OASD—Oconomowoc Area School District
April 2016
Dear Parents,
We could not be more proud of our students during March’s reading month! As we said, “Read, Learn, Grow” is a lifelong mission we hope to instill in our students and boy, did they take off with it! In less than 4 weeks, the students at Ixonia read 106,000 minutes OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL (our original goal was only 18,000 minutes)! That is an in-credible accomplishment! Thank you parents for all your encourage-
ment. Classrooms with the high-est reading totals will be features on WISN’s School Shout-Outs sometime in April. Stay tuned for more information.
As we look forward to the last 9 weeks of school, we shift our fo-cus to celebrating and honoring the beautiful outdoors and our environment. Many activities are planned around weather safety, recycling and the trees and wild-
life that surround our school! Ixonia School was selected by the City of Oconomowoc Parks and Recreation Department to be the recipient of a new tree in honor of Arbor Day! That flowering tree will be featured in the front of our building near the school sign.
As you know we are moving toward the school referendum in Novem-ber, and Ixonia School renovations and addition are an important part. Therefore, Ixonia Elementary families are invited to attend an informa-tional meeting on Thursday, April 21st at 6:30 p.m. (Ixonia gym) about the district’s upcoming facilities survey with Dr. Roger Rindo, Superin-tendent of Schools. The survey is designed to gauge public support for the preliminary solutions proposed by the Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC). We will explain the survey process and have time for Q&A. More information is included in the flyer. We hope you are able to join us!

State Forward testing All students in grades 3-8 around the state are beginning the process of taking the Forward exam. From April 4th through April 15th, 3rd and 4th graders at Ix-onia School will be taking this exam. Specific schedules have been sent emailed to parents from classroom teachers.
Standardized tests offer Ixonia School staff information about student achieve-
ment as well as provide us feedback on our academic successes and opportuni-
ties to continue moving in a forward path. If you would like more information
about the Forward exam or any other district assessments, please contact Stacy
Yearling at 262-560-8401.

MARCH PBIS—READ, LEARN GROW!
Classes competed in March Minute
Madness… to see which group could
read the most! Our bracket winner

We also kept track of which three
classes read the most minutes overall.
Congratulations to Ms. Meschler, Mrs.
Theisen and Mrs. Burton’s classes!
All together, Ixonia students read
106, 167 minutes! WOW! The Oconomowoc Varsity Cheer-

We can all feel good about
that!

Birthdays!
At Ixonia, we love to celebrate
birthdays! On your child’s birth-
day—or half birthday—we an-
nounce their name on the loud
speaker and give them a little gift.
If you bring in a treat, please make
sure it is peanut/tree nut free.
Thank you!
Snack time!
A big thank you to the PTO
and all of the parents who
have been donating healthy
snacks to the Ixonia health
room and for before and after
testing! Your generosity is truly
appreciated!
A reminder: fresh fruits and
vegetables, popcorn and
crackers all make excellent
Notes for the office:
If your child will be leaving school before
3:40 it is important to let both their teacher
and the office know about your plans.
Informing both the classroom teacher and
Mrs. Hunter in the office will help make
sure your student is ready to go when you
need them. You can send two notes—one
for the teacher, one for the office or add
the office to your email [email protected].
VACATIONS!
If your child will miss
school due to a vacation,
you are asked to fill out a vacation
letter. You can find one on the OASD
website, under family access/forms
and documents. Complete the form
and return it to school one week be-
fore your child’s absence. Turning in
this document helps keep us all on
the same page in regard to missing as-
signments and attendance records.
