Vernier Equipment

Anemometer The Vernier Anemometer is an impeller-type anemometer that measures wind speed in the range of 0.5 to 30 m/s (1 to 67 mph). The Anemometer fits in your palm for wind study measurements in the field. A standard camera mount on the back and an accessory rod allows you to position it in wind tunnels or in front of fans for wind turbine experiments.

Biology with Vernier

Biology with Vernier has 31 experiments in cell respiration, photosynthesis, membrane diffusion, osmosis, human physiology, transpiration, fermentation, and other important biology concepts. The complete table of contents is shown below. Experiments are included for 12 Vernier biology sensors. This book supports seven AP* Biology lab activities. Contains student and teacher pages which can be photocopied.

Carbon dioxide gas sensor

With this sensor, you can easily monitor changes in CO2 levels occurring in respiration of organisms ranging from peas to humans. A 250 mL respiration chamber with probe attachment is included for running controlled experiments with small plants and animals.

Conductivity probe The Conductivity Probe determines the ionic content of an aqueous solution by measuring its conductivity. This has many applications in chemistry, biology, and environmental science.

Differential voltage probe

The Differential Voltage Probe is designed for exploring the basic principles of electricity. Use this probe to measure voltages in low voltage AC and DC circuits.

Dual force sensor set

Use the Dual-Range Force Sensor in a wide variety of experiments including the study of friction, simple harmonic motion, impact in collisions, or centripetal force. Set of 12 sensors.

Dual range force sensor

Use the Dual-Range Force Sensor in a wide variety of experiments, including the study of friction, simple harmonic motion, impact in collisions, or centripetal force.

Energy sensor The Vernier Energy Sensor offers an easy way to quantify voltage, current, power, and energy output of small wind turbines and solar panels such as those used in our KidWind Experiment Kits.

Extra long temperature probe

This probe is designed for outdoor temperature sensing or for measuring temperature at various depths in lakes and streams. It has a 30 m (100 ft) cable.

Flow rate sensor The Flow Rate Sensor measures the velocity of water in studying the discharge, flow patterns, and sediment transport of a stream or river.

Force plate The Force Plate can measure the forces developed during stepping, jumping, and other human-scale actions. For example, you can perform the following kinds of experiments: observe the change in normal force during an elevator ride, measure the impulse delivered by the floor during a jump, measure the reaction force as a student leans against a wall.

Gas pressure sensor

The Gas Pressure Sensor can be used to monitor pressure changes in a gas. The range is wide enough to perform Boyle’s law yet it is sensitive enough to conduct vapor-pressure or pressure-temperature experiments. Biology teachers can use the Gas Pressure Sensor to monitor transpiration or respiration in an enclosed environment.

Investigating Chemistry through Inquiry

Investigating Chemistry through Inquiry lab book contains 25 inquiry-based chemistry investigations. The book is authored by two long-time chemistry teachers, Donald L. Volz and Ray Smola, who have enjoyed using the inquiry method in their own instruction. Each experiment includes a preliminary activity, teacher information, sample researchable questions, and sample data for those researchable questions. If you are new to inquiry-based instruction, the extensive teacher section will help guide you through the inquiry-based style of chemistry instruction. Contains student and teacher pages which can be photocopied

Lab quest charging station

Charges up to 4 LabQuest units.

Light sensor The Light Sensor approximates the human eye in spectral response. Use it for inverse square law experiments or for studying polarizers, reflectivity, or solar energy.

Motion detector The Motion Detector is used to collect position, velocity, and acceleration data of moving objects.

Optical do probe Use the Dissolved Oxygen Probe to determine the concentration of oxygen in aqueous solutions in the field or in the laboratory.

Oxygen gas sensor The O2 Gas Sensor can be used to monitor gaseous oxygen levels in a variety of biology and chemistry experiments. The sensor is intended for measuring gaseous, not aqueous, O2 concentration.

pH sensor This general-purpose pH sensor can be used across disciplines, including chemistry, biology, middle school science, and environmental science.

Photogate Photogates allow for extremely accurate timing of events within physics experiments, for studying free fall, air track collisions, pendulum periods, the speed of a rolling object, among other things.

Physical Science with Vernier

Contains 40 ready-to-use experiments for physical science (middle school through grade 10). The complete table of contents is shown below. Experiments are included for 9 Vernier physical science sensors in chemistry and physics. These experiments are perfect for introductory physical science and integrated science classes.

Physics with Vernier

Physics with Vernier has 35 experiments in mechanics, sound, light, electricity, and magnetism. This book has a wide variety of experiments for Motion Detectors, Force Sensors, Light Sensors, Magnetic Field Sensors, Microphones, Current & Voltage Probes, Photogates, Temperature Probes, and Accelerometers. Contains student and teacher pages which can be photocopied.

Relative humidity sensor

The Relative Humidity Sensor can be used for weather studies, monitoring greenhouses, or determining days when static electrical discharges could be a problem.

Renewable Energy with Vernier

Contains a combination of explorations, traditional experiments, inquiry investigations, engineering projects, and more. In these experiments, students learn about renewable energy, experiment with variables affecting power output from model wind turbines and solar panels, and participate in engineering projects such as building a wind farm or a solar charger to meet certain design criteria.

Salinity sensor The Salinity Sensor easily and precisely measures the total dissolved salt content in an aqueous solution. Measure water with a wide variety of salinities, from brackish water to ocean water, and even hyper-saline environments.

Soil moisture sensor

The soil moisture sensor is used to measure the volumetric water content of soil. This makes it ideal for performing experiments in courses such as soil science, agricultural science, environmental science, horticulture, botany, and biology.

SpectroVis Plus Spectrophotometer

Array spectrometer technology allows you to collect a full wavelength spectrum (absorbance, percent transmittance, or intensity) in less than one second. Once the peak wavelength is determined, you can easily determine the concentration of a solution (Beer’s law) or monitor rates of reaction. Includes cuvettes and rack.

Temperature probe The Stainless Steel Temperature Probe is a rugged, general-purpose temperature sensor that can be used in organic liquids, salt solutions, acids, and bases. Use it as you would use a thermometer for experiments in chemistry, physics, biology, Earth science, and environmental science.

Ti light probe The TI Light Probe is a budget light probe for measuring relative brightness. It senses both IR and visible light. The reading reported is a relative number between 0 and 1. Its low cost and ease of use make it an excellent choice for elementary and middle school.

Turbidity sensor Use the Turbidity Sensor to measure the turbidity of freshwater or seawater samples and determine water quality. Simple setup and calibration make it easy to use at the collection site or when you return to the classroom.

UVA sensor The UVA Sensor is an ultraviolet light sensor that responds primarily to UVA radiation (approximately 320 to 390 nm). This sensor is ideal for experiments using UV lamps.
