jury rendered a verdict of aggravated assault District Attorney E W Davis Ws assisted by Major L T Liar who owing to his enfeebled condition due to his recent illness could not do himself justice but made- a plain forceful presentation of the case H L Anderson defended and as lu usually does made a strong plea for his client Taking the attor- neys ¬ statement of the facts in the I case his clients case was purely one F of selfdefense and the wonder to him ps he didnt cut Caldwell half in two instead of the mere slash Snell gave Caldwell The attorney however in- stead ¬ of asking an acquittal for his client intimated it might be termed aggravated assault and that was the verdict returned by the jury The circuit court was busy this morning with an adultery case in which Eunice Edwards and groom wore the conventional suit of black and looked unusually handsome Master Victor Hull was dressed in cream serge and acted his parf beau- tifully ¬ The presents were numerous and handsome attesting the popularity of both parties After congratulations- and good wishes of friends they took- a carriage for Qcala t where they boarded the noon train for a trip thro Georgia After visiting relatives in Jackson- ville ¬ Fla the bride and groom will be at home at Martel January 1st where they will start immediately to housekeeping CHRISTMAS RED CROSS STAMPS- The i 1 Federated Clubs of America I have undertaken as their special work this year the Systematic tight for the prevention of the spread of tubercu- losis ¬ Petitions aro being circulated- to urge the passage of bills before the house and senate to this end and the various clubs of the Federation are working for a sane and speedy meth- od ¬ of solving the problem in their own states The Christmas Red Cross I stamp has been adopted as a means- of making the work general and giv- ing ¬ everyone a chance to contribute to so worthy a cause I quote from a letter from Mrs A G Cummer of the Womans Club of Jacksonville- You I are no doubt well acquainted- with the fact that the income from these stamps is to be used in jut en ¬ deavor to prevent the spread tu ¬ berculosis in out own state of Flor ¬ ida That we need to arouse our ¬ selves along this line of work goes without saying for it was shown at the Tuberculosis Congress held in Wahsington that there were only two states east of Mississippi having- no place where the Indigent tubercu ¬ losis patients might be cared for Florida was one of them With the end in view of providing some such sanitarium we have decided to en ¬ thuse the state if possible by the tu ¬ I berculosis January campaign which will open- in I Would it not be less dangerous for you and me and our fellow men if we would support some such place on well organized lines than to be daily brought in contact with the careless- on the streets of our cities- In Delaware last year the womens clubs of the state made this stamp sale a success and 3000 was realized Not one club refused to take and sell her quota of stamps and this is a question where even the vldows mite counts materially- As a suggestion of the easiest fastest and doubtless one of the most far reaching ways of selling the stamps I would say interest the mer ¬ chants of your town or city to use them on all of their mail pasting it on the back as a seal or immediately- at the left of the regular stamp Then we may all use them instead of the regulation holly sticker in wrapping- our Xmas parcels The Womans Civic League of Ocala is a meryber of the State Fed- eration ¬ and I have written for 5000 of the Xmas stamps
