IMMC8

The IMMC8 (International Medicinal Mushroom Conference) www.immc8.com was celebrated in Manizales, Colombia from August 24 to 27, 2015. The theme of the conference was "Medicinal Mushrooms: Entrepreneurial Opportunities for Young People and Healthcare Trends in the 21st Century". The Abstracts Book contains 155 contributions from both academia and industry of 33 countries presented at the conference as plenary lectures, invited talks, symposia sessions and poster exhibitions. The abstracts covered science and biotechnology of medicinal mushrooms, medicinal value and pharmacology of mushrooms active compounds, clinical trials involving medicinal mushrooms, new developments in medicinal mushroom products, cultivation and fermentation technologies, systematics, taxonomy, and distribution.

The IMMCs is held every two years, being this meeting the 14th year of the initial conference. La IMMC8 (Conferencia Internacional de Hongos Medicinales) www.immc8.com se celebró en Manizales, Colombia del 24 al 27 de agosto de 2015. El tema de la conferencia fue "Hongos medicinales: Oportunidades empresariales para gente joven y tendencias en el cuidado de la salud en el Siglo 21". El Libro de Resúmenes contiene 155 contribuciones de academia e industria de 33 países que fueron presentadas en la conferencia como conferencias plenarias e invitados, sesiones de simposios y exhibiciones de afiches. Los resúmenes cubren ciencia y biotecnología de hongos medicinales, valor medicinal y farmacología de compuestos de hongos medicinales, pruebas clínicas con hongos medicinales, nuevos desarrollos de productos de hongos medicinales, tecnologías para cultivo y fermentación, sistemática, taxonomía y distribución.

Las IMMCs se llevan a cabo cada dos años, siendo esta reunión el décimo cuarto año de la conferencia inicial. Las conferencias han sido celebradas así:

Dr. Gastón Guzmán from Instituto de Ecología in Xalapa, Veracruz in Mexico with his wife Isabel and Mother Ivonne. His conference was “New Studies on the Hallucinogenic Mushrooms, History, Diversity and Applications in Psychiatry”.

Dr. Gastón Guzmán del Instituto de Ecología en Xalapa, Veracruz en México con su esposa Isabel y Madre Ivonne. Su conferencia fue “Nuevos estudios de los hongos alucinógenos, historia, diversidad y aplicaciones en Psiquiatría”.

Mother Ivonne presented a paper entitled “Medicinal Mushrooms in Guatemala”. The talk reflected the work that has been done in the past 20 years with the use of medicinal mushrooms. Her renowned Professor Dr. Gastón Guzmán from México celebrated the presentation of this data.

Dr. Walter Ardigó, Physician and Surgeon and Mycotherapist from Milán, Italy presented two books describing his clinical experiences with the use of medicinal mushrooms. They will be translated into Spanish and English.
