From the Pastor’s Desk 2 In two weeks Bishop Johnston will confirm twenty-one youth; nine from here, eleven from St. Columba in Conception Jct., and one from St. Paul in Tarkio. The Mass will be at 2 PM on October 25th. Unfortunately, we will not have room for anyone except the candidates and their families, so please do NOT plan on attending. The church will be full with families who sit together, making it impossible to have physical distancing for any others. Even those members of the families of the Confirmandi who need to be distanced from their own families will not be accommodated, and so are discouraged from coming. The diocesan rules for celebrations will be followed rather strictly in order to protect those attending, especially the Bishop. Families will sit together, but they will be separated from other families, and by the time we get all the relations and sponsors into the church there will be no room for individual distancing. Masks will be required when singing (we need to do better) or moving about, and Bishop Johnston will not be coming early to talk to the candidates or staying afterwards for pictures as he usually does. These are consequences of living with the Coronavirus. Please pray that this ceremony goes well and that the people who are confirmed will be moved by the Holy Spirit on this weekend and in the future of their lives. The position of Stewardship Coordinator has been filled by Chris Kuhlemeyer. We are delighted to have her on the staff. She comes just in time to help out with the ACA (Annual Catholic Appeal), which begins this weekend. Nothing like hitting the ground running! Please welcome and encourage her as she takes on an array of duties.

As for the ACA, the theme is “One Family…Walking Together in Faith.” We have done well with this appeal in the past, often reaching our goal before Christmas. The diocese has given us a goal this year of $33,000 for the whole parish. I hope that we can set aside some money for the campaign this year as well. I made my contribution this past week, as I like to take care of it early.

The Coronavirus seems to be making a resurgence, this time a little more virulent, in our area. Please take care to follow the safety protocols of social distancing, masks, and hand washing – they seem to be working. The cases in our parish so far are not traceable to our gatherings. Remember also that it is our goal that any member of our parish can get to Mass sometime during the week, not just on Sundays. The Bishop continues his dispensation from the obligation to Sunday Mass, though I don’t know for how much longer. Let us cautiously remain faithful followers of Our Lord in these days and in this community, which is so special.

Father Albert, O.S.B.

Stewardship-A Way of Life 3

“My God will supply whatever you need…” - Philippians 4:19

God really does provide for those who are grateful and generous. This is very difficult for people that don’t live a stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skeptical and say it’s just coincidence. If you are skeptical, try living a stewardship lifestyle for just one month – be generous with your gifts of time in prayer, talent in charitable works and treasure and see how God provides for your needs. Archdiocese of St. Louis

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL (ACA) kickoff is Oct 10th and 11th. The ACA provides the funds for the pastoral, educational and charitable minis-tries of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. This year’s 2021 ACA theme, “One Family…Walking Together in Faith,” calls us to come together as a people of God to live and share the faith we profess as we carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ. When you receive your Annual Catholic Appeal Invitation mailing from Bishop Johnston next week, please prayerfully consider how you can help and give to the 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal, “One Family…Walking Together in Faith.”

Welcome Chris Kuhlemeyer to the St. Gregory’s Staff! Chris is replacing Michele Starke in the Stewardship Coordinator position. She will be part time in the office, and you can always reach her at her email: [email protected]. Chris is married to Scott Kuhlemeyer, and they have two boys—Wilson and August. Please welcome Chris to our parish staff!

Thank you to all who were able to join the National Life Chain event last Sunday! Several parishioners were able to attend and pray for life with many others from our community. The line stretched from First to Fourth Street. Pray for an end to abortion and respect for life from conception to natural death.
