Deveau Repeats as Women’s Championin Cary Classic
Ralph Michaud of Presque Isle needed a one-holeplayoff to beat Randy Hebert of Murrells Inlet, S.C. for themen’s overall title in a rain-shortened edition of the CaryClassic Benefit Golf Tournament.
Betty Deveau of Caribou took the women’s title for thesecond year in a row, holding off a rallying Emily Jose, while Hunter Flynn of Presque Isle repeated as the juniorchampion.
Due to Sunday’s rain, the tourney was abbreviated to 27holes from the normal 36.
The tournament was a fund-raising event for the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center. While the rain dampened the course, it did not discourage thegolfers. We were so pleased with the support of our golfers. Not only did they not let the rain prevent them from playing some great golf, theystayed for the tournament awards dinner and were very supportive of the entire event. We also want to thank the Caribou Country Club, itsmembers and their staff for, once again, putting on a great tournament program. Katahdin Trust Company was lauded for being the majorsponsor of the tourney for the past three years. To be successful with a big event like this you need the financial support of a major sponsor. Ithas been a pleasure to work with Katahdin Trust and they have been a great and engaged partner. They along with our many supporters fromthe business community have really helped us to continue a very special golfing tradition here in the County.
Plans are already underway for the 2017 Cary Classic which will mark its 34th year. The dates are tentatively set for July 8th & 9th. For moreinformation on the tournament contact Mary Harrigan at 493-4849.

The Jefferson Cary Foundation, (JCF), is responsible for the administration of scholarships awardedto individuals involved in the study of nursing at Cary Medical Center. The Reuben and Annette CoteFamily Memorial Scholarship was established by their family many years ago to support ongoingnursing education at the hospital. The family was so impressed by the care that Annette receivedduring her hospitalization at Cary in the mid-1980’s, that they established a scholarship in memoryof family members, Reuben Joseph Cote, Annette Cyr Cote, Bertram Paul “Bert” Cote, Freda Cote“Sis” Classy and Alfred Philip “Hap” Cote. The scholarship is awarded annually to a Cary MedicalCenter nurse(s) furthering their education in the nursing field.
In 2015, two Cary Nurses, Lisa Lajoie, RN and Dayna Michaud, RN, each received scholarshipawards.
Lisa currently works on the Intensive Care Unit at Cary and is enrolled in the Community & FamilyNurse Practitioner Program atHusson University. Dayna works onCary’s Acute Care Unit, and iscurrently in the Bachelor of Sciencein Nursing program at the Universityof Maine at Fort Kent.
Presenting Lisa, (far left) and Dayna,(far right), with their scholarshipawards are Shanin Cote, (AlfredCote’s daughter), and Mary Harrigan,JCF Executive Director.
