    A Message From Pastor David

    I was noticing lately that October has some important events that have changed our history. Consider

    an abbreviated list:

    1st

    in 1908 - Henry Ford introduced the Model T;

    2nd

    in 1950 - First Peanuts cartoon drawn by Charles Schulz appeared;

    3rd

    in 1863 - Thanksgiving was named an official holiday by President Abraham Lincoln;

    7th

    in 1950 - US forces invaded North Korea;

    8th

    in 1871 - Chicago fire occurred; and in 1897 - Dow Jones was created;

    12th in 1792 - George Washington laid the foundation stone for the White House;

    18th

    in 1898 - The United States took possession of Puerto Rico from Spain;

    19th

    in 1781 - British surrendered ending the Revolutionary War;

    26th

    in 1881 - Gunfight at the OK Corral occurred;

    29th

    in 1929 - Black Tuesday, on this date the New York Stock Exchange crashed beginning the

    Great Depression;

    31st

    in 1864 - Nevada became the 36th state admitted to the Union.

    What I realize that while we often think of October as being the month we begin to really focus on fall,

    or possibly it is the month we recognize as hosting Halloween it really encompasses several signifi-

    cant events in American history.

    I have a challenge for us this October. What I know is this; that while October was the birth month for

    the stock market (likewise it was the month of great defeat that led to the Great Depression), there isno birth as significant as the birth of an individual who gives his or her heart to the Lord. None of these

    events listed above even caught heavens attention but the new birth of a neighbor, a school mate, a

    work associate, or a family member will. Lets make this month a significant month in the lives of a few

    or a bunch of people in our area. Lets begin to pray that God will use us this month to reach those

    around us.

    One of the ways we have at NorthRidge Church in connecting with our community is through our An-

    nual Fall Festival. I think this is our 8th

    year. Each year over 1,000 people visit this campus to have

    some fun, gather a few treats, and maybe simply to find a way for their children to not have to trick or

    treat. I am praying that this year be the greatest year yet. Specifically I am praying that this year will

    be the year when many will come to faith in Christ.

    Would you commit to pray with me? Will you commit to be here and help in a booth or maybe simplyto meet and greet our visitors? Will you consider inviting a neighbor or two? Maybe this year will be

    the year that you will say, It is my time to lead someone to Christ. Here am I Lord, use me.

    Until He Comes Again.

    Each Month I will have a teacher of the month to share with you. I will share information about the

    teacher so you can get to know each of us better.

    Teacher of the Month

    Patty Brewer - One year old TeacherPatty has been married to her husband for 25 years and they have three children. Grace is the oldest,

    at 17 years old and attends PSC this year. Their two younger children attend NorthRidge, Nathan is 12

    years old and in the 7th grade, Bethany is 10 years old and in the 5th

    grade.

    Patty has been in Early Childhood for 5 years. She believes God has called her to NorthRidge to teach in

    our one year old class. The thing she loves best about teaching

    young children is their ability to love. Her favorite time of day

    with the children is music and movement time.

    Patty has recently gone back to college and is a very busy

    woman with work, family and school. However, she still always

    finds time to put the Lord first. Patty and her family attend

    church here at NorthRidge. When Patty can find a minute toherself to recharge she likes to read, garden and watch mov-

    ies. Her favorite bible verse is Romans 10:9-10 and her favorite

    song is I can Only Imagine.

    NorthRidge Christian Preschool NewsWe are off to a great start this year. Thank you for all the prayers and the help you give us. We appreci-

    ated all the help in moving furniture so we could have the floors done. I also want to thank all who

    helped put new mulch on the playground. A great big thank you goes out to all the Sunday Preschool

    workers and AWANA aides for working so well with us. It can be hard to share space sometimes, but

    you all do a great job and we thank you. These things mean so much to us; the church shows so much

    support for our ministry. It is so wonderful to work in a place that the people are led by the Lord. Your

    prayers are felt daily and we thank you for all the support you give us.

    -In Christ,Holly Buchanan
