surmounts the granite shaft and presents a most in ¬ spiring picture The monument faces southwest On the side to the south and east are these remarkable words The South rteveres her Washington Jefferson Madison Monroe Andrew Jackson and others who laid the foundation of our grand republic She honors her Lee Stonewall Jackson Stewart Johnson Forrest and every brave son who fought to preserve our liberties guaranteed by the fathers under the constitution Underneath- this inscription is the word Confed- eracy ¬ The southeast side is em ¬ blazoned with the Confederate flag the folds of which display the eleven stars Over the flags are the dates 1S611865 which are volumes of his- tory On the west end of the panel containing the flag are inscribed these words Its fame on brightest pages Penned by poets and by sages I Shall go sounding down the ages I On the northeast pannel are two flage crossed and over them the dates 1S611865 On the northwest side are sculptured two muskets crossed I The monoleith is crowned with a fine statue of a Confederate soldier with his musket resting on the ground and his hands clasping the muzzle of the gun It is needless here to speak of the devotion zeal and love shown by the Ocala Daughters in their labor of love to gather funds to erect this monument to the heroic loyalty of the sons who laid down their precious lives that the principles for physicians report today that I his condition is much more hopeful I LITTLE PHAROS LESTER BURNED Pharos the second son of Mr and Mrs P R Lester a little fellow of I four or five years of age was quite painfully burned yesterday afternoon I He crawled under the servants house I and set fireto a lot of i could not get out His cries attracted the attention of some one working on the place who crawled under the house pulled the little fellow out and smothered the fire He las very painfully burned on the legs arms but fortunately not about the face He is suffering considerable pain but no serious
