We’re already a decade and a half into the new millennium, and our industry is evolving more dramatically in 15 years than it has in the previous 150 years. That’s the good news. The better news is that the next 15 years will accelerate this evolution of our claims profession to a level that surpasses our current imagination; and the key to our ongoing success as a claims professional is to ride this trajectory to wherever it takes us. This meta-topic will be broken down into four bite-sized sub-categories that are designed to stimulate a candid, genuine dialogue between panelists, presenters, and attendees about what it means to be a truly competent claims professional in a world that’s still being reimagined, reinvented, and reengineered every moment of every day.

Dr. Bradley Probst of ARCCA is a long-standing favorite at OCAA Symposiums because of his entertaining wit, unparalleled intelligence, and shamelessly graphic illustrations of blood, gore, and mangled bodies…all intended to make you a more knowledgeable claims professional. This year’s presentation is so provocative that Brad won’t reveal the specifics in advance of the symposium, but he promises to provide useful information that you will take back to work with you.

10:30-11:30am Time Mastery: From Misery to Magnificence — Shawn Fair, CRDN Corporate Trainer

Shawn Fair, CRDN’s dynamic productivity guru, has agreed to repeat his award-winning presentation to OCAA (after a trial run at the PSAA Symposium in March; and Shawn promises to integrate the feedback he gets from the PSAA attendees to tailor his topic specifically for claims professionals. Remember, the key to success isn’t managing your time, it’s mastering your time. During this presentation, Shawn Fair is going to introduce you to some friends that he says are ruining your life (…and explain why every one of them is a male):

• Mr. LOK (Lack of Knowledge) is content with the status quo. He has no interested in improving, no interest in doing his job better, no learning new materials, all he cares about is maintaining his current status. But what he doesn’t understand is his life, business and relationships are constantly getting worse because the industry is constantly changing.

• Mr. LOA (Lack of Accountability) does what he wants to do, when he wants to do it, and how he wants to do it. He does not have a measuring stick that helps him to gauge his progress nor does he care.

• Mr. LOC (Lack of Commitment) never does what he says he will do. He has his own agenda and displays selfish like qualities.

• Mr. SMJ (Social Media Junkie) uses social media 5-7 hours a day, sure he is doing some work but being online totally consumes him, causing his days to be unproductive.

• Mr. P (Procrastinator) is constantly pushing work to the side. He never finishes anything causing major back log, poor work quality, missed deadlines and friction with this employees or employer.

• Mr. LOD (Lack of Dedication) does his work but doesn’t care how it’s done, he believes in being satisfactory. This causes him to revisit assignments, redo assignments which ultimately waste his time and everyone else's.

• Mr. PWE (Poor Work Ethic) starts his entire task list but rarely completes any of them without receiving assistance from other workers whose performance is effected due to his lack of drive.

• Mr. LOR (Lack of Responsibility) doesn’t care about anything or anybody. This person goes through life without a care in the world wasting valuable time with no purpose.

This year we are changing the format to be an all day general session with no breakout sessions. As always, topics are presented by knowledgeable and talented speakers. A plated lunch is provided and the overall agenda allows for ample time to network with industry vendors and other claim professionals.

— Claims Career Development Change happens. What we do for a living may not necessarily be who we are as a person, but one can affect the other… and vice versa. How do we control our career, navigate our future, and ensure our employability? What questions should we be asking?
