ORDER OF SERVICE

♫C: OPENING HYMN CW #528 Christ Is Our Cornerstone1. Christ is our cornerstone; On him alone we build.

With his true saints alone The courts of heav’n are filled. On his great love Our hopes we place Of present grace And joys above.

2. Oh, then, with hymns of praise These hallowed courts shall ring! Our voices we will raise The Three in One to singAnd thus proclaim In joyful song, Both loud and long, That glorious name.

4. Here may we gain from heav’n The grace which we implore,And may that grace, once giv’n, Be with us evermoreUntil that day When all the blest To endless rest Are called away!

CONFESSION OF SINS:P: Lord, you have set before us a path for our life in your Son, we confess our shame and

slowness to learn of him.

C: Forgive our poverty of worship, our neglect of the means of Grace, our hesitation towitness, our evasion of responsibility and our imperfect stewardship of your gifts.

P: Forgive us that so little of your love reaches others through us and that we have beenthoughtless in our judgments, hasty in condemnation, grudging in forgiveness, slow to seekpeace and unwilling to help our neighbors.

C: Have mercy on us, O Lord.

2

Page 3: Oct 17, 2021 It’s Good Lord to be here!

P: Having heard your confession, I, as a minister of God’s Word, assure you that your graciousFather in Heaven has heard your prayer. By the command of our Lord Jesus Christ I forgiveyou all your sins in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

C: (Tune #411) Praise the Lord, for he is gracious; Never shall his promise fail.God has made his saints victorious; Sin and death shall not prevail.Praise the God of our salvation; Hosts on high, his power proclaim;Heav’n and earth, and all creation, Laud and magnify his name.

DIALOG FOR OUR ANNIVERSARY/THANKSGIVING:

P: I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD."

C: One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORDall the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

P: Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place?

C: He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swearby what is false.

P: The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any whounderstand, any who seek God. All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt;there is no one who does good, not even one.

C: Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your greatcompassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me frommy sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

P: Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the manwhose sin the LORD does not count against him.

C: I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths; O LORD my God, I called toyou for help and you healed me.

P: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

C: The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

P: Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime.

C: Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his saints.

SCRIPTURE LESSON: Psalm 127I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!” 2 Our feet have beenstanding within your gates, O Jerusalem! ... 7 Peace be within your walls and security withinyour towers!” 8 For my brothers and companions' sake I will say, “Peace be within you!” 9 Forthe sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.

♫C: HYMN CW #567 “Awake, O Spirit, Who Inspired”

P: In our worship today we acknowledge that Jesus Christ has given to us a ministry. (John20:21-23) Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the father has sent me, I am sending you. Andwith that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit”

C: ♫(Sing) Awake, O Spirit, who inspired The watchmen of the Church's youth,Who faced the foe's envenomed ire, Who witnessed day and night your truth,Whose voices loud are ringing still And bringing hosts to know your will.

P: The tool we need for ministry is God’s Word: (2 Tim 4:2) “Preach the Word; be prepared inseason and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and carefulinstruction.”

C: ♫ (Sing) Oh, haste to help or we are lost! Send preachers forth in spirit strong,Armed with your Word, a dauntless host, Bold to attack the rule of wrong.Let them the earth for you reclaim, Your heritage, to know your name.

P: The Ministry will extend a kingdom of God throughout the world (Matt 28:19) “Go andmake disciples of all nations!”

C: ♫ (Stand and Sing)And let your Word have speedy course, Through ev'ry land be glorified,Till all the heathen know its force And fill your churches far and wide.Oh, spread the conquest of your Word And let your kingdom come, dear Lord!

SCRIPTURE LESSON: Matthew 10:16-23 Pilgrim: Be on Guard in Your MinistryI am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and asinnocent as doves. "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councilsand flog you in their synagogues. On my account you will be brought before governors and kingsas witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what tosay or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, butthe Spirit of your Father speaking through you. "Brother will betray brother to death, and afather his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. All men willhate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. When you arepersecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through thecities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

APOSTLES’ CREED: ♫ Tune: AUSTRIA (CW 277)I believe in God the Father, Maker of the heav'n and earth. And in Jesus Christ, our Savior, God's own Son of human birth.Virgin‑born, the Lord incarnate, Whom the Spirit did conceive;Suffered under Pontius Pilate; He's the God whom I believe!

Crucified, was dead and buried; Down to hell in victory; From the dead he rose the third day; Up to heav'n triumphantly. There at God's right hand he's ruling, By his will the world is led.He will come to judge the nations, Both the living and the dead.

I believe in God the Spirit, In his Church, his chosen band. They are joined in sweet communion, Holy in his sight they stand.I believe in sins forgiven; I believe I'll rise again;I believe in life eternal. Amen! Amen! Amen!

SERMON TEXT: Isaiah 43:1-5 Pilgrim: God will be with youBut now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Donot fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When youpass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will notsweep over you. when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not setyou ablaze. 3 For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt foryour ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead. 4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.5Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you fromthe west.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH

LORD'S PRAYER:P: I invite you to lift up your hearts to God and pray with me the Lord's Prayer as Christ our

Lord taught us.C: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name...

P: Here we pray that God our Father in heaven would look with mercy on all his children onearth. We ask him to give us grace that we might proclaim his Word faithfully and live ourlives according to his will, for then we show that his name is precious to us. We also praythat he would keep us from any teaching and living which would dishonor his name.

C: Your kingdom come...P: We pray that his kingdom and the rule of his grace might come to us and grow in us each

day; that all who are still captives in Satan's kingdom might be brought to know JesusChrist, his Son, so that the Christian Church might grow and prosper.

C: Your will be done on earth as in heaven...P: We pray that the Holy Spirit would strengthen us to do and accept God's will in life and

death, in good times and in bad, and that we might have power to put down our own sinfulwill and its desires.

C: Give us today our daily bread...P: We pray that our Father would also give us our daily bread, preserve us from greed and

selfish desires, and help us to trust that he will provide for all our needs.C: Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us...P: We ask that God would forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us so that our

hearts may rest and rejoice in a good conscience before him, and that no sin may everfrighten or alarm us.

C: Lead us not into temptation...P: We pray here that God would protect us from all temptations and help us by His Spirit to

put down our sinful flesh, to despise the world and its vices, and to overcome the devil andall his trickery.

C: But deliver us from evil...P: And finally we pray that God would deliver us from all evils of body and soul now and

forever.C: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.P: All those who sincerely desire these things will say from their hearts "Amen," trusting

without doubt that their prayers are answered in heaven, as Christ has promised:"Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you will received it, and it will be yours."

WE BELIEVE:● All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).● The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).● God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him

shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).● The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin (1 John 1:7).● It is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the

gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8, 9).● You may declare the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his wonderful

light (1 Peter 2:9).

COMMUNION CUSTOM At Pilgrim we practice “Close Communion.” Members, alongwith members of other WELS or ELS churches, are invited to publicly confess our unity togetheras we receive this sacrament. This practice does not reflect upon a person’s faith, or denyforgiveness. Forgiveness is a gift available to all through Jesus Christ in his Holy Scripture. Welook forward to discussing Biblical truths together and one day soon to share in this celebrationof unity together with you. We ask guests partaking in Communion to announce themselves tothe pastor prior to the service.

This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for manyfor the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:28
