Their achievement, 17 points ahead of the Runners-Up, is even more fitting as one of the great events in the Club’s 125th Anniversary Season celebrations. Their Cham- pionship win comes on the back of 2nd Division and 3rd Division titles in the last four years. The Champions Tro- phy was collected at the Airedale & Wharfedale League Dinner recently held at Headingley. HISTORICAL CIVIC SPEECH BY MR PRESIDENT A ndrew Smith, ably supported by Dennis O’Keefe made outstanding presentation speeches on the History of Illing- worth Cricket Club to members of the Calderdale Civic Trust and ICC membership. The event was a lead up to the launch of “125 Not Out” the Anniversary Booklet of the Club which will be out later in the year. Andrew delivered a gripping and detailed tracking of the history of cricket in Halifax and the emergence of Illing- worth CC as a Club, its facilities and members before handing over to Dennis O’Keefe who had gave a synopsis of his PhD on Cricket and the Church and is a feature of the Calderdale & Kirklees Cricket Heritage Project.. CHIP OFF THE OLD BOB

I CC Under 11s player, Lydia Hargreaves, made her full County debut in the York-

shireUnder 13s County Championship match against Lancashire at New Farnley CC. Lydia came away with a victory and 2 important undefeated runs in an 8 run victory contributing to the County Team’s Championship winning season. Lydia and her teammates proudly displayed the trophy around Headingley at

the final Mens County Championship match of the season. Earlier in the season, Lydia was wicketkeeper for the Wet Yorkshire Girls U11s side—well done Lydia.

JUNIORS JAM INTO THE PAVILLION FOR PRESENTATIONS A very well attended Junior Presentation Night brought the season to a fitting end

with a superb evening which celebrated team and individual successes. Junior Co-Ordinator and Team Manger explained the finer details of the season announcing team performances and individual prizes winners, President, Andrew Smith, presented all Under 11s with medals and the following individual prizes: Under13s Batting: Matthew Smith; Under 13s Bowling: Matthew Smith: Under 13s Fielding: Reece Mills; Under 15s Batting: Johnnie Lamb Under 15s Bowling: Matthew Smith Under 15s Fielding: Luke Keoeghan Under 17s Batting: Ste Cook U17s Bowling: Jack Collins U15s Fielding: Aaron Green The Maxwell Bright ‘Bright Star’ was awarded to Josh McAdam who had made ex-cellent progress this season culminating in a fin 16 not out for the 3rd XI against 1st Divi-sion Champions, Norden. Individual players had gained representative honours throughout the season and were recognised at the Halifax Junior Cricket League Presentation Evening: Lydia Har-greaves (Yorkshire Womens U11s and Under 13s); Matthew Smith and Josh McAdam (Under 13s Lords Taverners); Steven Cook (HX JCL Joe Lumb XI) and Alex Lees (Hx JCL, Yorkshire Schoolboys U17s and Yorkshire CCC Academy). Thanks to all Coaches, Team Managers, Scorers, Parents and other volunteers who made valued contributions at various times in the season. Congratulations to everyone—see you next season!

SENIOR SEASON SUMMARY Y oung opening batsmen Alex Lees and

Niall Lockley were among the top dozen batsmen in the Aire/Wharfe League's middle section in 2009. Lees finishing fifth with 730 runs at an average of 42.94 and a highest of 114 and Lockley was 11th with 691 runs at 36.37 and a top score of 159, a new club record. Both are under 20 and helped Illingworth to another good season. The firsts finished third in Division Two, the club's highest position for 14 years, and the seconds finished as Divi-sion One champions for the first time in Illingworth's 47 years in the league. In the Division One bowling, Illing-worth had three of the 11 qualifiers. Spin-ner Chris Goulden, in his first season, fin-ished fourth with 40 wickets at an aver-age of 14.48, Richard Dixon took 53 wick-ets at 17.19 and Luke Brooksby 41 at 17.59. In the second teams, Veryan Brooksby finished fifth in the batting with 762 runs at an average of 44.82 and Craig Fellows qualified with 464 runs at 24.42. In the bowling, Steve Smith took 36 wickets at 16.61 to finish sixth and Andy Ingham also qualified with 38 wickets at 18.45.

Senior Cricket League, Mr Howard Clayton has decided to relinquish his position as League Secretary, as his new commitment with The England and Wales Cricket Board has taken priority. Mr Clayton said, "I thoroughly enjoyed my role as league secretary, but my first love has always been scoring, and when the opportunity to came to score for the ECB I was delighted to oblige. I wish to convey my sincere thanks to the many friends I've made throughout the years, and would miss the warmth and friendly atmosphere". Mr Clayton's replacement will be Mr David Alred. At the Airedale & Wharfedale Senior Cricket League Umpires Association AGM, held at Otley RUFC on 1st October 2009. Mr Mike Hibbert (Umpires appointment secretary) pre-sented Mr Clayton with an inscribed Crystal Decanter, and a bottle of his favourite Red wine. All at Illingworth CC would like to express our sincere thanks for his work and wish him every success in his new role.

CAMERA, ACTION, DO IT AGAIN F or the second time this season, ICC Coaches have

been filmed in action by Sky Sports cameramen. A special camera crew made a special visit to Halifax to gather footage for the ECB CA National Con-ference. In the focus of the camera’s lens was ICC Coach, Luke Brooksby, as he coached cricket to a class of pupils before being interviewed along with other teachers about his cricket coaching work. Following being the YCB ’Young Coach of the Year 2008’, Luke is due to undertake a Coaching ses-sion with former England Coach, Peter Moores at Old Trafford as part of being shortlisted by the ECBCA for the ‘Sky Sports National Sky Sports Young Coach of the Year 2009’.

Sportsmen Dished a Fine Dinner Y et again, the Ladies Committee, led by Caroline Smith and Judith Verity served up a

superb three course meal to Club Members and Friends for the 2009 Sportsman’s Dinner which took place in September instead of the usual June date. A raffle and usual selection of sports items and memorabilia including the much sort after bottle of FC Valencia Champagne raised much needed money for the Club. Thanks to Master of Ceremonies, President Andrew Smith, Dennis Verity and David Lawton for the organisation of the event which concluded with a superb come-dian ????
