Pigmy Deposits by Mr. Nagesh

The earliest micro finance innovation is Pigmy Deposit

Scheme, introduced by Syndicate Bank way back in

1928. The objective of this scheme was to help low in-

come group traders and daily wage employees to incul-

cate saving habits. The saved amount would assist them

for bigger capital requirements such as weddings, pur-

chase of farm land, higher studies etc. The Pigmy

Agents used to collect a small amount at the doorstep of

the depositors and deposit in their accounts.

This micro finance became popular and emulated by

many co-operative banks. Improving further, the saved

amount carried interest shaping similar to Recurring De-

posit, loans issued back to the depositor on the amount

saved etc.

In the modern world, the Agents now collect pigmy de-

posits and key it in Hand Held Devices, immediate re-

ceipt with their balances is handed over to the Depositor.

These collections are later keyed in Computer Systems

or Synchronized with the Computer Software.

Ziac Software has developed software named ZBank

exclusively for the co-operative banks to manage Pigmy

Deposits and Savings Bank Accounts. The software is

designed to collect customer info with different types of

accounts maintained in bank like Savings account, De-

posits account, Loans account, Pigmy accounts, Shares

and Dividend accounts.

ZBank software incorporates pigmy collections from the

Agent, Commission Calculation and transferring to their

accounts. The software calculates yearly Interest and

generates the reports like accounts statement, pigmy

collection reports etc. Different Accounts types with

varying interest rates respective to their specified dura-

tion are taken into account.
