away from home. She brings 30 years of experience in marketing, public relations, media relations, graphic design, and dig-ital marketing to the role. As a volunteer, she has worked onstage and backstage, including lending a hand as a stage manager (most recently Les Miserables and Harvey) and, over the years, as a box

office, costume shop, scene shop and special events volunteer. A six-time Miss Annie Award winner, Julie appeared most recently in A Room with a View. After making her CTC debut in A Streetcar Named Desire, she went on to other favorite roles in Six Degrees of Separation, Rumors, God of Carnage, Spinning into Butter, Enchanted April, Dearly Departed, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Julie has appeared on other stages in August: Osage County, The Laramie Project, and Hamlet. She shares her love of theatre with her husband, Rodney, and son, Jake, both of whom have appeared on the CTC stage.
